First off, I’ve heard so many cases like this. Never victim blame. But I have been in the military for a while now and you cannot just think it’s okay to sleep in a room full of drunk males. Red flags everywhere. Doesn’t matter who you trust. Never trust anyone under the influence. I applaud you for taking the brave decision to tell your story. Young military service members don’t realize the dangers out there.

I agree with you Jennifer, 99%.... that 1% that I don't not so much disagree with, but think that you could have worded differently is when you said "you cannot just think it’s okay to sleep in a room full of drunk males"
Obviously this young trusting girl thought that is WAS ok as these guys were her friends... I'm pretty sure in hind sight (and hind sight is an amazing thing) that she would now agree that it's not a good idea to sleep in a room full of drunk males... friends or not.
I suppose what I'm saying to you is this... you could have worded it differently, your wording made it sound like she should take some of the blame.... and she was 100% the victim here. Now she's a survivor with a cautionary experience to share with others.
It's now 2020 and this happened over 8 years ago, I hope this young lady is getting on with her life and moving from strength to strength in her career, her dreams and her relationships.

@@MsUa125 Cause they still view women as unequal in the military. It's been fairly recent to allow women into all roles of the military.. Victim culture and the one person who does lies they believe it's now lies 1000% across everybody else.They don't take things seriously, unless you have evidence *good luck sneaking in a video camera/recorder or having witnesses..* or multiple people come up for the same person, they'll harass and haze until people pull out of the process or if you stand together it's still other legal precautions necessary. Takes a long time with no guaranteed.. If you try moving, the new place will just know the stories in advance, but this time without any familiar people or friends present.

I watch this and think if she was my daughter who would send their daughter to war to be attacked by her comrades

Going to a hotel room with a bunch of drunk guys and wearing a 'shorty' nightgown? That's got to be the dumbest thing - it's like college girls getting drunk at a frat party and going into the back room. It's a tough way to learn that lesson, but how naive can you be?

While she may or may not be an actress these incidents happen a lot and to a shipmate it is a very disturbing ordeal. It truely effects everyone in the Navy. These issues are serious and are real.

You do not understand the experiences of another unless you have experienced them, and sometimes not even then. Just because you would not have made a particular choice or agreed with it does not mean the person who did make that choice is bad or inferior or deserving of blame for it. You do not know what influenced that choice, either, unless the person tells you.

Women join the military because they want to serve their country just like the men do. It’s supposed to be a team where we watch out for each other. I never saw anything like this happen when I was in the Army though I have no doubt it did after seeing so many videos like this. She is incredibly strong for coming forward and I’m glad her attacker faced justice instead of it being swept under the rug.

I remember in the navy that they trained us to believe that if two sailors had sex while drunk it was the male who raped the female. Regardless if both parties consented at the time. If she regretted it a day, week, year later she could file a rape claim and he would get prosecuted. Even if you took a woman out to dinner and she had a single glass of wine she couldn’t consent and you could get in trouble. Eventually this lead to us just drinking alone with guys only, which would upset some females who felt they were being unfairly excluded and guess what you could get captains mast for that too. After years of this we eventually just started to bang each other instead of looking for women. You could drink all night with your fellow sailors and feel safe in his arms knowing that your boy has got you and won’t tell anyone or report what happened.

This made me tear up and it's taken a lot not to cry. I'm so sorry this happens in ohr military and is one reason why I'm actually kind of happy I didn't join when I was younger, even though a part of me wishes I still did. I already have a long history of sexual abuse and just... The military is supposed to be a brotherhood. A family. Doing AFJROTC throughout high school gave me a home during that harsh time in my life and something to look forward to and just... This stuff makes me sick. I'm SO proud of our vets and our soldiers who do good but there are way too many stories of not only assault but shunning and of the people they're supposed to be able to go to for help not believing or shunning or worse and... The corruption seems to know no bounds. Not even in something as honorable as the service. To all who have suffered this while serving, my heart breaks for you a million times over. Thank you all for being strong and sharing your story.

Similar to me except I'm still in the process of MEPs..a part of me wants to bail, but knowingly hearing I might think about what if I did join? or worry of regret has me here. I'm trying to be brave but I'm absolutely terrified of this stuff happening to me. people just say it happens everywhere anyway but..like it's more present when the ratio is 1 girl to 20-30 guys so..

Realize this is a very old post but still relevant in my mind. Now of course not being a female I can never truly understand how this impacts a womans life. But why would a woman ever contemplate keeping a baby conceived from the result of a rape? I would have thought (again as a male) you would be screaming "get this thing out of me". Terrifying ordeal for women and hoping they can recover and please don't feel shame or guilt you didn't ask for this at all.

It is deeply disturbing that she was found deceased. Somebody did something to the girl which is why she disappeared from Fort Hood. And another soldier, a male, from Fort Hood disappeared from Fort Hood too. And he was found dead as well. He was a Calvry Scout Sergeant. Somebody killed him too.
Why is she confessing? Did she do something wrong or is this the same old victim blaming that happens in the military.

I was in the airforce it happened to me year s 1984 to 1990.
It's terrible what happened here but as a military female you should never ever get a room with a bunch of drunk men, I mean come on, it's like you are asking for it.

I was raped by #JonathanTylerMoore on the #USSPrinceton in 2005 and when i attempted to report it, I was covered up with a bad paper(OTH) discharge. He got an honorable discharge and now works for #Amtrak.

I'm female and joining the navy, this year. Women can serve and never be raped but what happened to her was to be expected. Never follow a drunk man into an enclosed space. It's (rape) not right and I'm not condoning it but she made a series of bad decisions that allowed him to make the worst bad decision. Rape is a crime of opportunity, so women have to be vigilant about giving men the opportunity to rape them. Dont get drunk with a bunch of sex starved men. The moment he grabbed her ass was the moment to call a taxi to take her back to make a report, tell her other guy friends and leave. Say "Hey, I'm going back to the barracks. O boy, has been very disrespectful and grabbed my ass. I'm no longer comfortable hanging out with him." Then back to the barracks to snitch immediately.
