- In this video I will show you a Sonos system that will blow your mind. Adding in front surrounds to the Arc sub and rear surround system enables the Arc Trutune software to fill-in with a simulated middle channel. Sound rockets through the room seamlessly from far rear to far front. Voices are even clearer coming from the center. It’s really something you must experience to believe. If you’d like my videos please subscribe it really helps my channel. I answer every comment. I I would really appreciate if if you would hit that like button. Hope you enjoy this video.

Thanks, Bob, for the very instructive video!...Will investigate placing in-ceiling speakers for my purchased Sonos Arc and Sub Gen 3 in my small (8' x 10') living room!
Thanks!
Great video. It takes it to a whole other level. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
Omg that’s exactly what I wanted to do. I kept seeing people saying “no you can’t do left and right in-ceiling speakers. I thought I was going to have to do wireless left right and rear surrounds and use my 4 ceiling speakers as overhead speakers. I don’t really want to have speakers on shelves or in the wall. Glad it worked out. I will try and do this system too. Thank you!
Thank you! The die hards will point out it’s not a true 7.1 system. But it sounds great so whatever! Lol. Thanks for the comment
@@bobbygfl I’m so glad you made this vid. . I’m thinking of doing exact same thing or 2 fronts as surrounds and two rear as rears. And use denon or marantz to power them. Is that counterintuitive to not use Sonos amps. I don’t want to have 2-3 different amps. Please let me know what you think. Thank you

Thank you!
Can someone explain how to do this set up
This is exactly what I was looking for! We’ll sort of… not the built in part but adding right and left fronts! Thank you.
Thank you!
Awesome video, thanks for doing this! I am building a pavilion in my backyard and will be setting up a home theater with all Sonos products. Will definitely pre-wire speakers for the front just in case. Question, I have a set of speakers on my patio that are connected to a Sonos Amp. From certain spots on the patio you will be able to see the TV. If I wanted to play the TV audio on these patio speakers (I may want to do this if we have a large gathering for a sports game), will there be a delay in the sound on the patio speakers?
No zero delay. I can play the tv through my house amp and it you can hear everything just fine. Thanks for the compliment!
Thank you!!! Only showed that possible use Sonos arc and Sonos amp together! Thank you!!!

Beautiful house ‘ when I am coming over for a drink ? 😂
Thank you.
Thanks for video I'm consider a 5.1 version use arc for LCR speakers and sonos sub and ceiling speakers for rears. Has a y one used this configuration and howwell it works. Adding separate in ceiling front speakers is not in budget
You don’t need them. It’s not actually creating another channel it is just enhancing the front channel. The system will sound amazing without it in fact if I forget to turn them up it still sounds amazing.
Thank you
Thanks for the comment!
Very cool set up. I hope I am asking the right questions here as I am not well versed in this area.
The Rears are on 1 amp somehow with the ARC and the fronts are 1 amp?
Would there be any difference in using in wall speakers that you can think of if they were place low enough?
Yes the Sonos system works entirely via Wi-Fi. Either the speaker or the amp must have Wi-Fi access. As long as you used a Sonos amp to run the in wall speakers the system should work. I do believe the Sonos speakers are optimized to work with the Sonos amp. The amps are tiny compared to other manufactures of the same power. Anyway hope that helps. The app just looks for the amplifier either within the speaker such as the one or standalone amp like this example

Great setup! Can you advise what brand/model of your ceiling fan?

Have you created a video on the detailed step by steps to set this up? I’m wanting to create a similar system, but hesitate until I see the nuts and bolts on how it gets set up. I use an sonos amp with floorstanding speakers currently and really need to add a center (arc). I want to make sure it we’ll work! Thanks!
It’s very simple. Just make a group with your connected (arc sub and rears)+the front system. Whether it’s two one’s or a an amp with two speakers. I need to do is to be able to control the volume on these two sets at the same time. I set the arc system slightly higher than the front. I’ll play around with it and if I can make a video I will
Use groups like different rooms (you should have 3 different room minimum)! And then when you watch movie or listen music, when you already have voice, go to sonos app, you will see playing any voice, and at this moment activate group!!! Always, when you turn on music or watch movie, go go Sonos app, and manually activate group playing. I can send you screenshot to your mail.

