I always smile when I get the email notification that you guys have released another video. Superb review, what a great sound the Zephyr makes. Nice to see Mr Scott flying something harder than a trainer. You would be amazed how similar this plane is to the Multiplex Blizzard.
Hello to Josh & Josh! Love the non-sponsored episode. Very well done with the opinions and frank review. You guys make a great pair up to bring a fresh and inspiring review approach unlike others I have seen. I like the little blooper bit at the end...and may I suggest having one or two small little bloopers at the end...nice way to put icing on a cake! Cheers guys and all involved in bringing to us great RC vids!
Having picked up a Zephyr V-70 last week and done a few flights I thought I'd share some feedback... I picked up a couple of Turnigy 3600 3cells with the plane and after a bit of rearranging the location of the ESC and the AR400 I'm using, the battery fits snugly without issue. The quality is better than most HK planes; the motor, esc and servos are good quality. The fuselage is stiff yet it'll flex without snapping. I get 7-8mins per flight despite a fair bit of throttle used. Static thrust is 7-800g. Plane weight with the 3600 3s is 1109g. While the plane is rigid, it does flex a lot in strong winds (25mph+) and I would recommend no more than 10-15mph winds as over that it's a real handful. There has been two times where the plane developed a severe wing oscillation at high speed which I'm pretty sure would have popped the wing off had I not have taped it on. Overall a great, good fun plane at a good price. But due to it's low speed stall characteristics it's not a trainer IMO. Hand-launching and landing can be tricky.
very good vid guys, I have one of this durafly zephyr but with a 22,2v 6cell batery and a alloy dps 68mm edf unit with 2600kv motor, and is absolutely amazing!!!
Well another great episode guys, informative, fun, honest review, I always look forward to your show and with talents like yours I'm surprised you don't have sponsors queueing to be a part of flitetest shows...
I feel the lack of sponsors will further your excellence, combined with stonecap (sorry if i spelled it wrong) and the free range to do so what you must within you videos, equals amazing resultants, take your time gentlemen, you both are icons and the production company helping/sponsoring are at another level then anybody in this hobby, I hope the best, take care guys.
Now we can realy start to se the evolving of josh....from the first episode to this one and the few last ones i can realy see the evolving from a guy who's never flown before to a guy flying like a pro :) its nice :)
This is one of the best edf plane! I have already bought it. Waiting for delivery. :) Awesome model! Thank you guys for the review. Best wishes from Russia.
I have one of these and love it. My only issue is the speed controller that came with it is too small. I am going to post an in depth on flitetest site soon.
I had a test fly the other day with my zephyr. Had alittle too much nose weight, but had a decent fly. Had about 7 1/2 minutes with the throttle being used carefully. Took 40 grams away, from the nose, and flies better. Love the noise, i will post a video shortly.
You might think that's a good speed for a glider...and for an ARF, EDF kinda thing it's good... But I remember a day I saw an old man with a 12" span MAHOGANY glider attempting to set a record; he was at 90-100mph with no launch system and no motor of any kind. Had I not seen it with my own eyes, I never would have believed it!
You guys should make a v tail plane maybe for the swappable series. It would be awsome. Have like a electric duct fan or a push or pull model. I would definitely buy that if you guys made it.
I'm running stock esc with a turnigy 3600mah 50c in mine didn't add any weight at all balanced perfect and flies very nice with the thrust tube mod I did to it
Great review! The fan sounds awesome! Is there any chance that flaps can be added to improve low speed performance for landings or simply to slow it down a bit? Is there enough room inboard the ailerons for that modification?
Hi Josh, I can see you are using a Dx8. I have this same transmitter, but I don't know how to setup the v tail mixing as it says in the manual. Can you post a video showing how to setup the transmitter? Thank you. I always learn a lot from your videos.
