Clip from the rewatch of Episode 12: Leech ft. JOHN SCHNEIDER:
Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are joined by Jonathan Kent himself, John Schneider! John joins the guys as they recap Episode #12: Leech. Welling talks about what it was like to play a ‘power-less’ Clark and his confusion of there being two different Ashmores who appeared in Smallville. Rosenbaum remembers uncomfortable Lionel scenes and this final episode with Kelly Brook. Schneider was a treat. John fondly remembers his time on the show that paved the way for superhero shows, while remembering going to bat for Tom with WB, teaching him lessons on and off set, and never getting lost in what the lead character was doing.

I dunno, I feel like Lois and Clark ( 90s ) did a really good job in this regard, especially since it had several seasons so people were clearly enjoying it.
I liked Smallville, but half the show was entirely goofs and situations that you would think a person would have not repeated for the 100th time. Most of the character interactions were not genuine at all, and it felt more like a live action Scooby Doo where Clark just kinda dumbly stumbles into something and it manages to work out in the end. Made it really hard to watch it a second time around.
I think the moments on the Kent farm overshadowed a ton of the rest of the show, as they felt like two entirely different series; and that probably accounts for a lot of people's nostalgia / good memories of the show. One "normal" side of it was heavily holding up the "bizarre" side of it; which gives viewers something new to look forward to each episode ... but doesn't really build up the show in the long run. What does is the cliche "moral of the story" event at the end where they all come together to reflect on what happened. It's the same trope in just about every sitcom, especially ones revolving around family. The goofs just get you to that moment. I don't see many other superhero series fall into that situation of trying to pull viewers back after a 30 min - 1 hour stint in wonderland.

What a great actor John Schneider is. The family dinamics between Jonathan and Clark and Jonathan and Martha was one of the greatest aspects of SMALLVILLE. John gave so much gravitas to Jonathan Kent, so much humanity and played him with so much honesty. Thank you, Mr. Schneider for being a true role model for us.

You guys need to realize what the show means for many.
    I'm 48 and my mom is 68.
I watched the show 20+ years ago when it aired and recently me and mom watched it together binging it.
She loves it and watched each episode with the same awe we all did.
Tom is her all time favorite human being (damn you Tom) and she just loves Michael as lex.
What you guys did to your characters left a deep impression on people. Even a 68 year old woman. You made her life a little bit more fun and she was just as much a teen watching the show ad most of us were back then.

i'm glad you got to do that with your mom, here is my story i bought the bluray box set in Jan. of last year and i finished it in i'd say oh Mid March i think. back when the show was Originally on i watched the entire 1st season and than right around Pete found out well maybe a couple episodes later after He finds out Clark isn't from Earth i lost track of what was going on cause another show i liked was on at the same time or i just missed a week or to and said fuck it and gave up.
so as the years went on i saw season 1 many times but i never got around to finish Season 2 until i bought the box set & i had always wanted to go and watch the entire series. i also have season 1-3 on dvd as well i plan on getting rid of those as a matter of fact.
anyways, when i got back into the show yes i ramble my apologies, i had tried to get my mom to watch it for a couple of years, she got as far as maybe episode 5 i think? before she got distracted well when i got the set she went back to i think the first episode and she started watching it with my dad he i think lost interest after a few episodes and gave up.
she continued and ended up loving it. in fact i finished watching it before her i gave her the dvd's to watch and i watched the bluray. i finished it while she was starting season 8 & i'm 44 she just turned 70. i dunno what her favorite season is though i don't think she ever gave it much though.

I had the privilege of meeting John Schneider at a Dukes Of Hazard fest in Nashville. He was so down to earth. There was a long line waiting to meet him, longer than the line of any other actor from Dukes of Hazard. At one point, he walked through the line (not around it) to go to the restroom. On his way back after using the restroom, he saw a disabled kid (probably early teens) in a wheelchair.
He stopped, gave her a hug, talked with her for a solid 2 or 3 minutes, got a picture with her then kissed her on the cheek. It really was touching. He didn’t have to do that, and it warmed my heart to see it and to see how excited that girl was afterward.
When I met him, I told him that i appreciates him doing that, and he said there would be something wrong if he didn’t take time for people, especially people who have disadvantages. I gained much more respect for him. I also told him that I cried like a baby when his character died on Smallville (which wasn’t a lie). Lol. I seriously broke down, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Hahahaha.

That's awesome. I got to meet him as well, in 2014. He signed a "Smallville" 8x10 for me, we chatted briefly, and then I asked him for an audio interview. The next words out of his mouth were, "Who are you with?", and I had to explain I was just doing it for my CZcams channel. He graciously agreed, and the interview wound up being about 12 minutes long. He spoke about his early career, "Dukes of Hazzard, his early involvement with "Smallville", and a movie he was working on at the time, called "Smothered". You can still find the clip on my channel - I haven't erased it.

