I'm sure we all have favorite movies to show off our sound systems, but, I really highly recommend this movie to show off the sound; Saving Private Ryan 4k Dolby TrueHD/Atmos version. This is the video I was looking for; thanks for making it :). So the in-ceiling speakers are going to replace the ONE SLs? I was considering a similar set up however was confused if the in-ceiling speakers would replace the One SLs or could be had as an add-on. I like the side-firing One-SLs, especially during R-L or L-R moving objects or bullet sounds etc..not sure if the same experience can be created with in-ceiling.

    Peter I had another idea that I hadn’t got around to trying yet. You could go back to your previous setup with 5s or 1s. Then add a non Sonos amp with atmos decoding and feed the ceiling speakers with the atmos channel. I have some ceiling speakers already further forward that are for music prior to getting arc etc. keen to try it one day.

    I have a question for the community...
    My Setup: Playbar, 2 Subs, 2 Fives for surround.

    A year and some ago, I bought an arc to “upgrade” my family room setup. I mainly use it to watch tv but I also like to stream music on it. As soon as I connected de arc I noticed that the mids were not even close to those of the Playbar, the music just sounded better on the Playbar. I did a couple of tests with trueplay and without it but the results were always the same.

Right now I want to upgrade to the arc because of the Atmos, HDMI and because I am having performance issues with the Playbar. Have any of you compare this speakers recently? Maybe with the updates now the arc performs better on the mids?

    • @fortyoztofreedom

      @@juanvalera7272 That is correct. You can only use one set of speakers as the surround sound channels. So if you have in-ceiling speakers which are connected to a sonos AMP, you can set those as the surround sound speakers. You should only use these if they are placed behind your seating area and are spaced out well. If those in-celing speakers are not in the right placement for surround sound channels, then you should use your two sonos one SLs. But you can't use both sets as surround sound. Only one.....for now at least.

      I’m skeptical of that system simply due to price. I had the Shockwafe system about a year or 2 ago. Sold for Sonos. Sonos sounds equal or better IMO, and looks 100x better IMO. And also integrates with my other Sonos rooms. The Dragon price (and you could argue Sonos for that matter) are putting you into solid AVR and real speakers competition. Depending on the room and aesthetics you want, I doubt it can compete. But I’m curious to see / hear it when it launches.

    Hey Peter. Great video, great channel. So here’s one for you: I have an arc, dual one SLs as surrounds, and one sub. First, yes I will be doing a second sub. My tv is enabled for Atmos. It sounds awesome, but what’s worth doing is wired over doing 😊. I want more Atmos height. I now I can replace the surrounds with Eras 300s but I’m about to go further. I was advised to “add” a Sonos amp with two in ceiling speakers. The question is can I “add” that to my current setup or does the amp have to replace my current surrounds in the app configuration. Furthermore I was also thinking a second amp with two in-wall speakers for true left and right in front. Though I can do those as in ceiling over the tv. What are your thoughts on is this doable? Or an I dreaming a Sonos configuration that can’t be done? I know this is usually more expensive than what you can recommend. Let’s assume that is not a problem. I really look forward to hearing what you think. Thanks! - Miguel

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  Před rokem

      Unfortunately, Sonos doesn't support them as in ceiling actual heights speakers. Nor do they support the left and right as your setup. So they will have to replace your surrounds. I actually run them as surrounds even though they are in my ceiling.

      @@PeterPee Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah that seems to be general concensus. So let me ask you this, cause I believe you made this video before the Eras 300 came out. How would you rate the "ultimate" set up described here with an arc/s-subs/eras 300 ? And if I can through in an additional question, Because my Sonos 1 surrounds are under the overhanging lip of my kitchen island (about 5 feet behind my couch), the 300s would not be good there because no clearance for the upward firing drivers. My two choices are stands to the left and right, just behind my couch or wall mounts. The stands would have them really really close to where people sit so I'm not so sure about that. The wall mounts would place the right-surround about 5-6 feet diagnoally back and the left about 11 feet diagnollay back. Preference? Thanks again for responding.

