Corsair Carbide Air 540 Case Unboxing & Overview

- The Corsair Carbide Air 540 is focused on cooling and performance, but it actually ended up looking great too. In spite of the plastic bezel design, this is one of the best looking cases I think Corsair's ever made.

I sold my house and went to live inside my 540. Family loves it.
best comment I've seen on this video. very informative +1
same
Ive had this case for almost a decade now. I love it so much. Easily my favorite case of all time.
this guy gets it.
LOOL dude this thing so friggin future proof i knew 10 years ago when i bought this thing i would be saving money for my next builds cus theres no reason to change it lol so much space for anything, great cable management etc etc great friggin case
@@shinobu2394 The only downside is the filmsey SSD cage at the back. The small clips that hold the SSD cage breaks easily. 😔
Same. just bought another one for my new build.
duh i wish i could find it
Just bought one in 2019. Six years ago Linus 😃.
Lol, I just bought mine yesterday.. had no idea it came out that long ago!
just got mine, can’t wait to turn it into a monster.
I'm buying this case as we speak
I just took a peek now ..6 yrs ago...waaaa
Been running this case for many many years :D I think you all will be very happy with it, and yes this video back then made me want this like no tomorrow haha. I just happened to come across it again just now lol. Just an FYI this is a great case for custom paint and or mods ;)
Ive had this case over 8+ years and it has stuck with me through multiple upgrades. It looks the same as the day I took it out of the box and I probably will never upgrade from this case because even though there are really nice newer cases that have come out nothing can match this cases airflow. Best case I have ever owned.
I'm with you brother, 8 years with this case and I'm about to upgrade to a ryzen 7000 series, best case ever
Yep. I have a Corsair 750D, that I replaced in my main rig with the Air 540. I've had this case for 3 PC builds, starting with the 4790k, moving to a 9900K and recently to a 12900K. Its a great case and it totally curb-stomped the 750D.
"Here why don't I grab a motherboard..." *Grabs random $300 motherboard thats just lying around*
I've had this case for 4 months now, and I love it. Yes, it does have a large footprint, but as Linus points out, everything is very easy and simple to access. I love that all of the stuff I don't want to see goes in the back. When I look in the window, all I see are the cool components like the mobo and the gpu and the water cooling system, no messy cables or drive cages. I am content with my purchase.
Ye i owned it for 5 years as you have now (guessing :), i never wanna swap until they make the exact same case again but with 3x140 support in the front.
That 4770k ad made me look and see how old this video was lol
And 2 years later from you, 5 years later for the video, this case is still relevant. :)
ye
@@C.Church And one year later. from your comment, 3 years later from mustang rider and 6 years later from posting.....(I bought the case in 2014)...just pulled my Devils Canyon I5 4690k out of it....looked at the case...shruggged my shoulders. 30 minutes later.... Built an X570 Aurous Pro wifi, with a 3800x and a 5700XT. Double NVMEs, a SATA SSD and 7200HDD....right back in the darn thing and done. For fun i threw in 5 Corsair LL40 RGB fans and their new commander light strips. It all went in like a glove. I might even use this same case 3 or 4 years from now when it is time to do it again.
Same. My processor, 2013 build, threw me for a loop to think my tech was still up to date for a second.
This comment made me see how old it was.
It's built for me? that sealed the deal.
I've had this case since 2017 and have never had an issue. Love this case.
I bought one of these... Years later still superb, ultra neat, ultra adaptable, never had any issue fitting anything in there including hard lining.
Top 5 reviews from LTT right here. Miss this style but appreciate the more profession stuff they have been doing.
I just brought this for about $120 and I cannot wait to start my first build in it.
I have built 5 PC'S in this case because I love it so damn much. 10/10 recommend.
Me too, I've had it for 5 years and will be building my third system in it next month. It's totally perfect.
Same bro I’m about to build all my PCs in this case
It's 2022 now and almost nine years in the future after this video was made. Bought mine when these first came out and I am still using it. Original fans are still going strong and everything stays chill. The case is extremely quiet compared to other cases I have used and this one has minimal dust if any at all. I've cleaned it twice. I am sure there are better cases, but this is the best I've ever owned.
9 years later, I love this case. I wish they still made it. Super easy to install things, so much room. Its awesome.
Received mine a month or so ago. So, so, so happy with this case. Easiest install I've ever had, and it looks great.
I bought the case because this review. Today i still using this case. Thank you for the review.