It’s funny especially in the beginning 5 seasons, you really get the sense that they’re running a farm. So much to the point you follow Clark’s anxiety when he is thinking of going to college, how difficult the decision would be to leave his parents to do it alone. It just added to the believability of the show. This for me is what makes Superman an interesting character. The small things. The relatable things.

John Schneider was 100 percent correct. Smallville was responsible for all the superhero resurgence. Especially the multiverse combining a group of heroes. To this day, I love Smallville and go back and do rewatch it. I only wish Johnathan Kent's character had lived a few more seasons. At least season 7 or 8. It definitely changed the dynamic of the show and a huge hole was left by John Schneider being gone. But I loved how they found ways to bring him back and pay tribute to his character. Because I feel like much like Rosenbaum was the best Lex Luthor ever, on the opposite side of the coin John Schneider was the best Johnathan Kent ever.

John was in the Mother Goose Parade the weekend before Thanksgiving, here in El Cajon 10 or so years ago, he was in a General Lee, the parade route was different that year and there was some glitch, it stopped for two hours, at the time they had no idea how long it would be, he was right at the corner of Main and Magnolia, got out of the car, took pictures with folks, was so sweet, my kids loved meeting him. It was 80° and not pleasant, but he was great. Knowing he would be here I borrowed Dukes of Hazzard from the library so my kids could see what he did before Smallville, he was pleased to learn that, too.

I'm just now discovering these podcasts, I never really loved Smallville It wasn't bad, but my best friend and my dad both liked it and I used to watch it with them sometimes. I did like a few episodes especially with Alicia, and on the whole I really liked it, I just wasn't too into superheroes back in the day, I'm 35 now and I really cherish what Smallville was about and the fact that it ran for so long. There was a time after it ended where I really tried to be like Clark and felt relativable to him, he was just well the whole show was just so wholesome. Even at the time it was more wholesome than a lot of shows so it had to be a little corny sometimes, but it just has so much staying power because of that.

This show definitely captured the spirit of how superhero shows should've been today the only show that I feel can really capture what Smallville did was Superman & Lois. I was 22 when this show first started and one of my favorite bonding memories with my parents was sitting down and watching episode Zero when it first broadcasted on tv. It's the one episode I will always remember vividly from the show because of the quality time I had with my family. That's why if I am blessed to one day have a wife with kids of my own someday Smallville will be a show that will be a family event in the household. Smallville was an important series in my 20s and it's something that has the values I would want my future children to experience and bond over as they grow up. That's why the early seasons of Smallville are my favorite the Kent Family scenes were the foundation of what some superhero shows in our time are lacking and Jonathan was my favorite tv dad. He was the kind of man I looked to and said to myself "that's the characteristics I want to have if I get to be a father someday".

Amazing that SUPERMAN the movie came out in 78. 44 years later here we are in 2022/2 ×22=44, we passed 42 from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy fame.

There are three fathers in television that have greatly affected me, and created a basis for my fatherhood. Alan Matthews (Boy Meets World), Tim "the Toolman" Taylor (Home Improvement) and Jonathan Kent. Many people say that I'm doing quite well as a dad, and my kids love me. Thank you.

This is something I’ve been patiently waiting for ever since the shows’ finale. The reunion of the central cast of Smallville. Jonathan, Tom and Michael together created an Authentic depiction of our beloved DC characters, and for the first time truly brought the essence of the characters to life. The reality of dealing with life was never overlooked; instead each of these men(and women of the show) were able to bring to us a genuine relatability and vulnerability that not only made us identify with them, but feel as though we’re were actually a part of the story
a story that I don’t think can ever be achieved with such brilliance again.

Three of the only good and decent people left in film anymore.
You three should have multi-million dollar offers rather than some of the schmucks that hate their own fanbase.

I have always thought with Doom Patrol and Titans, we've never been introduced to Lex or Superman, what if Tom and Michael were to join the cast in like a couple of episodes, if it does well, spin off

Them appearing in any DC show would be amazing. like toms short appearance on crisis on infinite earths, that was amazing to see him play his character one last time

    • @drewphillips9219
      @drewphillips9219 Pƙed rokem

@@shamzam3012 I just think it would be awesome to see them in one of those shows, no network restrictions, no villain of the week kinda stuff, can have a much darker tone, can swear if they want, we can see just how evil Lex can be, continue the story years after Smallville, see where these two are in this new world of heroes and villains