Thank you flitetest for doing a honest review and not saying what hk wants! But please don't call it hotliner only glass/carbon fiber models with a few kw of power deserves that name :D
What's the weight of the washers used to balance the CG? Viewers, how much weight did you use for CG balance when using the battery specified by Durafly?
great review as always. can you please review the FPVRaptor? i have one and i love it but would love to see you guys reviewing it. its, as its name states, a FPV plane and could be the 'advanced' or something FPV video as you guys have 'intermediate' FPV and stuff. thanks
I juuuuust have to ask one thing....i think this is the video that you put a 4s in...I fly alot and build my own RTH/ autonomous dones....I have a Zephyr V70 myself and thought back on your review of the Zephyr, with you adding that 4s to it...when the stock zephyr has ESC and motor provisioned for 3s......how did you not blow the ESC or melt the windings on the power plant by over amping the stock 50 amp esc..with that 4s?
Your best work, so far! Keep it up guys. This is what you should be doing. Point out strengths, weaknesses, shortcoming, propaganda, bad instructions , etc. and the greatness, too. Even if it's just a hobby!!! Beautiful looking and sounding plane. I want one but now know better what to expect/suspect... ;p) Cheers!
I have a SPEKTRUM DX8 ,I managed to sort the problem out but when i plugged everything in and tried the controls, the rudder mix was wrong and i did plenty head scratching trying to figure out how to reverse the controls, because if i reversed the L/R elevator, they would move the wrong way and the rudder kept the same way,I pressed a button when the transmitter slipped but i don't know what i pressed :-/ because i don't think rudder was in the options to reverse, only elevator.
Hey guy's no problem with running larger batteries...my advice stay with 3S and move up to 3300/4000 sized Lipos. How, there's a trick..secure the ESC to the inside of the removable canopy, now you should have enough room. Want more room...then get an HK Zippy Compact Lipo in what ever size you desire. Lot's of people have already done this...read about it on RCgroups in the Zephyr thread.
I was thinking of getting this v70 and your review just help HK gain a new customer. Is it using XT-60 connectors? This a/c can fly with 2200mAh, 3S, 35C right? Cos I am using this for my Skysurfer and T380 Quad now. Anyway, awesome review guys. Your review is quite comprehensive. You talk about the high-low speed characteristics of the a/c which is very helpful. Look forward to more great reviews from you guys.
Zephyr vs. Dynamic-S Thanks for all the reviews guys. Now that you've tested both the Zephyr and Dynamic-S, which one do you like the best, or would recommend most? I like them both, but can't make up my mind on which to get. Thanks and keep up the good work. Cheers! P.S. Hope you find a sponsor.
How much battery life were you getting from that 2200mah? EDF jets are generally get pretty awful flight times and my AXN Clouds Fly can stay in the air for 40 minutes from a same size battery so I don't know whether that amazing noise is really worth it or not.
yes! First view! And this plane is just awsome!!! I was waiting for this...I saw it in the other room were the scratch builds are from....well guys, I like this kind of new format. I have to grab a new episode for tomorrow and I don't know what to do! Give me an idea...did Joab cut his hair? Regards guys from Flitetest Argentina
I have a 2250mah,65c, 3s will that work? Is this to big of a step for a second plane? I have mastered the Bixler1. I want one! secondly sorry bout the unsponsored thing. If it makes a difference I have watched flite test for two months and just now subscribed. You guys got me into flying after multiple crashes with S%%% planes. Thanx.
Good review.. but you can not have tried hard enought on the batteries. I fit "easely" the 3300mah nanotech battery in mine. And after a slight modiification i also stuffed an Eagletree 100A logger in it. The only unit that is mounted outside the cockpit is the airspeed sensor.
I always smile when I get the email notification that you guys have released another video. Superb review, what a great sound the Zephyr makes. Nice to see Mr Scott flying something harder than a trainer. You would be amazed how similar this plane is to the Multiplex Blizzard.
My favourite thing about this plane - love the sound and love flying it!
There is a list with descriptions of our production gear on our forum under the thread "Video Production Q&A".
The shoulder rig is a Redrock Micro.
wow, that's the nicest EDF sound i've heard.
Finally an unbiased episode... Love it. I did not know if to go for a dynamic or a zeph ... Now I made up my mind.