Linus should totally do another water cooling build guide and use this case
That's the nicest ATX cube case I've ever seen. I'll use this in a future build.
I've been looking at this case for a couple of months now and after watching/reading countless reviews I finally decided to order one!
I have this case from my first PC build, and it works great. Don't have a graphics card though but with the H105 it works great.
Just bought this case. It's awesome!!
today i asambled my sistem in this case and is perfect i love this case!!
there is a reason in 2017 you are an important tech guy my friend, as always a simple but informative review. thanks.
I got this case a week ago and I love it , cable management is the easiest thing ever and it looks awesome.
You guys filming with a candle? Where's the light?
I was thinking the same thing. Linus needed to do the unboxing in the kitchen where there is way more light.
In Vancouver they have natural light laws which won't let you turn a light on until after 3pm
Jerkamie Seriously? I didn't know that O.o
Brigmophyson yeah, if the authorities catch you using artificial light before 3pm they can fine you.
The fines only $15 so no big deal.
good old linus
If you see this comment well done to you both
Classic
I really like this case, especially the two compartments. Also I'm a big fan of Corsair cases. They always have a professional look to them. This will be the case in my next build. Thanks for sharing this unboxing with us.
Coming from an owner of an air 540 silver, I love this case whole heartedly. It is so easy to use and get into and honestly I love it. I can't see myself using a different case any time soon.
The Dapper Llama 2 years later.. have you still got the same case? 🤨
It says built for builders not brewers... lol

It says built for builders not brewers... lol
+go Go Are you sure about that price? Or am i just too late?
I love this case, I've had it for almost two years now, it's a fucking beast. Had to rewatch this video cause,
Really nice case Linus, I love how cases are making it easier to hide non modular power supplies. Neat
So I was looking back through old LTT videos and came across this one again. This was actually the first video I found from LTT, I checked out a few other videos at the time, then subscribed (on my primary account, this is my work one). I've seen almost every video they've ever done since and I can't believe I've been here since roughly 2013.
The more i see this case, the more i want it. If they were selling for $100 id pick one up.
Same here, I was looking at the H440 coming out soon, but I like the little extra space in this case for some reason. It would be perfect if it has some red accents on it, but that's a fun DIY project. I may take the leap...
ImSooSwazy So was I, but the H440 seems to never to come out and this case is in my country so it's way more accessible for me.
I managed to pull one from Fry's for 80 bucks after a rebate. Amazing case.
You can get it from Newegg right now for 110.00 bucks with a promocode
Goof deal I love it
I love the look of this case. I could see this being a replacement case if I ever need one for my main tower. for me I like this case because you could set it on its side and give it a small footprint and have it hide under, in, or on top of something. It wouldn't be hard to put feet on the side either, just make your own.
I feel like this video was filmed yesterday, wow so many years have passed. Linus is a man now.
I just bought one of these today in 2022 after helping a friend upgrade his while loving every aspect of working on it. He sent me the link and I bought it. So nice. He went from air to bigger air then to AIO. Also 12th gen intel i-7, DDR5, and a RTX3080, it's pretty sweet. I got his old Asus Z-170 board with everything besides storage, including a 1080TI! I can't wait, I've been without a gaming PC for like 15 years and am so stoked to have a GPU (which I couldn't afford any other way in these dark times)
To be honest, I have never seen a video on this channel where Linus unboxed something with foam packing that he liked. Its always the closed cell hard stuff.
The Corsair fraphite 760T, but I see ur point here XD
0:44 I hope he knows it says "Built for Builders" not "Built for Brewers" XD
I've had this case for, what, 7 years now? Amazing. If you have the space, a fantastic case. I couldn't imagine using another.
I built in thos case .. called ot my OP build ryzen7 64g ram 2TB storage drive 1tb game ssd 500gb ssd os drive .. then put in a 1660 (will wait for the next gen gpu)
The look and the layout of this case are what makes this so awesome. The prodigy is awesome in it's own right and I did come very close to buying one.
I just chose my next case😃
I'm a brewers fan and I have helped a friend brew beer. I should probably get this case...
Saw this review , fell in love with the cute little cube . Sold my Coolermaster cosmos ultra II , so glad I did .
I think like many people here, I too have found the case for me for my first build. But I will be upgrading the fans to more quiet ones (with a bank of 3 120mm fans in the front). I can't wait to get started on it.
