- The Mekons filmed at Dolce Vita, Lausanne, Switzerland. Songs: Trouble Down South, Hello Cruel World, Where Were You, The Shape I'm In, Last Dance, Big Zombie, Hard To Be Human - according to Birst Hirst in the comments, thanks! Kevin Lycett reckons it's in late 1986 after the Edge of the World album or early '87 before Honky Tonkin - InfotainmentScan making the same point. Anyone else able to pinpoint it more accurately? The band: Tom Greenhalgh, Jon Langford, Eric Bellis aka Rico Bell, Susie Honeyman, Steve Goulding, Kevin Lycett.
(The clip came listed and was first posted as being, er, The Men They Couldn't Hang on Sept 14 1990 ... getting five thumbs up before Rob in the comments pointed out that it wasn't actually them!)

This is great - never seen this footage before. I don't think it's from 1990 though - going by the set list and the fact that Kevin's on bass I reckon it's earlier, maybe 1987? Full tracklist is:
Trouble Down South
Hello Cruel World
Where Were You
The Shape I'm In
Last Dance
Big Zombie
Hard To Be Human
For sure, if this was 90 there would be several tracks from " Rock' n Roll .
Thanks! It was found named - and er, oops also posted up as being The Men They Couldn't Hang. So it's quite likely the date is wrong too. Looking at www.Mekons.de it's maybe 1988, as they did European tours then? I'll change the title with a ? but also let's see what the consensus is?
@@GazelyGaze But if it was 1988, wouldn't there be at least one song from Honky Tonkin' in the set? Either way, thanks a lot for posting!
@@InfotainmentScan Maybe - so is that a vote for 1987? Though - it's just a short extract of the gig, so it's possible they did new numbers later on?
@@GazelyGaze Yeah, I'd vote 1987 (or late 1986). You've got at least the last half of the concert here, I think, maybe more. Their live album "New York: On The Road, '86-'87" includes a cover version of 'The Shape I'm In', which they do the same way here and never recorded for an album... so that also points to 1986-87, I think.
Greatest and most underrated band in the world. Period. Always managed to retain that punk energy.
It was after Edge of the World ('86) cos we're playing Big Zombie, and prob before Honky Tonkin (87) cos we're not playing owt from that in this clip. Plus we are obscenely young and slender.
Thanks, Kevin! Can you confirm who the band-members are on this?
@@GazelyGaze Tom, Jon, Eric, Susie, Steve and me. And we were all very tired.
@@kevinlycett7188 Thanks! So no Sally or Lu. Maybe that places the time - Wikipedia says Sally joined in 1985 - and/or 1986, on her page.
@@GazelyGaze Sally was already recording with us, but she didn't tour live full time until 88ish. Lu was on and off all this time too, so their absence is not a reliable indicator. I'm pretty confident it's later 86 or early 87.
@@kevinlycett7188 Thanks! I've amended the description to convey that.
Wonderful
I love how Rico looks confused during his accordion solo 4:50
This is amazing. Thanks for uploading
Last Dance could easily be a Pogues number.