So much better in just about every way. Well done team. Let's hope you find the budget to keep producing these more open and honest reviews.
Hello to Josh & Josh! Love the non-sponsored episode. Very well done with the opinions and frank review. Great video. I liked your honesty in the video and I think it feels a lot more relaxed than it did before. I like what you are up to and keep it up!
Having picked up a Zephyr V-70 last week and done a few flights I thought I'd share some feedback...

Awesome episode! Liked how genuine your review was
Awesome review and flight! You guys are awesome !
very good vid guys, I have one of this durafly zephyr but with a 22,2v 6cell batery and a alloy dps 68mm edf unit with 2600kv motor, and is absolutely amazing!!!
it just makes my day when you guys upload a video :)
guys, i can use 4S on stock motor?
Well another great episode guys, informative, fun, honest review,

that's very nice plane guys love the sound of the edf motor nice one guys
Now we can realy start to se the evolving of josh....from the first episode to this one and the few last ones i can realy see the evolving from a guy who's never flown before to a guy flying like a pro :) its nice :)
Nice plane. Sounds good handles good built tough.
Enjoyed watching that....great bit of kit.
Tempted to buy one just because of the awesome noise it makes!
Thanks for the great explanation!
Big fan here. Keep up the good work!
Great job! That's why I'm a subscriber. Sweet plane, EDF's always have a 'sound' but this thing is pretty awesome.
Also I've clocked mine at 108mph on 4s with a 4 blade high speed fan. Love my zephyr
I had a test fly the other day with my zephyr. Had alittle too much nose weight, but had a decent fly. Had about 7 1/2 minutes with the throttle being used carefully. Took 40 grams away, from the nose, and flies better. Love the noise, i will post a video shortly.
You mix in a Vtail in your transmitter - 2 servos on the tail area (rudder /elev chan in RX ) and your TX does the rest.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!! no sponsors a straight no bs review
This is great non bias footage. This is what im talkin bout
Love your vids guys.
You might think that's a good speed for a glider...and for an ARF, EDF kinda thing it's good...

Terrific Video...Nice airplane, (motor sounded rough though)... That said, I agree, Bring David Back! He's a great addition to FliteTest!
It's up to us now. If you want something reviewed, call up the company and tell them to give FliteTest a shout.
Looks like a fun plane.
You guys should make a v tail plane maybe for the swappable series. It would be awsome. Have like a electric duct fan or a push or pull model. I would definitely buy that if you guys made it.
I would like to see this scaled up for manned flight.
Great job Josh. I want one. Bring it in USA warehouse HK!!!
You guys are GREAT!!!!
amazingly fast flyer. i want that sound coming out of my car's exhaust!!!
That. Sounds. Awesome.
+StarlightVisual It is truly epic in person. Beastly...
BTW the new format rocks, with Josh acting less dumb- good job!
Yep.
Great review&flight guys wow i never knew that 12:46 I throught you guys where by hobbyking?
That planes sounds great! I very well may buy this one in 2014.
its awesome, the sound of EDF its like real one, nice! iloveit!
That thing sounds badass
Nice one again. I never actually liked this model but I would consider buying one now :)
that sounds great!
I'm running stock esc with a turnigy 3600mah 50c in mine didn't add any weight at all balanced perfect and flies very nice with the thrust tube mod I did to it
jrockmk8 I'm looking at buying one very soon what's a thrust tube 😊
OMG I never noticed the writing!! Man I'm going to need Thomas to confirm this LOL
You guys are nuts if you don't review the Bixler 2! Its freaking dedicated to you guys!
suggestion.... please retest speed and sound eith coffee cup as tube at exhaust see if it improves
Josh and Josh are back! Now for a sponsorship. Lets see what we can all do... how much does it cost to sponsor an episode?
Great review! The fan sounds awesome!
Is there any chance that flaps can be added to improve low speed performance for landings or simply to slow it down a bit? Is there enough room inboard the ailerons for that modification?