I have a Bose SoundTouch 300 with surrounds and 2 subwoofers would the Sonos arc be a better sounding system? Just bought a new 75 inch Samsung with e arc
My dad had the Bose system. He switched to the arc after hearing mine. I’d say it better in every way. Hope that helps.
I have a play 5 in my garage man cave. In living room I have a sub, sound bar and two play 3s.
Also have two play ones in kitchen. I also have the sonos move and the roam and move thoese randomly. My question is for my living room set up for movies, sports and regular TV and also music is it better to pair up two play ones or two play 3s with sub and sound bar? Or should I place the two play ones in living room two with rest of speakers??
One more question, when watching movies can I pair up the sonos move and roam with existing living room set up or no??
I don’t know about pairing up the roam you could definitely pair up the move. As far as the set up I would say two one’s and the sound bar would be your best bet.
@@bobbygfl I wonder if I could use the roam or move as am external speaker for my mam cave garage TV?
I have two sonos ceiling speakers as rears connected to an amp and and a sonos arch, I have them grouped as sonos surround sound. They work great when playing music off the app or airplay but when I turn on the TV it only plays off the Arch. I have tried to connect the Amp and arch with a Cat 6 Ethernet cable but still cant get sound to work with the ceiling speakers when playing anything off TV. Any ideas?
Yes, call Sonos. It’s the way they are grouped in the app. There is a group that is for playing music and then there is a different type of group that is made for surround sound. In my app, I have a little note under the group that says Dolby 5.1. No other group has that. I believe that’s what causes the amp in this group to know what to do. Hope that helps.
Have all but the front left and right. I’m going to do that and also add a second bass. Using 5s for rear. Sounds great already. The two new fronts and extra bass is really going to piss the neighbors off.
Nice! Lol. I just realized I can increase the rear volume. Game changer. Sims’s even mor amazing.
How does it sound without the fronts. I am thinking the arc will do a good enough job without adding 2 front in walls.
@@matthewshaffer8439 The arc alone with subs and a rear is plenty. That sounds great in fact most of the time we forget to turn them on. When there’s a really good movie with a lot of action I will crank them up and it just enhances the front sound. The main reason why we did this is because there was already holes in the ceiling.
Question, i am looking to do a similar set up but use in wall speakers instead. Where I’m confused is why did you need to use 2 amps when 1 Sonos amp can support 6 Sonos architecture speakers?
It’s because they need to be a separate channel. Our house amp runs speakers throughout the house like your saying but on its own amp or channel.

Really nice video !!! Can you please tell me - can i use a pair of sonos one SL as front R/L Seakers & pair of sonos one SL as Rear R/L Speakers along with arc and sonos woofer ?
Definitely yes for the rears and sub. The fronts will not pair up like this set up because this set is using a single amp for the fronts. You can still do it but it’ll be two linked speakers vs one amp

Is this a dolby atmos set up? I have the same issue with space and open concept living room. Im trying to have speakers in the living room but don’t want speakers and wires in the way
It’s atmos yes. The extra fronts are not part of the atmos system though. Atmos needs rear and front sound bar to work.
nice house dude ;)
Thank you!
Can I do this with some One SL's instead since I have two rear surrounds now with an arc and sub? Would I need the amp for this?
I’m really not sure. The SL’s have their own amp so it seems it would work.
Do you need the fronts wired to one amp and the rears to another amp, or can all four speakers connect to the same amp? Wasn’t sure if the single amp can differentiate the sound going to fronts and rears
The rears are connected to the arc along with the sub. The fronts are on their own amp and simply grouped in the same group within the app. The only thing that is really happening here is louder front right and left. It gives you the impression of a larger more defined 5.1 system. Don’t get me wrong I am thrilled that I did it and it sounds amazing but it is not an actual 7.1 system.
The fronts are wired to a separate amp. The rears are also running on a separate amp but they are bridged to the arc along with the subwoofer. Then the fronts are grouped in the app with the arc the rears and a subwoofer. This is not a 7.1 system. All I am really accomplishing is making the fronts sound louder. Don’t get me wrong I’m really glad I did it it sounds amazing but it is still just a 5.1 system
How do you set up the 2 rears as rear speakers with the Amp, im only able to get the as fronts,
the rears are grouped in the surround set up. the fronts are a paired group after the rear set up.
How do you tune it? Once you pair the amp and front mounted speakers does the sonos app allow you to tune it? Might be a dumb question but I have an additional 2 sonos one speakers and tried to add it to my sonos arc, sub, and 2 rear speakers and it doesn't allow me to tune it. Wondering with an amp and mounted front speakers if you can and the app allows you to?
I can run true tune while the the front amp is on. It does not send a single specifically to the fronts but there is sound coming from them during the tuning process.

