So happy I saw this tutorial. All of your videos are amazingly good.
By far my favorite channel for woodworking! Thank you Dennis, love your work and your shop. Definitely inspiring. Keep the videos coming they're awesome. Best to you.
Thankyou Dennis for your approach to your hobby. I appreciate your attention to detail and your desire to not only make something practical but also something that looks good and is affordable. Your unique solutions to workbench drawers, dust collection and the inbuilt router table are inspiring.
Dennis, you never fail to provide awesome content. I love your approach to your builds. I am hopeful to see how you built the bench that maintains your laser engraver. Keep going. If I ever strike it rich I would fly you here to help me setup a new workshop. You are the best!
Fantastic work, Dennis! Thanks a bunch for the build and all the tips! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you Dennis. Beautiful project and one most of us can actually do. Well done mate. Cheers, Brian
Zoals altijd ben je een zeer relaxed en gemotiveerd persoon. De manier hoe jij uitleg geeft en je zaken op orde hebt... Echt een master
Fantastic workshop. I like the design with the black MDF very much.
Thank you for this! Being a beginner, I always find inspiration here in the US from your shop designs. Even if I’m starting with something even smaller and more basic, I really like being able to see what’s possible sooner rather than later. Woodworking is a hobby for me to create for myself and close family and friends and be a little self reliant. And as a hobby I like the idea of being able to have a creative space that’s functional and more importantly-a joy to spend time in. Your designs check those boxes for me.
As my means allow I’ll be buying your plans soon enough and look forward to more ideas and inspiration to come.
Wow, what a nice workbench. I may get your plans for it soon :) Thanks for sharing!
Love the little boy caméo
Most definitely a fantastic affordable workbench build. I like it. Thank you for sharing your awesome workbench with router build with us. Love the magnetic hole covers and the drawers system. Everyone stay safe, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
I think that your workbench is amazing. It makes my old Black and Decker Workmate look like something from antiquity. So pleased to have found your site. Great videos, made to inspire other woodworkers.👍
Fantastisch Dennis. Ik ben aan het oriënteren op mijn nieuwe werkruimte en je ideeen en videos zijn een grote inspiratiebron. Thnx
Draw design is amazing!
great stuff and truly inspiring
Beautiful build Dennis 👌😎
Now that is one cool bench!
A joy to watch your videos.
Always inspiring and I admire your imagination to keep coming up with great ideas and sharing your knowledge.
Well done.

I only just stumbled across you video this afternoon. I really like this bench design and I may use it as I've just moved and I have a modest basement to set up a woodworking area. I'm well into the whole track saw thing but I'm starting over with more modest priced tools.
You have a wonderful large workshop and mouth watering collection of tools.
If I had a workshop like yours Dennis , I’d get nothing done, I’d be too busy admiring it- not wanting to make a mess.. great vid..!!👍💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
And now I'm hooked on "Hooked on Wood" channel. Thank you so much for this video!
I watched the previous videos describing the drawer system and workbench multiple times trying to figure out how to build it. I've just purchased the plans so now instead of analyzing, I can start building. thanks Dennis!
Awesome video! Great to see the improve,ents- I will be making this one.
I like this bench alot , it's about time I made one .
This is wonderful I need a bench like this awesome Dennis xo
Well done - thank you for the inspiration 😉
Looks great Dennis
good looking bench Denis. Nice and easy to build too.
A fabulous looking bench!

This is why I love your channel. Everything to the best, even if it can not be seen! Chapeau my internet woodworking friend, Chapeau!
Great workbench! I like it.
That is a fantastic bench Dennis
I really like this bench. I love the dog holes in the top. And especially those magnet pieces that you can use. I think I would use my router more if it was in my workbench. My router table is too small of a work surface. Thanks for sharing this!
Hi Denis, I’ve followed your channel for quite a while now, and love your work, explanations and projects. It would be a great addition to include a table saw into the workbench.
Thanks Dennis!
Simplesmente perfeito, muito capricho e trabalho pesado supera qualquer coisa, realmente me inspira muito o seu trabalho, eu amo muito marcenaria, e você tá de parabéns pelo lindo trabalho, 🙏
I love this bench
Very nice build
And another great vid. Thanks
Awesome. Great bench. I’ve got a small shop. I’ve been looking for a bench that is multifunctional. 1) MFT dog hole system, 2) European style vises for planing and hand tools, 3) use as an out feed table for my table saw, and 4) router table. So far, I like your design the most. It’s nice looking and efficient. I think I can Tweak it to make it work for me. I’ll be buying those plans for sure. Keep them coming. I’ll buy the plans for your drill press table when they become available as well. I also really like your miter saw station, but I don’t have a Kapex and probably won’t get one. I like the Makita better. Keep it up Dennis, I love your channel. Now if I could get that colored MDF here in the USA for a decent price, I’d be accenting every thing with blue MDF. Have a great week!🎉
Netjes!👍,motiverende filmpjes 🙏
Wonderful to hear that we can buy your plans. I definitely will purchase them. By the way your son looks just like you. I had a good laugh. Thank you, Denise.
