I wish they'd try making a portable controller with flat analogue sticks like on the 3ds. You obviously wouldn't use them for competitive FPS games, but I think it would be more than good enough for a bit of 3d emulation or mobile gaming.
I feel like a full sized controller with circle-pad inspired thumbsticks could actually be quite comfortable for shooters tbh
Completely agree. 3DS style sliders would have been perfect for this controller
YES!!! I love the circle pads, they could easily put buttons in back of the controller for L3 and R3 mapping. These Switch Joysticks just make the controller not portable...
Now I want a full controller with real Circle Pads..
Hear me out, you can even attach it to a phone and turn your phone into a 3ds itself.

I’d say probably the d-pad is smaller due to inner size constraints, since they put in both vibration and motion controls so there would be less room inside the already compact frame

The official Nintendo pro controllers seem to be sold out and/or cost an arm and a leg, so this seems like a good alternative for playing with friends/family on a mostly occasional use basis.
I think this is the main target market for it, not as a primary controller (there are quite a few options including first party from Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo) but as an affordable secondary device.
If it works well for the Switch (including motion control and rumble) then it seems like a pretty good deal. Not too bad if/when my kid destroys it either! Much cheaper than joycons.
Maybe a bit uncomfortable for longer sessions due to the shape and size if you have bigger hands, but perhaps perfect for kids.
I have one for my switch lite! I love it! Holding the switch all the time is a little too much since i have smaller hands so a tiny controller is way nicer.
Hi mate, you forgot to point that those controllers have gyro, rumble and NFC, that is very hard to get at this price point and make a perfect 2nd controller for Switch on budget.
Hi - I was looking at the controller from a retro gaming perspective, and how suitable it would be for that, and in particular for mobile use. That's why I didn't cover Switch specific features, although I did make mention of the Switch towards the end of the video, but as I mentioned, I didn't really see the point of using something like this with a Switch Lite. I've only recently got a (secondhand) Switch Lite, so maybe I'm missing something!

The controller seems great for kid hands and for an option that probably won't start drifting.
I bought this because it fits in the pocket in the back of the steam deck case, I can bring it with me so when I plug my steam deck into the tv in a hotel or whatever I can still game. Other than for more simulation-style racing games (no analog trigger) I can play just about any game on it pretty well. It's also nice to have a second controller in case my wife wants to game with me.
Any compatibility issues with Steam Deck? I've been considering one of these for my travelling set up.
@@kamikazezebra No issues, if you put the controller in switch mode you can even use the gyro.
I brought it for emulator in my cars stereo screen as easier to store in arm rest or glove box without taking up space, wondering if I should of got zero 2 or micro thou
If 8BitDo could create a middleman controller between the lite and lite 2 that has the design of the Lite (super flat, trigger buttons in line with shoulder buttons) and instead of D-pads for sticks, they use something similar to the sliding Nintendo 3DS analog stick, or even a touch pad, then it'd be PERFECT. Still ridiculously flat and portable, but with no parts sticking up to catch on things as you slide it into your pocket.
Lite users will buy it because of its cuteness and its color. It just complements the Switch Lite aesthetically. The cute factor is very, very important for modern consumers.
Mednafen got an Update for SEGA Saturn on PC. The 8Bitdo M30 Bluetooth Controller works well with the 8Bitdo Orange Dongle.
I also want to portable and I prefer the analog stick rather than dpad button. This is actually a good choice for me.
I have a steam deck and thinking about having this to improve 2 players co-op experience. I have 3 dualshock 4 and a snes bluetooth but it seems too big for carry around!
I plan on sending a drawing of a Lite 3 controller with Circle Pads in lieu of Joysticks to 8bitdo. My 3DS XL is going on 10 years old with quite a few games of Smash and Mario Kart on it, and I've never encountered any drift...
They could easily put buttons behind the controller to map L3 and R3 for first person shooters (run and melee).
I'm very interested in this controller because I've gotten used to play smash portably, and now I can't go back to a GameCube controller so comfortably. I actually find the size of the Lite 1 perfect, and its similarities to the Lite 2 ensure that I'll have the form factor and the analog sticks I've grown accustomed to.
I'm thinking about getting one of these to use on my 4th gen fire 7 tablet.
I bought it for my 13 inch laptop. It can go in the laptop bag, a normal controller is far too big. I didn't buy it for a phone or ipad or switch. It's aimed at me, sorta. I could still improve the design a lot but it's closest thing to what I want out there.
Im still choosing whether i'll buy the SN30pro or lite 2. Because for me, they have complete buttons for playstation emulator.

