Hello there! I am a nurse a school. Several of my students have used/are using the Inpen. It is really nice for families /kids that want the technological benefits of a pump, but do not want to wear a pump all the time.
My only suggestion when using this at school have your provider write the orders that the Inpen does not need to follow the typical "3 hour rule" that you traditionally follow with a standard pen. Our families were using the pen for corrections before the 3 hours by subtracting IOB just like pumps do, but at school we were unable to do this because our orders still stated to wait 3 hours before correcting to avoid stacking insulin.
Together with working with our families and our local children's endocrinologist we were able to get the orders modified.

This pen is only calculating a guess at IOB so is functionally exactly the same as a traditional pen. You can manually calculate the same dosages.

Getting my InPen this week can’t wait to get started. This pen only compatible with a Dexcom G5 or G6 sensor. So I will be changing over from a freestyle sensor to a Dexcom. I want this to be easy and not complicated in taking care of myself

My nurse practitioner has me on an InPen and Dexcom G6. This is a great combo. I don't need to go back to a pump.

I had the inpen for a long time and I loved it so much because it’s not to advanced but it’s still more advanced than a normal pen
I take a picture of my dose using my iPhone quick camera access. Very easy and convenient. No more doubts whether I took my insulin or not or how much I took or at what time!
Looks interesting. I might try it. I use Fiasp rapid insulin.

do they produce the insulin cartridges in the humalog 75/25 mix?
Is InPen considering offering any CGM integration? Seems like it would be good if the app could watch your glucose values and recommend insulin shots when values rise. Seems like the data recorded from both CGM & shots could provide more useful data to help us.
In general, do you still feel the InPen is a good product? Are there any competing products with more features? Is this generally covered by insurance? Thanks for any answers.

Please update your video to include the "actual" changing of the insulin showing how to wind back the plunger. I think this is an important step that got overlooked.
Waiting for mine to come in the mail next week! Does anyone know if I can use every feature without the Dexcom app? I have Pixel 4 and it doesn't work so I use xDrip. I see xDrip can download data from the pen, but I wonder if I can generate the report with CGM data and boluses from xDrip or how should I do this.

I have been using the InPen for about six months now and I absolutely love it. I would rather still be using my T slim but unfortunately pumping is no longer possible for me at this time

Will the app tell you - "are you sure you want that much?" or is there a setting that says don't insert more than X units - like a pump PDM would?

My 14 year old son loves his inpen.
Is there a tutorial for beginners who have never used the InPen? There are so many references that are not familiar - mainly looking to know how to calculate doses based on carbs. Is there a carb estimator for basic types of foods? How do you know how much carbs are in each potential meal.
If I was in your shoes I would contact my doctor for a referral to a diabetes educator to go over both the InPen and carb counting education :)
Love your videos. People with diabetes are strong people in having to deal with all thats involved in diabetes.
I need to look into this but waiting for Fiasp cartridges to be available in the US (they finally have an NDC listing, and looks like FDA gave approval for use with InPen). But at this point I have a LOT of pens to go through before I need to switch, and hopefully by then the new NovoPen series will be out, with similar features (they've been at "FDA approval soon" for over a year now).
Chris Petersen -I’m using the Fiasp cartridges. I also had some Fiasp pens leftover. I filled the Fiasp cartridge when it was empty with the pen. It was easy. I only refilled a cartridge once cause I worried about contamination. Used up 10 pens by the time I got thru 10 cartridges.
This is perfect. Want to have one.
May seem a little silly but do you need a new needle for each dose? How often does it get switched out? Is it switched with the cartridge?
You should put a new pen needle on with each injection yes :)
I remember when they invented one for rapid insulin back like 15 or more years ago. I was a teenager so they gave me one and it was the best thing ever. They didn't get a lot of interest In them for a while and then came out with more designs. I remember begging for a long acting one cause I would always forget if I took lantus as it becomes so routine and even rapid would forget so it was so helpful having the memory
I use a Timesulin cap on my Lantus. It's just a simple timer that counts up, but resets to zero when you take the cap off for more than few seconds. Unfortunately, they're a bit hard to find these days (and expensive when you do) but you can crack them open (literally) and replace the "not user serviceable" battery when it wears out (you just have to glue it back together again).

We don't have these pens in the UK soooooo jealous, damn NHS are 'still testing them'! I want one.

Yes, you still take a long acting insulin. But it will text you a reminder so you never forget.
Can I use the same needles I use with my disposable pens?

Insurance covered mine 100% and the pharmacy package said I saved $1008.09. 🤪 Plus the cartridges are significantly more than the traditional pen costs. On a sidenote, the insurance does not cover Dexcom cgm and I believe that may be the only compatible brand with the InPen at this time.
Sadly not available in the UK....

How is it charged?
The battery lasts a year and then you get a new pen! I’m not aware of a way to charge it. 😊

Really depends on your insurance. Mine paid 100% and the pharmacy bag showed I saved $1008.09 exactly. This is the first device that was covered as I generally get generic brands filled. Without coverage, many diabetics sadly won't have access to this or the Dexcom or anything else that makes this slightly easier.
It's only $35 if you go through their program, which is pretty painless. It's $600 otherwise, which is probably why most insurances won't cover it.

This is yet another approach that doesn't take into account fat or protein. I believe that Diabetics and the healthcare system worldwide should be doing this when factoring in insulin.
Going to be honest, I have been disappointed with the lack of instructional videos on this pen. Mine came with the plunger apparatus unwound and a bit loose looking. I wasn't even sure what was normal and what wasn't. Most of these videos don't really slow down and show us how to even get it started. These 'helpful' devices can be a bit overwhelming for some. Also, the price! Wow...what if it gets lost, broken or damaged?! Please work with these companies and voice the financial struggles many Type1 diabetics face, especially those not on their parents insurance.

Honestly I don't understand why it's a smart pen, the app does all the work. I use regular disposable insulin pens (type 2 diabetes) and I don't have any problem knowing how much insulin is left and when to use a new pen. I think the app would work just as well with a pen that's not a smart pen. I guess I'm not seeing the benefit.
I think the main benefit is that it records your injections automatically so that you can track your insulin on board, and that it can do half unit dosing. Ideal for diabetics especially tyoe 1s who take alot of small injections throughout the day.

Such BS 0 it's a pen and a pen is a pen is a pen. Sticking yourself more and more. Not saying the pump is better saying the pen is a pen is a pen.
