Stockholm (where I live) is a city built on water (hence the name, which is derived from stock= log and holme= islet) and we have boats the cruise the waters in the city as an alternative to buses and subways. They offer this service from late spring to autumn. Rest of the year is cold and icy .
It's a good way to travel and gets you away from the hustle and bustle of the streets. Thank you so much for watching x
I’m a first generation Australian. My dad was from Glasgow. The street that I grew up on was called Clutha place.I also worked for a coal mining company here in New South Wales named Clutha Limited.Cheers from Wollongong,New South Wales,Australia..
It's definitely a reference to these boats. Thank you for watching.
Another really interesting video. Can you imagine how busy the Clyde used to be?
@@AScottishOdyssey it must've been a fantastic sight. Thank you so much for watching Claire x
@@scotlandshistory It certainly would have been one hell of a sight. The noise would surly have been something else.
Fascinating video, I wonder if any of those Cluthas still exist today?
I don't think so, but wouldn't it be great if there was one lurking somewhere? Thank you so much for watching.
A very through job,you must have fun making/researching these episodes. Do you use your own voice?
Yes it is. And thank you.
@@scotlandshistory very professional 💛
@ScotlandsGold thanks. I enjoy doing them, just like you with your videos, and I'm passionate about our history.
@@scotlandshistory it struck me yesterday how very important that is, these tales of daily life from over 100 years ago would be lost and forgotten 💛
@@ScotlandsGold they would.
Am I right in saying Clutha translates from Scottish Gaelic to English as Sound?
I believe so. Thank you for watching.
I thought it was Latin for River Clyde.
@@davidjohnston7512 lol
It could be but more likely to come from a native language. I was led to believe it was sound as in a river derived from Gaelic but that could be wrong. Thank you so much for watching.