Yep, he does 😊
Cheers Dennis.
Great job.
I only needed half the intro (and the fact that you're wearing blåkläder) to subscribe 😁 Now I'm excited to binge watch your videos!
Its just an awesome workbench. 😊
So inspirational! Glad i re-found you again! Would you mind sharing the details of the fixed feat adjusters please?
Good evening Dennis.
Prachtig werk.
Het mooie bij jou vind ik altijd dat het ook mooi mag zijn, functioneel is natuurlijk het belangrijkste maar met mooie spullen werken is ook genieten.
I like your design method with the plywood beams. I built an outfeed table with an MDF top and 90 degree side wall because of your previous videos. In the US I had to use regular MDF and shellack finish. I probably won't do MDF again. It isn't very durable. Maybe the black that you use is better. As for the frame, years ago I built an assembly table ago with construction lumber. I laminated after jointing and planing in the same method. I actually like it better because of the weight and it has stayed pretty stable and I really like it. Yours is a great build and probably easier for beginners and you don't need a jointer or planer. Another great video.
Yeah valchromat is denser than regular MDF and definitely tougher.
jaloers op deze werkplaats
Perfect, ❤
Love the workbench. It is going to be perfect in my workspace. Wondering if there was a reason you didn't add a vice to the bench?
That's great. It's completely unsuitable for my garage, but the construction principles are excellent and I'll adapt them for my use.
Quick question: I've just had a look at the Banggood website at hose inspired castors, but can't see the clips as a separate item - were you able to buy the clips for other bits of kit?
Many thanks for this (and all your previous) video(s).
Awesome and simple build Dennis, those magnetic benchdog plugs was awesome as well! What would you say is the preferred height for a workbench like this? It would of course depend on your length but in general for someone in the mid euro-height e.g. 178-180 cm.
Woohoo! We've been waiting a year for this video to drop! Finally! 😛
BTW - Could we use a Shaper Origin to make the dog holes?
I love the look and functionality (but would be afraid to mark the top😂). My current bench is classic thick top with holdfasts, planing stop, and leg vice. I wonder if I could adjust to your assembly style top? Would love to try your design with the built in router, maybe in my next shop.
The algorithm brought me to your channel. Glad it did! I have to keep the bench mobile, do you have a recommendation on wheel type for best results? Thanks. Awesome bench and awesome shop by the way.
What a great workbench. Do you have any idea how heavy it is? I wander if a mft style workbench is heavy enough to also use a handplane for example.
What's the size of the bench if I would build it according your plan? (I'm not sure if it fits my small workshop.
Looking great! Ik ga de plannen bestellen! Hoog tijd voor een nieuwe werkbank hier. Thx!
thanks! enjoy
One concern I have with MDF worktop is that over time the forces from hold downs and other clamping tools that cause a significant load on the sidewalls of the dog holes, will cause the holes to wear and the precision and accuracy will suffer.
I have a thought that I haven't tried yet, but which might be worth exploring. After drilling the dog holes to 20mm go back with a 25mm forstner bit (probably with a drill guide that can be clamped in place to keep the bit centered) and make the holes larger. A jig with a 20mm dowel and a 25mm disk centered on the dowel and screwed or brad nailed to the dowel would allow a circle to be drawn on the worktop to make sure the 25mm hole is centered on the original 20mm.
Then tape off the bottoms of the holes and then fill them with epoxy. After the epoxy has set, drill the dog holes to 20mm using the setup jig as if it was the first time drilling the dog holes. The result will be an epoxy lining of 2mm - 2.5mm thick. I would think that would give a much more durable surface.
Or maybe it is just good enough to tape off the bottom of the dog holes and then slather thick epoxy on the walls so that the fibers of the MDF soak up as much epoxy as they can hold. Then use the setup jig again to redrill the holes to clean off any epoxy that didn't soak into the MDF or any swelling of the MDF.
Do you think that this might be worth doing, or does the MDF hold up just fine and I am just overthinking this?
How do you organize your screws and what kind of wood screws are you using. What sizes do you always have in shop.?
Very cool Dennis, as it always is!👴🏻🇦🇺
I don’t even have the tools to build the bench, but I am a piano technician who needs organization, good workbenches, and woodworking capabilities.
