As a filthy casual who knows nothing about Smash beyond its existence, I always find that the combos like Prince's and Tacos' are my favourites to watch. The second combo in this vid got me so fucking hyped and I can't stop watching it, purely for the reaction of the crowd, judges and commentators.

I kinda get what your saying, but I really don't see the "bias" argument I LOVE Prince, and was rooting for him, but near the end I was like come on Kort show them what your made of!! but if he got that combo, then he'd win. And Prince gaining extra points for being Prince I feel like people just feel like "Oh, he's a really good player, so I hope to see someone step up and dethrone him." (Doesn't happen) "Well that was expected." , and characters meaning something. I have no issues with any of the judges but they do seem to be amateurs to judging (some of them). But I don't feel changing the system would do much. They all did amazing, but what he did broke some of what many of them could even imagine, therefore it spiked his results IMO. But even then Prince did have an incompleted combo, which I kinda see some bias there, but they showed love to others. It would have been neat to see Prince dethroned. But he worked towards winning, his combo was something unnatural (via round 2). And they even just hoped for all of them to get by, there not biased, but I can see how people would believe so. But yeah they all did amazing and I understand the flashiness beating it out, but they all had an opinion, that being it doesn't have to be technical, just has to be making the crowd go wild. And also that it just has too look good and the wow factor. Not to mention the compliments they gave other contestants. That's my side of things. (Sorry if this is a sloppy response, I am not good at arguing points).
I agree, but the whole gimmicky > skill makes sense from an entertainment standpoint. It's safe to assume everyone there understands Smash64 at a technical level, but that's not the point. The point it to great some flashy moves. Yes, it does take skill to perform such moves. But understanding certain mechanics and utilizing items/moves in ways they aren't usually used it far more entertaining than watching the same combos.
You and me both. "I don't follow combo videos, but i just had thought about the contest as i was watching and I realized that I care more about how i feel about the combos rather than the judge's scores and how irrelevant the scores are to the actual enjoyment of the seeing these combos come to life."
I felt that one a bit overrated. So I completely disagree that it can even be compared to Prince's! I also like Kort's 1st combo better than Tacos', the slow-mo gimmick was way overrated. Not saying Tacos didn't do a DAMN AMAZING combo, though!!!
The 64 combo contest is one of my favorite smash events of the year. I really like the idea of giving more time for later rounds (especially the finals). The way the elimination rounds are step up now incentivizes the players to front-load their best combos. With more time, players might save their more difficult/spectacular combos for the end.
I think they should change the format so everyone plays all the rounds and the score's are totalled. These players probably put so much work into their combos. It's a shame we don't get to see them all.
Prince surely is an amazing smash player and nails the combos-- but watching this, I can't help but feel as if the judges are bias towards Prince because he is fan favourite, giving him straight 10s each time. I feel the judges should also show their cards all at once-- to eliminate peer presure. Good show though, all of these people are damn good players! Prince deserved to win, no doubt about it-- but I feel the judges were poor at giving the scores, flipping 9 and 10's as if it was nothing, and then calling an 8 a ''disappointment''. Isn't it 1-10? Shouldn't 7-8 shouldn't be bad scores, but the judges were too quick to give ''too high scores'' I think, and therefore making it seem like everything underneath a 9 or 10 was ''mediocre'', when it shouldn't be.
The scoring system used here is actually on a 5-10 scale. So really 7 or 6 is the closest middle grounds on the scale. And everyone preformed fantastically, a lot of new tricks and showmanship was used which is paired well with technical prowess. However I do agree with you that the scores where oddly high this time around.
"Doesn't have to be the "most" difficult." As he said in the video. Don't twist words around man. He also stated it had to be enough to get people out of their seats, which shouldn't be the best thing in the world.
I watched the clip where they scored and it's just that the first paper wasn't the score they were going for. They never changed the order of the cards in till the end so what may have happened was that they didn't have the score they wanted on top and didn't bother to change it before scoring.
Gotta love it when one announcer is clearly not paying attention to what the other is saying and goes "alright alright" when they finish and starts talking about what they wanna talk about.
I disagree. Prince's combos were original and breathtaking. Perhaps not the most difficult ones, but they blew everyone's mind. Even in the last one, pulling the opponent back from a fall throwing a fan?! Scores aren't just about technical ability (which he surely doesn't lack), but also innovation and emotion.
I love this game more and more everytimes i see a vidéos like this, i love the challenge of a tournament like that because we have to face the best gamer of the years!!
People that came later have completely lost the concept of what a super smash bros was all about. The combos and the physics was what made Super Smash Bros so special.

