Some of the spotters are really on it, thank God! I swear it's gotta be a real skill in itself - just the spotting. From that angle, predicting when/where they're gonna come off is damn hard. In some of these clips there aren't really many around though, or they're a bit slow off the mark, which is when they're damn scary!
There has got to be a safer way to build these trampolines, with more padding around so they don't have to just fall on people if they go out. But way to go to the spotters, they do one heck of a job trying to protect the athletes!!
Dude no offense but your comment is a very valid comment but its just the mats that they throw in actually do stop injury and do reduce speed XD I should know since i am a competitive trampolinist my self. And if u surround the trampoline with mats that still leaves the problem that the metal skirt that surrounds the trampoline can still cause injury one of the main reasons the man with the mat is there is to put added protection between the metal and the trampolinist. So mats probs wont help.

I do agree with you but I think it would be the cost. I train at a leisure centre and we have to set up before each session. Most competition halls are used for a variety of things, not just trampoline or gymnastics. I think it would be too expensive to sort of... make the hall have a singular use like that? But I agree, it would be safer.

i dont get why it isn't mandated to have each catcher carrying a mat so they don't need to use their own bodies to catch a falling trampolinist. much safer for everyone.
Why don't they just surround the trampolines with thick soft matts?? I think it would be much more reliable than the humans. I think the people surrounding the trampoline are scared when the people come flying at them, it's their instinct to kind of move away and keep themselves safer.

How can it not be a sport? It's competitive, and it requires reflexes and physical condition. You should know you waste the energy of 10 abs on a single backflip.

because he has to absorb all the energy in his legs. if he doesnt, he'll bounce again, and fly off to the left, landing off the mat. you gotta glue yourself without leaving the mat. but kinda dramatic after he fell back, yeah pretty funny.

The spotters can not prevent them from hitting the floor if they go off line. They are trying to prevent injuries or at least minimize the damage received. There is a huge difference between hitting head first or flat on your back compared to your feet or butt. If you think it is possible to catch one of these people, have a friend jump off a 2 story roof and catch them. Or better yet, have them just toss off a 130 pound bag of sand and see if you can keep it from hitting the ground hard enough to burst open.
I think all my fears of tramponlining were realised in that video tumbling is much safer >< I know it would be a major pain in the butt for some places, but think how much safer it would be if they could sink the tramps into the ground, at least for places that hold nationals.