Does the arc need to be plugged into a amp for this setup or wondering why you have the 3rd amp? Right now in the app, I have connected surrounds to the Arc and have the other 2 front speakers in the same group... haven't tested it much yet.
the arc does not need an amp. my apms run the house, rear channel speakers in the ceiling and extra front speakers which are their own group.

I’ve commented already in the past, but I have follow up question for you. I have 4 ceiling speakers as well. Very similar setup but with a wall behind couch …. Nothing has been connected yet … my question is, can you use front pair to make (simulated) 5.1.2 Setup ? Could the front two be atmos speakers ? Thanks again for the helpful video
Yes and no. Sonos does not make a surround atmos amp that I know of. That’s what you’d need to make the fronts and rears true surround. That said an extra amp grouped (in app) with a sound bar will cause the front channel to sound louder.

Good video, but I don't envy you trying to set up a system in that space - very challenging. I know its extremely common to put a TV over the fire place, I get it, , however the viewing angle is always compromised regardless of how big the TV is. Nothing against you, but I would have put the TV on the wall that has the Octopus picture and lower it down to viewing height while your sitting on the couch preventing a fantastic sounding system from being compromised by a TV that's 2' too high to enjoy over a 2 hour movie. You could even get a new short throw laser projector for that wall and have a 110" image since you have really tall ceilings... just my 2 cents. I just bought the flagship Samsung 85" 4K Nano Tech micro LED TV with the Sonos ARC, sub, and rears and its mind blowing in my home theater room. I view my Sonos as a great stepping stone into a full blown B&W system which will come down the road.
Thanks for the comment. I agree completely on the tv. It’s too high for me. My wife doesn’t seem to mind and I don’t watch it enough to really care. Weird trend.

They are Sonos architectural speakers the round version.

I do not have any wall-mounted speakers only ceiling. They are the architectural Sonos round version and yes they are connected to their own Sonos amp that is linked to the Arc
@@bobbygfl sorry I meant the ceiling speakers. How do you connect the arc and amp with the TV? Is it Arc > TV & Amp > Arc ?
@@PatrickGuerrisi Wirelessly in the app. The rear speakers are wired to a Sonos amp. The TV is wired to the arc. The sub is plugged into the wall. Once everything is running the Sonos app will ask you to find equipment. Once it finds the sub, amp the arc it will ask you if you want to bridge them all together as a system. Everything must be on the same Wi-Fi network. That’s all there is to it.
@@bobbygfl no worries thanks alot.. so the amp just talks to the arc via the network got it
@@bobbygfl sorry forgot to ask did you get them to set it up as a 5.1 surround sound?
Hi, i,m intrigued by this set up but does it not suffer from lag on the front overheads? If you try and add a pair of Ones or Fives to an Arc as anything other than rears, you can't do it as Sonos can't sync them. Maybe I'm misunderstanding how you've set this up in the app?
There is no lag and these are set up as a additional set in the group. No different than creating a group of pool speakers bedroom speakers and house speakers for instants. In this manner it is not a true 7.1 system by any means but the arc seems to compensate by moving the simulated front surround more towards the middle of the room.
@@bobbygfl cool, i'm going to give it a go, anyway
Tried this with Sonos fives left and right but it doesn’t work in that configuration as the very slight lag makes the front left right and centre feel like it’s got a huge reverb on it. I can, however, see how in your configuration with ceiling mounted speakers in a room with quite high ceilings it might work. What we really need is just for Sonos to let us use a pair of ones or fives as front left and right where the Arc does the centre and Atmos.
@@ains002 you can actually get them to sync... the sound will be synced but lip lag just may be a tiny bit off if your tv show is dialogue heavy. But is awesome for sports because the lag is so tiny and you don’t see the faces/lips moving. So go into the app add the 5s you have to the group so you now have the TV sound coming from the Arc and the 5s. Then go to your settings...then the Arc. Scroll down into TV dialog sync. It is a toggle from 0-5. You mess with that while watching your television show and you’ll find the sweet spot where your sound bar will match the two 5s that you synced as pairs. And it will get loud. It’s not a true LCR set up but the sound stage gets A LOT bigger. Enjoy.
@@theglovelock1752 HI - does that TV dialogue change only happen when the extra speakers are grouped or does it have to be reversed every time you go back to just the normal surround grouping? My normal set up lip syncs perfectly over eARC and I'm nervous about anything that might mess with that.
How far did you have to run those wires to the amps
40 feet maybe.
Your amps are in an enclosed cabinet?
Yes according to Sonos it’s no problem and they’ve been in there for over a year and literally no problem I put a fan on them although they said it wasn’t necessary
So wait. You have 2 separate volumes for the beam and the front two speakers?
Yes, it’s not a beam. It’s an arc, but yes.
So you’re grouping the front architectural speakers to the Arc for a better left and right channel off of the Arc?
I try to answer this and explain the experience at the end of the video. It creates a simulated middle overhead channel
@@bobbygfl that makes sense. I was wondering about doing this same thing, but I may hold out because Sonos may update and say “hey! Now you can add another amp for dedicated L&R fronts” which basically would make the bar a center channel
@@earlmcnulty4665 The software is already there. And the arc would always be so much more than just a center channel. All the software is doing according to the Sonos Rep is moving the sound bounced from the arc further toward the middle of the room. Then it adds an appropriate delay so it sounds like it is traveling front to back or back to front. Anyway my point is there is no update needed. Once you install the extra speakers trutune balances the sound.
@@bobbygfl when you add the extra ceiling speakers and re-tune, surely the trueplay tuning still only re -tunes the Arc and any rears/sub you’ve got connected? You can’t add another pair of speakers to the actual room set up, can you, all you can do is add the extra pair in a group?

