Second Hardest Climb of My Life | Menagerie 9b+ HARD | Adam Ondra

- This is very possibly the second hardest redpoint of my life which I did in November 2022 ✊ It shares the crux with my old route Perlorodka (9a+ or 9b), but it does a much harder start. It is quite common that sections of certain routes can be easily over-graded, but I am quite confident that the upper crux, including very improbable moves, can be an 8B+ boulderproblem. After just having done 9a+ and taking a decent rest.
Enjoy a brand new movie about climbing to the absolute limit! ⚡ There are a few mysterious moments when I had no clue how I stayed on the wall. And these moments are one of the things that make climbing so special for me! And let me know in the comments how you like the video.

9b+ HARD… not to be confused with 9b+ EASY
😂😜
LMAO!
Back in the day I climbed several easy 9b+ and one or two medium ones. Sadly never a hard one...
lol
What’s the point of posting if it’s a measly 9a!
Honestly, aside from being among the best (if not THE best) climbers in the world, the content being produced on this channel is simply exquisite. The alien-level climbing helps, but it's the format that really cements it as THE best climbing content online. Minimal editing on the sends, super high quality footage, deep insight into the challenges from Adam himself, context around the crag / climb, supporting graphics that present just the right information. It's just Adam Ondra and his team, and then everyone else behind him.
Every climbing channel I go on, there’s a gumby claiming it’s the “best content anywhere”! They are either just blowing smoke up the creator’s a$$ or they are not watching Adam’s channel. It’s top quality climbing, A+ narration, and professional videography! I concur.
As a musician/composer it was also interesting to see large parts of the video unscored (without background music). It actually made it really intense and 'real'. I also feel like a lot of climbing YT channels have no fucking clue about music and they just scrape music licensing sites with whatever is free. It really ruins the videos for me if the music is badly chosen. It can bring things to life for sure but it can also ruin an intimate moment. And choosing not to have any music on a send like this might just be the right choice. It felt real. Like I was there. Great work on that!
Totally agree
Def always look forward to the next videos he puts out
Its very true. Its like a Reel Rock level of production every time….for a 10-20min youtube video! Its really incredible and im happy to be here watching 😁👍
he is the best climber in the world no questions asked lol
One thing that makes Adam such a great climber is that he knows when to stop and fight another day. Let the rock win the battle for a day but you will win the War
And another one's that you can still see the little boy having bloody lot of fun out there doing what he loves.
@@hooger1313 yes!
@@hooger1313 ❤
100%. Согласен с тобой, роднюля
I love how the first part of the video just shows the patience you have. Really shows probably your experience to not push yourself into injury and resist the urge to keep trying hard
18:30 to 18:50 as soon as Adam starts screaming, the guy on the bottom starts screaming with him, and the energy man! The support is underrated but Adam is very lucky to have such a team. Cheers and never give up!
This was one of the best pure power, give it all you have moments I've seen in a climbing video. I've got a feeling that I was there.
Yes his bilayer is definitely worth half a grade 👏 🙌
MAN that was good.
Adam, you're evolving. I don't necessarily mean as a climber. I mean that I see an incredible transition happening here. You're not just a climber; you're a story teller, creator, and producer. You're an artist in your own way.
You don't just give us great climbing content. You're giving us history, insight, intrigue, and wonder. Just like how a talented filmmaker does with a movie, or author with a work of fiction.
Keep up the astounding work!
I love this comment. You don't have to be a climber to experience the moments of torment and of joy.
So Sick! I'm still completely mind blown by how easily you look moving through those moves. Next level difficulty for sure!
When are you returning to send it???
@@SpartaSpartan117 im very keen to return but ive got a lot to do before i think about trying something that hard!
@WilliamBosi so cool to see you in the comments. How does the difficulty/climbing on this compare to Excalibur?
@@cvonruex thanks and they are very different routes so it’s hard to compare. This is not too steep and fairly long where as Excalibur is very steep and short! I reckon the Excalibur breakdown is about 8B boulder-bad rest-8B+ boulder in my opinion? Hope this helps 😁
@@WilliamBosi super interesting - thank you for weighing in! Can't wait to see you send Excalibur soon
Whenever I see Adam on his "home crag" I can't help but remember Magnus being like "I'm not gonna lie it's a bit barren", even Adam is slipping all over the place on those polished holds lol
Overuse or just the geology?
@@Fabianwew Geology
this runout, holy shit!
Yeah, that's got to be ground fall?
@@missycalimba no way, it was runout but come on he's not going to hit the ground.
Adam, the only thing that can add to your legend is to bring back the long hair
but that adds weight xD
Idk if its just me, but I've been loving seeing Will doing all sorts of collabs with others!
I love finding him in some random bouldering vid, hanging out in the background and nobody mentions them
I'm pretty sure that one piece of rock is by far the hardest in the world at this point. In addition to the 9b+ and 9a, right below them on the exact same wall are several extremely hard boulders: Terranova (8C+), Drift (8C), Pata Ledovce (8C) and Kráter (8C). Plus the cave to the right (visible at 5:55) is home to Vrtule (8C/+).