Can you guys make a video that does a side by side comparison between Zephyr V-70 and Dynamic S? Or some fun drag race or air race.
Thanks
Just ordered this plane, just because of this review. I saw it, I wanted it :-)
wonder how this would do slope soaring with a decent wind... the EDF would be fun kicker!
i would buy that just for that awsome sound. that shit is to die for!!!
I just prshaced one. any tips on the build? Planning on using zipppy compact 3300 mah 60C 3S
No way! That sounds sick! Has anyone tried a CS 10 blade on it? Not that it needs it, of course!
What's the weight of the washers used to balance the CG?
Viewers, how much weight did you use for CG balance when using the battery specified by Durafly?
Excellent Review, yours are pro,
I've looked where here can't find one for sale anywhere. Man I want one
hey guys love the video's. Just wondering what shoulder rig does the camera guy use. muchly appreciated
can i ask, if you have done a full throttle nose dive and hard pull out, how did the wings behave?
Is this on the stock fan?? It sounds AWESOME!!!
does the 2250 nano tech fit nicely? I bought the one they recommend and it hardly fits
What characteristics on that particular plane is making it howl and sound like a jet? Badass...
great review as always. can you please review the FPVRaptor? i have one and i love it but would love to see you guys reviewing it. its, as its name states, a FPV plane and could be the 'advanced' or something FPV video as you guys have 'intermediate' FPV and stuff. thanks

Your best work, so far! Keep it up guys. This is what you should be doing. Point out strengths, weaknesses, shortcoming, propaganda, bad instructions , etc. and the greatness, too. Even if it's just a hobby!!! Beautiful looking and sounding plane. I want one but now know better what to expect/suspect... ;p) Cheers!
Fantastic.
Do you use the stock 55A Esc for 4S battery? do you use 4S-2200? Is it still a bit tail heavy for a 4S-2200 ?
I have a SPEKTRUM DX8 ,I managed to sort the problem out but when i plugged everything in and tried the controls, the rudder mix was wrong and i did plenty head scratching trying to figure out how to reverse the controls, because if i reversed the L/R elevator, they would move the wrong way and the rudder kept the same way,I pressed a button when the transmitter slipped but i don't know what i pressed :-/ because i don't think rudder was in the options to reverse, only elevator.
Can you guys make a review about the"axn floater jet"? It's a 4/6 ch glider like the bixler, just faster and more acrobatic ;)
Hey guy's no problem with running larger batteries...my advice stay with 3S and move up to 3300/4000 sized Lipos. Do they still make these and where can you purchase one????? My old one is toast but would love a new one!~ Thanks
David does say it best :D thats awesome and funny!! Haha keep it up guys
Yes it does.
the bix3 is awsome
Now it's time for a bixler 2 review
Zephyr vs. Dynamic-S
Thanks for all the reviews guys. Now that you've tested both the Zephyr and Dynamic-S, which one do you like the best, or would recommend most?
I like them both, but can't make up my mind on which to get.

This thing would be pretty kick ass for FPV I imagine.
Can this be hooked up to a Turnigy 9x? Or will that not work with the V-tail rudder?
yes!
Nice video.. How much flight time ?
what is the difference betwen foam and super compressed EPO foam?
I have a 2250mah,65c, 3s will that work? Is this to big of a step for a second plane? I have mastered the Bixler1. I want one! secondly sorry bout the unsponsored thing. If it makes a difference I have watched flite test for two months and just now subscribed. You guys got me into flying after multiple crashes with S%%% planes. Thanx.
hi guys can anyone tell me if the stock motor on this zephyr can take up 4s batteries?
I used a 4000mah 3s 30c turnigy lipo and a 3000mah 4s 30c, tight but fits.
Can i make a suggestions guys...... Can we have a Josh & Josh score out of 10 on the products you review. Good job by the way :)
Good review.. but you can not have tried hard enought on the batteries. I fit "easely" the 3300mah nanotech battery in mine. And after a slight modiification i also stuffed an Eagletree 100A logger in it. The only unit that is mounted outside the cockpit is the airspeed sensor.
