Never seen so many guys ignoring their dates/wives/girlfriends like they did on that night, never saw so many women ignoring theirs either. I first saw the Pretenders on the late night tv show ‘Fridays’ back in 1981. They played 3 songs from the Pretenders II album. I thought they sounded great. Their look was like something out of the 1960s England. Chrissie’s vocals continue to be amazing not to mention those bangs! I’ve been hooked from that moment on.

Tells you everything about the old boys club of rock in the us back then that this monster had to emigrate to the uk to get noticed. Heart... Susie Quatro and the Runaways... lots of valiant efforts and great work by now-unknowns... but basically bands fronted by women who actually rocked hard didn't take off until the 90s and even then it was a struggle for the women doing it. Hats off to Hynde for bringing it and breaking through like she did.
