For those hoses on pipes, also silicone boots, try a spray cleaner like 409. It is slippery for assembly and dries and makes the parts stick together so they don't want to blow off. Silicone spray stays slippery and is much more likely to blow off.

Alex, I'm so sorry for you. I've done several Jeep CJ 5 & 7's, which are notorious for frame and body rust. I've been in your shoes every time. The dejection is terrible. The you put your Carhartt's on, roll your sleeves up just start working. When it's all said and done, it's taken far more time than you imagined and you have 5x's more money than you'll ever be able to get out of it. It's just a work of love, and when it's finally complete it's almost a letdown. And you think to yourself, "I know what to look for now." And you end up with another one that's just as much work. Some people do crack, some do alcohol, some to cars. Although, cars can lead to alcohol... 😂😂

It's definitely a crap shoot that's for sure.
      ..
It's looking like a replacement frame which there are options available..
Even then Alex still wouldn't be upside down considering he paid at the lower end for the Delorean...
With a replacement frame the value of the car goes up.
I've suggested, see if OJ could make.
One off bespoke frame using the original as a template.
Knowing the top work they do at FMU it would be stronger than the original..
Only say this as Alex said this is a lifetime keeper..

The amount of work you have to put into the DeLorean might seem overwhelming right now, but you know it'll be worth it eventually. There's an older man close to where I live that has completely restored a DeTomaso Pantera. It took him almost 20 years, as he had to remove everything all the way down to the bare frame. While he's never going to have a project anywhere as intense as that one, he's proud of his work. He knew that he wouldn't be satisfied with mediocre work in the long run.

If I was thinking in terms of easiest swap, I would build a 3.0 PRV out of an Eagle Premier. That engine already has DIS, modern EFI, is a direct swap, and costs about 200 bucks in most junkyards. Control it with a Haltech ECU and add a turbo or two. If cost was no object? My first choice would be a TDI V10, but if it didn't fit, I would have to say a GM 1.2 or 1.3 3 cylinder, the LIH, or L3T. These are sub-200 lb engines, all forged internals, that stock make either 137 or 155HP on 87 octane. Take one of those, control it with a Link Force GDI ECU, upsize the turbo by quite a bit, and tune it for 93 octane. Sub 200lb engine that makes 250-300HP easily, possibly even more. The design of the block, pistons, and rods is so advanced compared to something like a 2.0 Ecotec, or Honda engine, that I am sure it can handle much more. I mean it has DLC coated wrist pins, seriously. Cast iron cylinders cast into an aluminum block with a full bed plate. And just all of the latest technology. And they can be had for $1500 or so. The engine isn't the expensive part, it's an ECU capable of controlling it.

Or even go to the Eagle Premier 3.0 PRV V6. Direct swap and has EFI already. Get a Haltech standalone and a turbo (or 2), and some more modern injectors and coils, and you're pretty much all set. Those engines sell for 200 bucks or so complete, so it ends up a lot cheaper to do it that way. Even stock those engines make more power than the B280F, not to mention the increased reliability with proper EFI.

Hi. Norwegian viewer here :) hehe. I can confirm that the stupid taxes on importing cars have ruined a car-fantasy or two for me over the years hahahaha. I love to follow along and watch how the delorean turns out. I know the frame is a disappointment, but if you do this properly you will be so happy :) First time I saw a DeLorean in real life it was one in pieces - literally in pieces - sitting on a trailer at the gas station in the small town I'm from. It made me happy to see it, even if it was in pieces. Love those cars. Love to tag along here and see what it really takes to fix one up.
I get that you are bummed out and tired of disappointments hehe - like the frame - but man - these twists makes the content so much more interesting and valuable for us that watch it. Don't get me wrong - I feel you hehe, but it's not only negative :).

The body and interior are your most important parts for what you want to do. You could replace it with a new reproduction frame or fabricate a custom frame or drop the body on to a frame from a different car totally. In my opinion the thrid option is your best option as it seems you are also looking at doing an engine swap. I think an LS6 would be a great option for the swap and you might be able to get a doner car that has everything you need Frame, Engine and all.

i suggest that you clean with the least abrasive method the valley and apply Alodine, it's a corrosion inhibitor that we use in the aircraft industry to passive the aluminium corrosion, after that you can apply any hot temp primer and paint to extra protection (preferible epoxy). Alodine is now distributed by henkel as bonderite, check the M-CR 1200, M-CR 1500, M-CR 600

  • @ced3098

Just a note on stainless fasteners.
There is a reason you should be glad they didn't use them.
Where you used that stainless bolt your probably fine. But a good rule of thumb is to never mix stainless hardware with aluminum, and never use stainless hardware if you ever want it to come back apart. Stainless will gall and fuse together permanently. If you ever want any hope of stainless hardware being able to come back apart you must passivate the hardware with some kind of acid based product, use anti seize, then never tighten then with power tools.
There's a whole mil-spec guide for using stainless fasteners for different applications that's really specific. With things like maximum turns per second of tightening/ loosening motion to prevent them from fusing.

As few DeLoreans were made, I would recommend keeping it original. Once you start modifying it, it will be hard to put it back original and you will kill the value. Have you heard of a "duce coup"? 32 Ford coupe or v8 Ford. Because of all of the hotrods that were built out of them it is extremely rare to find one that is all original. Something to think about before you engine swap.
