- The Choir of St John's, New Alresford sing 'Dear Lord and Father of Mankind' under the leadership of their then director, Richard McVeigh.
The organ is also played by Richard McVeigh, through the medium of magic :)
1 Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
forgive our foolish ways;
reclothe us in our rightful mind,
in purer lives thy service find,
in deeper reverence, praise.
2 In simple trust like theirs who heard
beside the Syrian sea
the gracious calling of the Lord,
let us, like them, without a word
rise up and follow thee.
3 O Sabbath rest by Galilee,
O calm of hills above,
where Jesus knelt to share with thee
the silence of eternity,
interpreted by love!
4 Drop thy still dews of quietness,
till all our strivings cease;
take from our souls the strain and stress,
and let our ordered lives confess
the beauty of thy peace.
5 Breathe through the heats of our desire
thy coolness and thy balm;
let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm!

As a Muslim person, I love Christian chants a lot and we still brothers in humanity ☪️✝️
Hear hear, well said. Greetings to you from Christian sister! 🙏
@@JaneDoe-ci3gj Thank you so much 🌹
I wish more people felt like this!
God bless you, brother. Yes that's what brotherhood is about.
@@ebestephen Of course ❤❤
My Favoritehymn.
Beautiful, thank you Richard, Caroline, et al, rather belatedly, though
So lovely
Absolutely gorgeous. Woke up to this at 5:00 a.m. in Arizona. What a great way to start the day. Thank you!
Having watched this and Virtual Church today, I need to polish up my act.
Thank you choir👍 excellent performance 🙏🏼
Thank you. Many years ago, this hymn was my balm in troubled wakeful nights, the result of work stress. Verse 4, in particular.
What a beautiful way to start the day! I had to listen to it again after completing my morning chores. The voices are so nicely backed up by the way you "word painted" with the organ's registrations, just like you discussed recently. Thank you for this!
I've just left BiS Virtual church and have abstinence.😉
Jokes aside. Wonderfully played and sung! Also great to see and hear Caroline singing!🌷
So nice to wake up and hear this. Thanks R&C!
Thanks so much Richard. What a fantastic way to start the day. Bless you!
Simply beautiful. Excellent singing (and therefore conducting of course).
Thanks!
I can't tell you how much I needed to hear this today - thank you guys!
Nice to find this in my recommended videos on a Sunday morning. Thank you.
Just stunningly beautiful - the voice of calm indeed. Thank you :)
キリスト教徒ではありませんが、清らかな歌声で、ホッと落ち着きます。
Allelujah...Amen.🙏🙏❤️❤️
Oh Richard! How do you do it? Once again my new day has been sanctified by the beauty of a wonderful hymn and this one goes straight to heart a soul. Thank you. One request: can your SW1 choir record (copyright issues permitting) the SATB full hymn-anthem version arranged for choir and organ by H A Chambers (published by Novello). Verse 2 is divine, the last verse as we at BiS would expect! Me? I simply LOVE this arrangement - I’m sure you and all our BiS VC community will too.
Richard, beautiful! Can you please tell what hymn tune that is.
The tune is "REPTON"!
💓💓🙏🙏🙏