Never rewinded a video more in my LIFE.
Facts
Watching Isai go from serious to smile at 6:55 makes my heart smile'
"Prince sits on the chair"
- Judges " OMFG let's give him a perfect score !!"
I mean...my God. That was amazing. Jesus damage boost?
Hopefully one year they'll let Clubba be a judge. The dude knows more than the non 64 judges.
47:38
That's definitely my favorite combo out of all the contests
Prince got the first and second ever perfect scores in the same contest... Prince needs to just be renamed God already
You guys acting like the crowd wasn't chanting for 10s after that yoshi shell combo
@@solamanhuq7780 The crowd was chanting for 10's the entire contest
@@gunslinger9786 I'm talking about the commentors. The crowd new where it was at.
The way the smile spreads across Isai's face at the 6:50 combo warms my heart
Every year i look forward to more prince combos. He's insane.
64 is the closest we'll ever get to a perfect-for-combos smash.
6:58 dude Esam wasn't even watching for most of the combo & still game him a 10
He wasn’t looking at the parts he’s already seen he saw near the end.
The excitement of competitive Smash is infectious.
Always looking forward to Prince's combos. He's a combo wizard.
I always look forward to these, and I wish more games had this kind of category
Prince combo's
20:10
47:38
56:28
you watch this..and you see all the fails...but as soon as they land the final combo its AMAZING
I love these so much!
Even more hype is playing Tacos combo at 6:49 at .25 speed in CZcams
47:38 this is just some next level shit
yea that sets the bar high for future perfect scores i think.
Hands down the best combo. Ever. Even Kort's RNG-reliant one wouldn't have topped this even if successful.
I think the combos have gotten good enough and hype enough that they could do just one round with more players
Holy shit these combos are so much better than last year. Prince had no competition but now i feel like he's gotta step it up.
If I was any contestant other than prince I wouldn't be coming back next year. Guy's hard enough to beat without having the judges give him freebies.
7:34 “The combo wasn’t difficult”
1:07:05 “The combo doesn’t have to be difficult”
._. ok then
Mikey lmao it really be like that sometimes tho
look hard af like even when he throw the fan down it has to be at a certain time to make the guy bounce back.
"Doesn't have to be the "most" difficult." As he said in the video. Don't twist words around man. He also stated it had to be enough to get people out of their seats, which shouldn't be the best thing in the world.
@@mikefloww so are you
Timothy Parham what about the first one?
Prince's combos are always so hype!
I love seeing Isai getting so happy and smiling so much
You can literally watch boom and Isai change their scores at 39:55 because of what the other judges gave. This scoring system blows
I watched the clip where they scored and it's just that the first paper wasn't the score they were going for. They never changed the order of the cards in till the end so what may have happened was that they didn't have the score they wanted on top and didn't bother to change it before scoring.
You might be right, but it could just be the card that they wanted was not on the top and they shuffled the cards to find it
7:00 i think Esam is trying to turn into a titan
Gotta love it when one announcer is clearly not paying attention to what the other is saying and goes "alright alright" when they finish and starts talking about what they wanna talk about.
all of these combos have been the work of an Enemy: Stand.
I feel like if any of them did the exact same combos as prince the would get a lower score
For real. I believe Prince was overscored for that incomplete combo, his scores should have been closer to korts, 7s maybe an 8.
i see some butthurts right here xd
@@mrknarf4438 still, he shouldnt get 9s for an incompleted combo.
@@mrknarf4438 the whole point of a *combo* competition is *actually completing a combo* any incompleted combos should be a 0 imo
6:59 That laugh sounds like the sound effect when you skip the dialogue messages in sm64
I love this game more and more everytimes i see a vidéos like this, i love the challenge of a tournament like that because we have to face the best gamer of the years!!

PRINCE IS A ACTUALLY A GOD
Prince gave us a live example of "if you're going to do something, you gotta do it in style"
the moment of the year i'm waiting for
why I love smash
64 is basically a combo game
Melee is competitive
Brawl is broken fun
Smash4 is a pretty well balanced game if you ban beyo
All Smash games have broken fun in them. Thats not really a distinction for Brawl
Tr4sh has rage and 1 good character, even if you do ban her it's still heavily match up dependent
Bayo isn't completely broken anymore, learn to Smash DI.
Katrin G who are you, leo?
People that came later have completely lost the concept of what a super smash bros was all about. The combos and the physics was what made Super Smash Bros so special.
They should have just let him finish the combo
I keep going to 47:38 just to watch everybody's individual reactions. Absolute madman
I was waiting for this
Prince will go undefeated till 2020
Dam those are Dope combos from Prince nice job! Let's go PRINCE🇯🇵
Indeed!
I didnt think i’d watch this whole thing
But after watching the tetris championship and those first combos and not knowing much about how to play these games, im hooked, i would love to see this live or on tv
OWO, I've been waiting for this since last years
I honestly thought, as cool as the item tricks were they barely lasted any time and didn't seem nearly as hard to set up as some of the others were.
The Pikachu combo really *BLEW* our minds! 😁
That Second person combo tho, The Slow Mo...So Freakin Cool XD
Dont get me wrong prince has some really nice combos but the judges are really riding on him
He deserves it. He's fucking dope man.