Do you mean the Sonos one or the Sonos one sl? If so yes you just add them to the group that includes arc+rear+sub. In that group there will be two different volumes. It’s important that you know that this is not a true 7.1 system. You should re-trutune the group. And if you have my experience the sound is incredible.

don't you get a stiff neck watching TV so high up?
We are new to this tv over the fire place thing. Up north everyone does it. It’s not too bad. But yes if there was no fire place it would be lower.
I keep seeing that you can’t connect 4 speakers to the Arc but I suppose this is proof you can
Well to be fair you cannot connect or speakers to the arc this has two speakers connected plus a sub and then the other two speakers are connected to an amp that is simply grouped within the app.

It sounds amazing whatever it is.
Why is your TV so high, my neck already hurts
Yeah I’m with you. It isn’t that bad you do have to kind of lean back in the seat. Up north everybody does this it’s perfectly normal to have the TV so high. You have your Arc too close to the TV, the Arc has top firing speakers, that sound is getting muffled but probably doesn’t make much of a difference since you have speakers on the ceiling. They recently added the option to adjust height audio.
I totally agree. Aesthetically because of that fireplace and mantle we did not want to see the gap. It does still fire pretty well upward. Frankly I was surprised at how well it sounded being that close.
@@bobbygfl I made the same mistake when I hung mine, but I use the SANUS wall mount which let’s you extend the Arc out, solved my problem immediately. Question: Now that you can adjust the height audio through the Sonos app, does it adjust your ceiling speakers or is that only for Arc’s top firing speakers?
@@dnpchallenge no that’s only for the arc speakers and the rear speakers that are grouped with the arc. The front speakers I added I do not have a height adjustment. They are just an extra set playing at the same time.
You can not do a 7.1 setup with an ARC connected. This video is misleading. You can however do a 5.1.2 system with AMPS used as front and rear.
I said it several times that it is simulated. It sounds pretty amazing but you are correct. It is not a true 7.1.
So, two times stereo. Dolby Atmos from CZcams? This has nothing to do with surround sound.

youtube outputs 2.1 and you just tried playing an atmos demo lol also, what is the purpose of the speakers above the arc? they are not surround speakers no matter how much you think they are... unless you simply like grouping a bunch of stereo pairs together for more sound.
