2023 Bid For Education

Initiated by Senator Daniel K. Inouye in 2000 and funded through the generous support of JANM donors, the Japanese American National Museum’s Bid for Education grant program enables over 12,000 students and teachers to experience JANM’s educational offerings annually. Teachers like Patrick Inouye of Orange Glen High School are able to bring their students to learn about the Japanese American experience, finding connections that bring history to life.
Contributions fund transportation, museum admissions, and facilitated experiences for Title I schools, and underwrite resources for K-12 educator workshops and resource materials for classrooms. Enhanced in 2020 with virtual visits and professional development, the program now reaches a national audience.
Because of the generosity of donors, in 2023, JANM was able to increase its capacity back to pre-pandemic levels. We appreciate the ongoing generosity of our donors, who play a crucial role in sharing the lessons of the Japanese American experience nationwide.
