The EMD GT 46 MAC is a diesel-electric locomotive with AC transmission manufactured by General Motors Electro-Motive Diesel Company for Indian Railways in 1997-1998 and is classified as WDG 4 by Indian Railways. As an order, EMD manufactured thirteen engines, eight of which were exported in pieces and assembled in India. This locomotive entered the Indian Railways in 1999.
After several engines delivered to India in 1997-1998, DLW has taken steps to manufacture this type of engine in India from 2002-2019. The wheel configuration is Co-Co type and this engine is 69 feet 9 inches long and 13 feet 6 inches high. Fuel capacity is 6100 liters.
The engine of this locomotive has an axle power of 24 tons and the total weight of the engine is 139 tons. The prime mover is 16-710G3B. .. The maximum speed mentioned here is 121kmph ..
WDG4 has 4000 horsepower and one drive chamber. This subcategory WDG 4D has 4500 horsepower and it has two drive chambers. This category of engines is specially designed for freight trains. This type of engine is capable of running up to 40 cargo compartments (60-65 feet long compartments) at an average speed of 90 km / h at a time. It is a great achievement for them to manufacture locomotives entirely in India.
The M11 locomotive in Sri Lanka is also included in this category, as it is a 12-cylinder V12 with only reduced power and weight, as India is not authorized to change anything else. It is a combination of the two WDG 4D and WDP 4D categories (WDP 4D is a passenger transport engine similar to WDG 4D, with a top speed of 180kmph and a top speed of 200kmph. Small description correction. Wdg 4 launched in 1999-4500hp, wdg4d launched in 2013-4500hp but double cabin ,like m11 in Sri Lanka. Wdp4 launched in 2001-4000hp and 4 traction Motors. Wdp4b launched in 2010 -4500hp, wdp4d also launched in 2010 ,4500hp but double cabin and white colour. Top speed of wdg4,wdg4d is 100kmph only for goods. Wdp4 top speed is 180kmph, operating speed is 160kmph only 18 coaches. Wdp4b, wdp4d top speed is 130kmph with 25 coaches.
My favourite diesel locomotive of Sri Lanka is EMD M11.

This is freight loco of india with top speed of 100kmph.
Most of these locos are not used for freight transportation in Sri Lanka unlike India. These locos are now transporting passengers from Colombo to Kankasanthurai(In Jaffna), over a 400km long journey at a speed between 80 to 100km/h.
Bro in description, wdg4 also has 4500hp except few initial models in 1999.

The original WDG4D is a diesel electric with a 16 cylinder 4,500 hp engine loco dedicated to hauling cargo (understood by the 3rd code letter "G" in the series ID code) in India.
However, when these locos were imported to Sri Lanka, and re-designated as the SLR M11 series, they were toned down to a 2,000 hp capacity, with twin cabs @ both ends to provide for swifter changes.