I find it fascinating how relatable the problems of a top climber are to mine. It's the same only on a much higher level. Thanks for sharing your process of working out such a route, Adam.
Yes! When he was talking about flash pumping on easy moves, i was thinking about all the times that happens to me. Granted it's me pumping out on 5.10s and not being able to grip jugs at the end 😂😂😂
Vojta je nejlepší jistič na světě!!! Ten z tebe vyždímá naprosto všechno 🔥💪
Souhlas
Finally someone talking about it!! Doing the crux of a route as interval training is such an underestimated technique!
Helps you with:
- confidence (your brain records that you are able to do the move rather than being the point with strongest link with failure)
- specific power endurance (that you will need for the crux)
- getting into the mental state of squeezing hard when you are pumped (lot of people give up much sooner that they can stand!)
Is there a climbing video you do not see within the first 2h of posting?! It's not like I have a life either, but these comments are scarily consistent :)
@@Thuky1 hahaha it happens very often that the videos come out while I'm doing some mobility training 🤣
Adam’s power screams are legendary
The best part about watching Adams films are his humility and honesty. The emotions and reactions are real and that is why the films are some what relateable to your own struggles and achievements. Great work! Always a pleasure.
I like how in the "Crux of the route" section of the video the audio was of Adam on the wall instead of a voice over. It was a small detail but I though it was neat and not seen in many climbing videos. Loved the content and video production quality - Excellent video all around. Thank you for making great content!
Ondras films are the best together with mellow and yet different. No music felt niiiiiceeeee❤❤❤ like a documentary!!!!
9:22 "Na píču podmínka" :D Anyway, massive thumbs up to your editing team, the level of video is absolutely incredible ! The quality, the sound, the editing, the storytelling....just amazing
Adam,
You are able to bestow motivation to all ages of people.
It’s something that is extremely unique in our day and age.
That final runout was insane to add to the stress! My palms were already sweaty!
The belayer or who ever was spotting ( dont know my climbing lingo) was on point with his screaming. it actually felt like it had to be there xD ( at lest for me). If every little Thing counts, you need someone to push you, too :) Awesome Video!
Insane as always, love watching your channel!
beautiful climbing as always. I love these vids
Amazing, congratulations on this milestone Adam (&team)
Man, the end was just basically free solo right ? Amazing job Adam, and the video quality is perfect, as always !
Yeah, that runout made me sweat..
Yup
with a little slip thrown in there to spice things up ahah
I was more nervous about the first 5 meters! Could have cratered from there for sure with the very low first bolt. Definitely run out at the top but probably a clean fall.
And at the end even the rope on the wrong side of foot... spicy !
I got in to watch rock climbing because of Magnus, but your videos are just so beautiful and tell such an amazing story. Your videos are like a journey you have gone on, and we are there along the way. I would love to see in future videos where it is a multi month or year journey like this to see a day or two of training you did specifically for the problem of the story. As an example, a problem you designed in your home gym or on a kilter board that you designed specifically to help with the route crux you are training for :).
Amazing Adam, seeing you try hard like that gives me chills and is very inspiring !
very informative, great video Adam!!!
Congratulations Adam! Great climbing and mental fortitude to keep pushing it! Also the video footage is amazing everything is such great quality!
So nice to watch!! Congrats Adam for sending, and Team for filming and editing!
Amazing work Adam!❤️🔥

Amazing climb and amazing videos! You're such an inspiration love all the work you put in both of them. Just wow.
it feels like, literally, watching your videos makes so much fun. and it gives me so much motivation and power for the future, really.
So cool. Amazing footage, story, and narration
I absolutely love seeing the process behind the climbs, it's not only about the insane sends, it's all the work required for it. Amazing work team to show this part of climbing, keep it up !
Well done Adam. Massive respect. Another amazing glimpse into these mythical grades
Amazing passion Adam. That's part of what distinguishes you from other climbers. You are so emotionally invested that there is no option than sending. It's beautiful to see.
Cogratulations Adam. Awesome climbing and lovely film making too. Also great to see the passion you have for your homeland.
Awesome to watch all you stories, its so inspiring! Great video, thx for sharing with us!
Great footage as always
Congrats Adam ! That was intense !
Love the sound quality in this video! Can hear the rubber hitting the rock, when he is breathing… Great for climbers to analyse Adam’s climbing to see what details we can learn for our own climbing!
🤎
Incredible, as always Adam 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 You inspire to all the climbing community 🎉
ALWAYS A PLEASURE to see you climb, be happy, get stronger and achieve ur goals Adam!! motivating :)
You motivate me, brother! Thank you. :)
If feels so much like happiness seeing your videos Adam. It really motivates me
Amazing effort Adam! Thanks, helps a lot!