I decided this is my next case I will be ordering in the next week. Despite the name will be custom loop watercooling it though :)
Funny i just got mine haha
TheAussiePotato I also just bought one, like 5 mins ago lol
It's a shame that the 212 evo 120mm fan won't fit into the 240 smaller brother to this, damn, i might have to waste space on this one.
***** does corsair hydro h100i fit? :o
Simon Glans yes
What I really want to see is a Corsair Carbide Water 540
I love the layout of the case.
Getting one for my second build.
Finally ordered a Corsair Carbide Air 540 in 2021. This case has some serious staying power.
i just ordered this in white
6:28 "thumb squirrels"
This is gonna be my next case, gonna be here tomorrow so pumped!
I've been using this case for almost a decade as well now and it's super easy to work in when making upgrades, tons of space for cable management, and great airflow for keeping everything cool inside. I replaced all the fans with Noctua versions of the same sizes and got a tad bit quieter experience from it but I only replaced the fans due to 2 of the included fans having crapped out on me after about 7 years of pretty much 24/7 runtime in my home in Florida with ambient air temps and humidity always staying pretty high. It is fairly large but I have no regrets buying this case, certainly got my money worth out of it, and have no need or desire to replace it anytime in the foreseeable future and I'm sure I'll get another decade of use out of it. Can not recommend this case enough especially with the amount of heat newer GPU's are pumping out these days.
I bought it
***** Depends on the fans you use, and the parts you put in, the stock fans are quiet but can get loud at full loads.
so do you like this case ? how is the cooling and does the default case fans are noisy ?
The case is amazing and has great temps. The fans only get noisy when you push it too far with overclocking and heat out puts. Otherwise its an amazing case. The stock fans are audible but not super loud.
nawaz2kx naa its my test bench at the moment so cant
***** Yes it will as log as your motherboard can support sli. It supports 4 way sli 780ti's so i bet you can put 4 way 980's too
CUBE CUBE CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBE
Yes son. It is a cube :3
I love the new setup, with the Mod Mat on the desk and so on, looks great!
Just got this case yesterday. Already loving it.
can this run minecraft?
Michael Andreas ik your joking but i had to say it IT IS AN EMPTY FUCKING CASE
All that space and only 4 2.5 inch hard drive bays. That is just poor designing.
I have a bluray drive for ripping backups of dvds and blurays.
***** Fan controllers anyone?
The lack of internal hard drive storage is the biggest problem with this giant case. You should be able to put like 9 hard drives in that monster.
clint stathis who uses 9 hd's? Most pc enthusiasts would be happy to settle with 1 2.5 4tb drive and a 256gb sdd
It is a shitty design for a case. You can't argue with that. Sol Dios some people keep hard drives once they are full, they don't just throw the full drive away. Nobody said anything about 5.25 inch bays. The people commenting on this seem to be retarded.
I've had this case for two years now and I do not regret buying this. I've got the white version and the hardware has been upgraded like 3 times already lol.
still rocking this case and its still great after 4 years of having it
For now, this is the case I will choose when building my new rig in September.
Thanks for the video !
Still using mine in 2020, I've been using it for the last 5 years ... best case ever made. It just works flawlessly.
My next builds will be in this case as well because it's just perfect.
No wonder they're all out of stock
I'm actually building a 5800x3d into this case right now... I had put it away years ago and I'm bringing it back! The front 5.25 panels are so underrated. I'm sticking a usb-c panel and a blu-ray in there. So sad that cases usually don't have those anymore.
I've been thinking about getting this case to replace my crappy Arctic, and your review just sold me on it. Thanks!
Not sure if you have purchased the case yet, but I'd love to hear what you think of it.
Not yet, but if I remember I'll let you know.
TheLastTank
I bought this case today and built a rig. The airflow on this thing is amazing. My GTX 980 sits at an idle temp of 23C with the front 2 intake fans at 70% RPM (dead silent).
Just like how LinusTechTips has said, bigger GPU's like my EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 sits inches from the fan.
Here's a picture so you get a better idea.

Tae Kim Wow, you have convinced me sir. Absolutely beautiful build by the way, love the GPU choice, and what color is that? Looks like it's black from the picture, but I'm not sure. Thanks for sharing the cooling capabilities with me, and how is the noise if you don't mind?
Tae Kim Jesus, you've convinced me. I am getting a 980 along with this case and 26c idle is amazing!
I love the Carbide 540 Air; It separates everything and is neat, cooling is perfect and quiet too.
This is an awesome looking case. Honestly I'm totally convinced to buy it. I never want my Gpu's length to be an issue and this looks like it solves it so the rest of the features are excellent bonuses by comparison xD.