Furthermore I’d love to get another amp and at a second set of in ceiling over the tv as front l/r. Again I don’t know if that can be added, all to my existing setup. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! Miguel

      @StefanoPrezioso Před rokem

      @@MiguelCastro67 My understanding is that currently, you can only add two surround speakers to the Arc setup. Those could be two in ceiling, or two ear level speakers like the One, Five, Era 100, or Era 300. But at most, only two surround speakers are currently supported. The Era 300 does add more upward firing Atmos channels though.

    • @MiguelCastro67
      @MiguelCastro67 Před rokem

      I suspected as so. I’ve considered getting a couple of 300s. My only concern is that if they go in the same location as my current Ones, it may not out. My house is an open concept so my couch faces the TV and my kitchen is behind me. More specifically, the large kitchen island is behind me. So, directly behind the couch is the back of the kitchen island which has a lip over it. It is on that back that I have a little Sonus shelves installed with the ones sitting right there so it’s literally at your level about 4 1/2 to 5 feet behind me. I guess my concern is that the 300s with your upward facing speaker will have that upward facing speaker about 6 inches underneath the overhanging lip of the back of the island. do you think that would matter? Because if it does make a difference, then my next step is to try to find a different location to put the 300s on stands somewhere.

  • @Subjective_JoshNelson

    Guessing because the internal S2 routing/TruePlay won't accomodate, but.... take the set up in this vid, but... the Amp driven ceiling speakers are additional "Atmos down firing" speakers and keep the Pair 5s for Surround at ear level. That would be my ULTIMATE set up, because the Arc's ATMOS doesn't accomplish anything to my ear. What say you Peter? I'm surprised Sonos doesn't have a TruePlay set up with down-firing ATMOS...

    Hi Peter, do you have the intention of checking out the nakamichi dragon as well? It is even cheaper than the setup you have in this video and it looks like its gonna be quite a big deal. Also, how do you think Sonos will react to the dragon? First soundbar ever to have AVR Atmos as well.

      The last time nakamichi launched a dragon, it was a tape deck and it was a big deal. I am sure it’s a big deal this time round. I don’t know if I can buy that though. It’s really too much to invest after spending this much. Haha.

Was hoping Sonos would have released ceiling speakers that were wireless outside of power. Or maybe a more powerful Arc or better Arc design. Maybe the Ones SL with up firing speaker.

    You should try to “group” the bookshelf speakers permanently to this setup to widen the front L/R stereo image. I did this by creating another room in the app and disabling “ungroup on autoplay”. I then downloaded Soro on my iPhone to create shortcuts for controlling both of the rooms simultaneously. I love the arc, but there is nothing like having dedicated speakers on the far left and right. Once you hear the difference, I promise you won’t want to go back!!!

The only thing I see is to disengage the atmos which is very disappointing. What are you using as your source for content? I have 1s as my rears. I am using a windows PC for the source. It has a RTX3060 card with hdmi 2.1 output so Atmos is not a problem. It passes to the LG CX tv properly. For the Apple TV 4K I personally haven’t encountered the issue.

    Sennheiser Ambeo or even others, compared to: Sonos ARC with a sub? Sonos ARC with a pair of Sonos 5? ARC with mini sub and a pair of 5s? Audio dynamics: highs, mids and lows?
    does adding a sub and or Sonos 5s allow the Sonos ARC to be noticeably, cleaner and more dynamic since some of the work goes to other speakers? Or is it just the Sonos software and hardware design that stops it from sounding as good as say a quality pair of studio monitors, like say Yamaha HS8?
    Room size is 13ft x 19ft and 8ft high I do not listen to rap and do not like too much bass. I listen to all rock, Country Western, Bluegrass,new age, bag pipes, pipe organ, punk, piano, a cappella, metal, I hate the stuff they pass off as music mostly since all the auto tune and gridding of noise/music, or since about late 90s. Most pop "music" today is just cheap and easy to make noise. Country today is crap!