I’ll just buy the bundle and see how it goes!
Hi Dennis, as you will hopefully remember, I have built three Workbenches now to your designs in my small workshop.
Every time I walk into my workshop I can't believe that I built them because of how good they look and that is all down to your expert advice and guidance.
I now try to keep my workshop as tidy as I can so it is easily usable when I want to use it.
I have yet to build drawers under my workbenches and this has been delayed mainly because of the difficulty in obtaining Birch Throughout plywood so will have to use some less quality plywood just so I can get things finnished.
Not sure if you have the same difficulty in obtaining Birch Throughout Plywood in the Netherlands but it has made things very difficult for a lot of projects.
Hopefully the world will get back to normal soon for everyone's sake.
Keep up the great work. 👏👏👏👏👏
I thought you would say you have difficulties because you are on holiday every week (I believe) 😀. But Yeah, it becomes problematic, also in the Netherlands and the prices are becoming insane!.
@HookedonWood 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Yes, we have just got back this evening from holiday No. 5 this year.
We are just trying to decide if we can fit another one in during September before we pack the Caravan away for the winter.
Who knows, if I could convince my wife to do it, we might travel north with the Caravan into the Netherlands one day, but probably too old for that now 😁
Clean. Multi functional. Effective and efficient. What else can you ask for?
You forgot lovely...
Your videos always make me jealous that we can't easily get valchromat in Canada.
You may try applying a gel stain to regular MDF. Besides adding color, it also provides a good water barrier and protectant. I’ve used a black gel stain and it looks very good.
Fantastic build Dennis! I bought a set of plans for my own shop, and I'll adapt it for my own space. Any idea what the weight limit might be for the top?
Dennis, great video! I have been enjoying your workbench design now for three years. Not exactly the same, have have the black MDF and a sheet of plywood laminated together without bench dog holes, but might consider a modification since you showed the hole plugs that are magnetic. I feel compelled to buy the plans just to support all your awesome videos, ideas, and clear reviews.
May I ask, where did you find the Black MDF?
In the Netherlands it is widely available.
@@allent555 i purchased mine in Seattle from a place Crosscut Hardwood
How does the black MDF hold up to use? Glue cleanup? Do you finish the surface? Excellent design. Thank you.
the plans look fab and the video is great.
In your cutting list it mentions 2500 1250 boards not 2440 1240.
can you get oversize in holland?
I love the channel and the bench design but I have one question. Is it possible to add an end vise like the Rockler quick release 12" end vise or the Rockler heavy duty quick release front vise? If yes, do you have a video or guidance on how to do it?
Dennis, what's name of black color material?
Do you accept American currency and if so, could you tell me what would the price for your workbench plans would be? I love design and the simplicty of the construction of this piece!
Great ideas and build process video.” HOWEVER, I don’t think you can build this with Baltic Birch Plywood for a “few hundred”. I just picked up a 5’ x 5’ sheet of 3/4” for a different project and it was $90. And it’s not made by Festool. 😅
Do you have a summary of what the costs are for the setup you have shown us in the video?
Very clean build, well done!
I will going to calculate that. come back to you later:-)
Another great video Dennis. Do you feel the BenchDog brand is comparable to the UJK Parf Dog brand?
Short Answer: Yes. I have different accessories for one of my upcoming video about these products. I have them from BenchDogs and also from UJK. The differences are small, but big enough to prefer one over the other. Sometimes I prefer BenchDogs, sometime UJK. But I like the wide assortment of BenchDogs!
Thank you Dennis for the quick response. Looking forward to that upcoming video. @@HookedonWood
As soon as I get my garage finished, I am going to buy these plans for sure! ... And the dust extraction plans, and the drill press table, the miter station... LOL😂.
Hey Denis. Great work as always. Good to see the little foreman is making sure you’re doing the right work.
I’ve two questions when you’ve time.
1) I see you’ve the FELDER scissor table, with a table built on it. Will you be doing a video on that?
2) Do you ever think you’ll get the Shaper.
Thanks. 👍
The little foreman, wants to continue the channel :-) so I still have a long way to go.
I will do a build video about that, but the problem is, I need to build it again, this one has some flaws that I can not live with. So, when I build that one, I will record it, and place it online.
Yes, sometimes I do think of a shaper, but for most of the work, I think a template with my laser works easier. Maybe I will change that view in the future.
@@HookedonWood Good stuff - keep up the good work. You're the only original woodworker on youtube.
The double thickness of the top seems important, especially when integrating a router table. But what is the best hold-downs to use when standard L-shaped MFT-type hold-downs won't fit in a 36 mm deep hole?
