Do you guys think 2D or 3D Mario is better??
It depends on your taste. Both do an terrific job and most games are great no matter what as long as people can enjoy them. But personally, I'm more of an fan of 2D Mario games than an 3D ones. Although games like the Galaxy Duology and 3D Land/3D World are some of my favorite 3D Mario games.
Personally I think 3d games are better but I prefer 2d because I can play with with my cousins 😀. As he said multiplayer and expansiveness are the biggest factors of both for me

Personally I’m the most biased for 3D world and galaxy from 3D, but on the other hand 2D also has a lot of good games like the nsmb series(minus 2 imo), Mario bros 2, 3 and the land games are pretty good and I love wonder. Even though I like 3D more, It’s still debatable when the mainline games get new entries.

Great video Parker! Mario is such a strange franchise to me because while the 3D games all generally feel very much like their own unique experience, the 2D counterpart, to me, peaked at super Mario world and I haven’t found much of a reason to go back since lol. Maybe wonder will finally give me one!
That’s how I’m feeling too! Like, the “New” series was a nice way to pass the time, and good multiplayer, but I really expect wonder will provide actual memorable experiences in a way that hasn’t been the case in decades!
Honestly, I loved Odyssey, it's one of the best games I ever played. But for some reason I think I like Wonder more. I like the graphics more, the game is full of great ideas creatively on par with Odyssey, it is an open world too, and the gameplay is just pure, classic gaming fun but in a modern overcoat.
If not better, I definitely wouldnt put Odyssey too far ahead and like I write the colorful graphics are so pretty and neat and so many great ideas.
I'm right there with you I think. The reviews comparing Wonder to Super Mario World so have me excited. As a kid, I think World did a good job capturing that exploration idea, but the 3D space has largely taken that in ways that are going to be harder to replicate in 2D (Metroid being the immediate counterexample).
Also, as a fellow dad, the dad jokes are appreciated. XD
Quick correction regarding the Daisy mention at 10:05, Nintendo considers Super Mario Run to be a mainline game. And *THAT* was Daisy’s first playable appearance in a mainline Mario game.
Oh interesting! I would not have thought of Super Mario Run as a mainline game lol But sure! If Nintendo counts it, then that'll do it! :)
Multiple playable characters were a thing in Mario 64 DS, but having some stars be locked behind specific characters made the pace a bit weird, I do commend the ability to use caps found in levels to temporarily transform into those other characters, which at least made it so that you didn't have to go back and switch characters as often.

Before I even bought Wonder I knew I wouldn't like it more than Odyssey, or even nearly as much. There's no comparing 2d and 3d mario for me usually, thought it should be noted that I own Maker 2 and Wonder on Switch but not 3D All Stars
Edit: However, if they add a versus mode as DLC then this discussion could get a lot more interesting

Mario Odyssey is my favorite game second only to BOTW. This video makes me wish I had more time to play video games and makes me excited for a couple of years from now when my toddler will be able to play with me.

i thought you were gonna talk about the things they share such as
the purple coins
the kingdoms
the non-toad inhabitants such as the people of tostarena kingdom and the new donk citizens (and poplins of the flower kingdom)
the different enemies
the map (well it’s a different map but ok)
the fact that these only apply to these 2 games

Why not? It literally functions as a 3D Mario game so it should be considered a 3D Mario game. Just because it has a different structure from 64, Sunshine, the Galaxy games and Odyssey that doesn’t mean it’s not 3D.

That's subjective, for sure! But they definitely each have something to each each other!
Thought mario odyssey was the worst 3d mario. So little actual platforming and as a collectathon it's not very good either
Interesting! Tbh it’s my favorite one. I’ve got a lot of nostalgia for others but especially when trying to 100% it, i find it really great (whereas I think getting the bare minimum moons and no post game could easily be a bit more underwhelming for sure)
You bugging brother odyssey surpassed super mario 64 you must not be a moon collector as for wonder this is a classic to super mario world

I've *always* preferred 2D over 3D Mario lol. But I also think I just prefer 2D to 3D games in general, but that might have more to do with the games I grew up with 🤔
