    My diverter was chattering when trying to push the button in, so I watched your video and replaced it. Works like a champion now. Thank you for including the part number of the diverter and size of the socket wrench! One thing I'll add, and it's probably common knowledge for this diverter, but there's no need to shut the water supply off for this repair. Thanks again!

    Nice! You have my shower. Cant believe im looking this up, i do this for a living. Made the job faster knowing what i was getting into. Not sure if you cleaned that silicone mess up on that tile and face plate, but some advise if you wanna get a nice clean line. Scrape it off the tile with a straight razor blade angled into the silicone. Mask around your cover leaving a couple mm of chrome. Do the same around the wall leaving a peak of tile. Caulk or silicone around it, rub your finger around it until its smooth and chunks are left on the tape. Pull the tape off while still wet, maybe needing the razor to lift the tape. You’ll have clean professional caulking lines, no build up. Sorry if i’m just blowing smoke in the wind. 😊

    For those still wondering...you do NOT have to turn the water supply off to switch out a diverter. I repeat...DO NOT.
    and be sure to get the deep socket 7/8 you'll need it

    Freddie, very good detail. I too respect this You Tube community and appreciate all of the DIY support that's out here. One thing I will suggest it to add is once it's disassembled, we should clean the threads with a small wire brush. Upon re-assembling, I used waterproof grease as it was suggested by another person with years of plumbing experience. Also as you so accurately stated, turn the new diverter into the threads by hand and make sure you don't cross thread the system. Great work brother!

      You should tell folks whether or not that plastic tab comes off before reinstalling the diverter stem. I'm not sure in the video wasn't clear whether or not that plastic tabs stayed on the end....

    Your video was most helpful. We had a broken Delta shower diverter, and followed your instructions, which were complete. We ordered the replacement part from Home Depot, (part #: RP5649-3), and took everything apart as instructed. We then replaced the device, and as mentioned in the video, I used tweezers to pull out the broken piece. Now our shower works perfectly. Thank you again.

    really appreciated the specifics in this video! My night started with just replacing my tub spout but as I started working my diverter button in and out the damned thing busted on me and came right out of the assembly! water shot to the other side of the wall out of the diverter button hole until I got it shut off. =) good times good times. ;) For anyone who is reading, it looks like there is an aftermarket knockoff part (Danco 80971) that is supposed to be a direct replacement. I'd encourage you to read through some Amazon reviews first, but as of this writing the Delta part is $17.56 ($10 cheaper than Walmart online) and the Danco is $8.07. Cheers!

    • @fauxque5057
      @fauxque5057 Před rokem

      Old question, I know. But others may come along. The answer is no. To replace that diverter you do not have to turn off the water.
      For the record. There's also a plug that you can purchase that does away with that style diverter and you can use the more typical diverter on the tub spout. It's a little pricey at about $16. and you have to swap out the tub spout.

  • @ronreed7841
    @ronreed7841 Před rokem

    I know it is assumed but you MUST turn off the water feeding the shower (whole house) before you get started. Looks so easy. Thanks

    • @fauxque5057
      @fauxque5057 Před rokem

      That's bad information. This is just the shower diverter valve. There is no water pressure unless you turn the knob on. Depending on the age of your whole house valve, and style, you might create another problem turning off the whole house valve. If you have to turn off the water, and you have an old valve that hasn't been used in years, it's safer to shut the water off at the meter than the side of the house. My water heater started leaking. I shut the standard twist spigot off, replaced the water heater but when I went to turn the water back on the handle turned but the gate valve would not open. So I ended up cutting out the old valve and sweated in a new 1/4 turn gate valve. Nobody ever does it but your valves should be exercised occasionally to keep them free. Especially all of the sink and toilet shut offs. If you haven't excersised them don't start now because they will fail. I replace the shut off valves everytime I work on a fixture because mine are all original from 1986 and fail if I try to use them.
      There's a special tool called an olive puller to remove the ferrell on the compression style fittings. Invaluable if you ever need to replace one