Dennis, Wonderful bench. I was surprised to see you have added a second layer to the top. Doesn't that eliminate to use of the Festool style "L" clamps that need clearance to get the elbow through the holes? Do you modify the bottom on each hole or just don't use those style of attachments?
Yes, you can not use them anymore. But there are enough alternatives available for affordable prices. I choose double layers for the top to create more mass and make it more of a full range workbench. Better micro vibration control and when you have to work with your planers, just more mass to make it stable.
will this table work well if I am in United States. would it be hard to get the auk tool router, incra clean sweep, and other products mentioned in this video? Would this workbench work with a dewalt router, for instance, or other manufacturers? Thanks
Dennis what finish do you put on your black MDF bench and counter tops?
What are you doing to get the grey finish on the draw fronts?
10:23 ok that made me lol
I love the work bench and watch every new video that you make, but have a question. You used a wood bottom as the slides for your drawers rather than steel drawer slides for cost. I imagine that you probably use a paste wax or similar so that the wood surfaces slide easily against each other. My question is, approximately how much weight can the drawer contain before the friction of wood against wood becomes an issue.
I am hoping you see my question and can orovide some kind of guess on the weight as this will help me determine if I will be able to purchase/use your plans without some sort of modification.
Hi Roger,
I do not know how much weight, but I have a drawer where I place my screws stock and that is pretty heavy. Of course you can get this open but you feel there is more friction. Because it is stock, I do not use that regularly so it is not a problem. You also have to take into account that the bottom is 9mm MDF and will have a limit in weight also. When the bottom holds it, sliding is not problem. But when you use it for heavy tools, stock or whatever, I would opt for steel sliders. This is not a better alternative than steel sliders, but it makes the proces so much easier en the costs so much lower. I rather have these sliders and buy a INCRA Fence for the money I saved.
BTW - Could we use a Shaper Origin to make the dog holes and 10mm grooves?
I Think so, but I do not have experience with that. I think I prefer the router though.
Hello Dennis, great workbench, i think i will build the workbench. In one Video the black MDF looked like polished. Can you tell, how you did this?
Merry Christmas!
I use rubio pute monocoat. That is gives a nice matte finish finish. Sometimes I do the edges two times with some sanding inbetween.
Thank you
Gaaf Dennis.
Do you use the same basic dimensions (height from the workbench top to the floor, depth between the standing area to the wall) for all your other workbenches?
Hi Dennis
I have found your videos very interesting and educational and have been following you for some years now. I have found a lot of interest in the type of dyed through black mdf you are using. Is this "Valchromat". If not, can you tell me the name of this product? Is it made in Holland? Valchromat is very expensive in Norway (one sheet 18x2440x1220 costs approx. 300 British pounds.
It is a brand less product. Just black MDF. A sheet is around €100
We’re do you buy your black mdf? Thank you!
Looks nice….
I watch the video on making the grooves for the draw guiding. I’m just a dyi woodworker and I don’t have a dado stack. I will typically line the two ends of the cabinets together side by side and router the groove on both ends at the same time. But for some reason, when I go put them together, and assemble the cabinet the grooves on each end are off. They are off by about an inch. They pretty much don’t lineup and I’m not sure why. Any ideas?
Only thing I can think of is that the two sides are not perfectly square. Lay them on top of each other at different directions. When they fit 100% every time your methode should work. Or, what you use as a guide is not square?
@@HookedonWood I appreciate the reply. I should be building out another cabinet in the next couple weeks when I do I’ll get some pictures and show you how I’m setting it up. And maybe you may be able to point something out that I’m doing wrong. Thx again…
What is the black bench top material called?
Can someone tell me how many sheets of plywood are used in the plans. I’d like to price it out.
Hi! Interested in buying the plans for this - what are the dimensions of the top? (I did try to find out but can't seem to find that information anywhere)
The dimensions are 180x80cm but I think it is easy to adapt to the measurement you need
Hi Dennis, just bought your plans for this wonderful workbench.
May I ask you a few questions, which turned up by watching your video?
- Do you think it is worth it to buy a nailer for this work, or do you see another simple solution?
- Which pocket hole jig would you recommend?
Thank you very much for your advice and help!
Greetings from Switzerland! daniel
Hi Daniel,
I find the Nailer a very nice tool, but you can do perfectly without it. Just be careful with clamping. I would clamp first with not too much pressure, after 2 minutes increase the pressure. I like the Enjoywood that I get from Banggood very much. It is still a bit affordable, but you get a lot for the money. Good Luck!
@@HookedonWood Many thanks, Dennis, that is very helpful to start this project!
Does someone knows the nailer used at 12:30?
Regards, Jan
Is this top some sort of black plastic or is it black MDF?