Always loved this case! Getting one second hand tomorrow
Very unique case. VERY good space for liquid cooling and not to much space so you can use air. The rubber grommets are ALWAYS a good idea and FINALLY the companies listened to us about hiding the power supply and having a FULL not HALF window on the side. Thumbs up corsair!
Very professional, just what i needed. Detailed and pon spot!
I actually just purchased one of these. I originally got the Corsair 780T and that case is huge, so I wanted a case with a smaller footprint. So waiting on it but excited to Get the Air 540.
Bought this case last year...It's big, but super easy to build in and cable management is excellent! Buying another to use when I upgrade my wife's computer for her birthday...
Had this case since 2015. Love it still. Yes, it is big and it is a little battered and bruised now through the years. I may use it as a coffee table to keep it going once I upgrade my PC!
Had this case since Dec 2014. It's a huge cube box designed case.
i like the case i love the idea of having your main parts away from your power and drives gives a cleaner look and better airflow not to mention that you end up having less visible cable as it does not have to go form the front to the back to the front again, all and all i love this case, and my desk as massive so i could easily fit this on my desk and have no space issues it could also sit under my desk, i also like that you can see all of your parts a nice big clean window.
Still rocking this case. Great for easy (and I do mean easy) building and airflow, not so great on noise, or dust prevention.
I also, have never been able to remove the 2.5 drive cage, mine seems stuck in.
I'm changing the case this year and this Chonky Boi Carbide has served me well.
i bought one of these and its a big beautiful case. great cable management. personally its worth the size
I've had this case for a little over a month now. It's freakin awesome
Thanks for this video. I actually like the way corsair have designed this case. Ultimate cooling is what you need when overclocking.
Thanks for the review/unboxing. Corsair once again looks like they have delivered an amazing product. I tend to like more minimalist/understated cases that provide great function. I currently have a Fractal R4 but the Air 540 looks amazing.
ordered this the other day.. can't wait for the delivery now :3
Thanks for the review, I'm considering buying one in nice shape used to go with my standard ATX X99 board and it looks like a nice choice to get those 140W off the cpu and out of the case.
I love my Air 540, so much room inside & it runs a lot cooler than the Dell I had, which I put in the 540 case
I want this case, looks gorgeous with plenty of room. I prefer a shorter case with a wider base, because if you set your system on a table or something a wider base and shorter height mean it is a lot safer from accidentally getting tipped over or someone bumping it off your desk.
love this case and keeps things so much cooler than my old 600D
Upgraded my 600T to this today and... I'm in love *-*
Mmmm I love this case. I'm going to be picking up my white model this week when my order for it arrives at my local store. :) Nice to see it in more detail before I get my hands on it.
Linus gives some of the best unboxing/reviews out there on CZcams. He really has helped in the decision I make when I buy hardware for my PC :P
Bought this case in 2016 with a 970, then upgraded to the 1070, now I finally upgraded to the 3080-Ti.
There will be no more upgrading past the 3080-Ti as it barely fits in this case. The cooling to the card though... is PHENOMENAL. I have 3 120mm fans mounted on the front blowing cool air right over the top and bottom of the 3080-Ti. With the top 2 fans positioned so the further back fan is outtake and the closer to the front is intake, it sets up a perfect flow of hot air that is pulled right over the GPU and CPU and straight out of the case.
good review I like the cube it seems to have more room to work in but I just got the White Carbide case I can't wait to see it now.
I plan on getting this case for my first because in the long run I can benefit from the direct cooling and huge space for future upgrades and its a cube not what you always see on builds
have had the 900D for about a month or so and I came to a conclusion that its big. I think this case is great.
Still have this case. Probably putting my next system in it, its that good. The wider footprint doesn't bother me, as its set back under my desk, and the reduced height works for my situation and cable runs.
i really like you reviews, I actually enjoy watching them :)
I was shocked that there are only 2 slots for 3.5 HDD :((
Great review. I've just convinced myself I need one.
10 years on, I'm still rockin this case.
Short and concise, brilliant.
Really love this case, I am defiantly going to look into getting one,
Yes post it there, Really good forum and Linus and slick and are also lots of helpful people read it! Plus people can type out suggestions longer than 500 characters so it's easier.
Good day.
Great case. It seems to be a cable management wet dream come true. Love it.
I re watched this to know what to expect with the air 240, i am really excited now, this in a 100$ matx size will be amazing