Adam, you the boss!!!! Congratulations!!!! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Nice line, and as usual its pleasant to watch you climb !
you got me with the zero degree is an acceptable temperature
Absolutely BEAST!! Mindblowing omg
Thanks Adam! Really needed this after a shitty day. New video from adam - day saved😂
Love the format. It felt like I projected with Adam too. Congrats!!
Congratulations! An inspiration in perserverience against the odds, and fighting through to the completion of a goal. Wow
oooh a fresh Ondra vid lets go!
Congratulations! 9 years, that's quite the feat. Well done!
I am SO happy for you! Not only does this climb look super tough, but fun, but it is just so lovely that your self-declared second hardest climb is in your own country!
can't wait for the repeats. it becomes only truly apparent how crazy hard this thing is when you see other world class climbers work and struggle on it. congrats!
Inspiration in the best possible form. Truly seeing Adam giving it all with so much passion is amazing and giving me a boost in pursuing my small goals. Keep it up Adam. You are brilliant 👏
Such a pleasure to watch Adam's videos. The quality is amazing, you can easily make a special "Adam's reel rock" (or several 😀) with this content.
Many thanks to the team that make this possible 🙏
Every time I see Adam climb and scream, it's wonderful, such sportmanship. Please make more collaborations with Magnus :)
congrats to your great sending! Besides, it´s such an exciting stroytelling, that makes it double great, watching you, my hands are sweating :-) no need for another action film! thanks for that!
Exceptional filmwork to match the climbing!
¡Felicidades, Adam! ¡El que la sigue la consigue ! Eres un auténtico monstruo. Se me ponía el cuerpo en tensión viéndote escalar en este video, y vaya ganas de gritar me daban 🤣 Felicidades también a tu equipo por este video tan bien hecho.
Honestly Adam, context of your climbing has taken to a different level. You seem to have stepped back from "content" and focus on what really matters to you! You climb with focus and precision that is unheard off and I salute you for that. Great inspiration for me and thousands out there. Ďakujem veľmi pekne a hádam budem mať česť ťa niekedy vidieť "na ostro" ako sa u nás hovorí.
Dude man! It's so awesome to see you proving your still the master! I must admit, sometimes these crazy link up climbs start to seem a little bit illogical in theory. But watching you climb it in reality seemed to make plenty of sense. Congrats on another 9b+!!!
Thanks for the absolutely fantastic videos, not only is the climbing extraordinary but the beautiful filming and production, it's all absolutely top notch !!
And an added thanks for the translations helping us who's Czech (?) is a little rusty to get an even better understanding of the situation, and "banter" :)
Best regards
Man I LOVE watching Adam climb and I wasn't even interested in climbing before stumbling over this channel. He is such a nice guy a pleasure to warch
Great film - no music, sustained medium shots. Really conveys the effort and achievement. Thanks
I have never climbed much more than a tree but these videos are inspiring to say the least! following all the details on how you prepare for these climbs is extraordinary!
Absolutely awesome rock quality, great shot at 3:10 showcasing it
Incredible feat....Congratulations 🎉
Amazing, dude. 🤘🏻🔥
F..king love the intensity!!!
My hands got sweaty just from watching this. Great storytelling format.
savage! Congratz!
congratulations !!!👍🏻
One of the best climbers ever. Patience pays off
I love watching the struggle. it is inspiring to watch. I feel motivated to go and just try really hard at something! Doing the dishes, screaming at the crux! haha jk but seriously I love the burn when you feel on your limit, and then somehow pull through. Awesome climb Adam!
Been looking forward to this since it was announced
All I could think watching Adam get to the chains was “dude hurry up and make the clip!!!” Watching him be completely comfortable with that amount of runout on such a short route is crazy…..Awesome job Adam🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤙🏽
That final runout was insane to add to the stress!
What a climb!! Power, strength and know how. Great viewing.
"A few forgotten 9a" 😅👌...
8 or 9 years since such an amazing video footage you did with Petr..
And now we can see perfection, the ultimate effort after all this work and passion you put in all your projects...
Congratulations Adam, a real inspiration for all climbing world 👍
thank you adam that you let me take a picture together with you today :)
it was like, no way he is here !?
unbeliveable for climbers like me what you are able to do. gratz to this top.
Congrats Adam
9b+ and making it look like a sidewalk!! To a non climber all I can say is HOW??!! You're literally a spider. Damn impressive!! Congratulations, Adam!
Awesome victory dance at the top of the route!
I don’t know anything about climbing, nor have any distinct interest in it but boy do i thoroughly enjoy watching this man climb! It’s so fascinating watching him do what he’s a master at
Nice job Adam ;)
Great stuff!
One awesome aspect of climbing that is so much better than every other sport is you can succeed at the highest level and no one but your podge is there to cheer. Very intimate. Maybe my favorite part.
My brother Jakub at 10:25 much love! Great video per usual Adam!
Nicely done 👏