As for the audience for the Lite 2, maybe I can shed some ligh (at least in my case):
I found myself looking for EXACTLY that controller. I was looking for something "cheap" but still qualitatively good, which has Bluetooth. The Lite 2 has that, as the other controllers that are larger are also more expensive (granted, the SN30 is only 10 bugs more, but still). It also has great battey time (2 hours charge, 10 hours play, that's not bad).
I use it to play games on my kids Amazon Fire 8 (hence it needed to have BT). For now. In time, I want to show my kid one or the other game, so he can play too. Bringing me to my next point.
The Lite 2 fits smaller but also larger hands, so kids as well as adults can play with it. The Micro as well as the Zero 2 are way too small. With them, maybe my kid could have played. But I? Not likely, at least not comfortably.
So there is a user base for the Lite 2, and also if it's not suited optimally for travelling, it makes a great first game pad. For easy gaming, on a small screen, for not much money, you get a great game pad. And for the foreseeable future this will the pad that I and my kid will play with on the Fire 8 (by the way, hooking it up to the Fire 8 per BT was as easy as it gets).

I just ordered a pair of these for the portability - I can't find a good case, but you can make your own case. The extra thickness still isn't too much to fit in a pocket, maybe even with two of them inverted back-to-back so the triggers don't touch
I still hope there will be a more portable Lite 3 or something. Ideally instead of adding these protrusions they should have kept the inline triggers from the original design and just added sliding sticks like the PSP or Vita so it could stay phone case thickness

I just ordered for my 7 yr old daughter. I think it will fit nicely in her hand compared to a ps4 controller we have connected to the PC. I know they don’t officially support PC and iOS but I’ve seen that users have had success connecting it to ios16 and PC using some software (dunno what it is offhand). Let’s see how it turns out.

@@markasscop it is going well so far. We are playing games on Yuzu, so no additional software is needed and rumble (vibration) works in Switch mode on controller. Switching to D input works with PC using Xinput to emulate a XBox controller. I haven’t tested on iOS, but it should work according to other Reddit users as long as you have the latest OS. 👍👍
Who is it for? I chose it for my 3 year old for PC games over other controllers because of the size being perfect for small hands. And it's got gyro!
How is this controller compares to an x x-input controller? Does it get recognised automatically on controller supported apps on the phone, or do you have to map it each time? (Games like dead trigger 2, dead cells, scourge bringer, dead by daylight..)
I use it with the 8bitdo adapter and it works on EVERYTHING that has an usb input.
Im just get it to play on my phone. On the go. Im trying to star play on emulators. Ill see if it was a good idea or not. Cause the sticks are a little bulky
I don't have enough space for my 8bitdo pro 2 in my bag to carry around everywhere, and my zero 2 has only the most rudimentary functionality, so the lite 2 really fits perfectly in this niche. I wouldn't use it in front of my TV, but I wouldn't be lugging my pro 2 to whip out on a lunch break.

I'm planning to buy this controller to play PS2 games on my phone using AetherSX2. Mind if I ask if the controller is compatible with that emulator?
As long as the emulator accepts dinput, it will work.

Yes, I agree with your assessment that the Lite 2 doesn’t know its audience. I think it may be a better 2nd-player controller for the Nintendo Switch for local multiplayer, for things like Mario Kart, if Joy-Cons are too expensive, or cramped when held, but that’s about it.
Great realistic and honest review. This controller is probably for little kids travelling.

Use case - I have little kids (3 and 6 years old). Bought for their small hands. Had 2 SNES controllers but those don’t have sticks.
I'd buy it as a portable controller for Retroarch and other Retro emulators on iPhone. Nobody needs a special travel bag for it. Just throw it in your pocket.
the lite is fine for playing golden sun mostly.
Just got it for about 20usd, with the zero 2 for 13usd.
Does 8bitdo lite 2 have motion control?
It lists 'motion sensor' on the sales page under 'Special Features', along with vibration. Great if you are using it with a Switch, but my focus was on retro gaming, which is why I didn't mention it (although I probably should have!).

Yeah I absolutely don't understand this. If its suppose to be ultraportable, they should keep the shoulder buttons as it was on Lite 1 and change Dpads for the circle pads form 3DS. I would buy bunch of these gamepad, because that's is the perfect sweet spot for ultraportable.

I purchased that joystick but I couldn't make it work on MacOS, so I asked my money back to Amazon. It seems nice but it's not intuitive to use 👎🏼 and I'm not only talking about the different button combination to press, I tried them all and OpenEmu did not recognise the device. Just useless. The Amazon customer service said a lot of people had the same problem and on the Internet I found more people with the same disappointment. Found some "solutions" too but none of em worked. Don't waste your money and find something intuitive. The box says it's compatible with MacOS (misleading advertising) but the instructions don't tell you a shit about how to achieve it and the emulators don't receive it's inputs.
I'd probably buy it for my kids. A smaller controller that fit their hands better.

Use an 8bitdo adapter and it will work on literally any console or computer that has an usb port.
Use case, 3rd world country you buy a used switch lite with f'd up controllers!! I will not pick this one up due to your same reasons, no case and thicker than the lite 1, I love my lite 1, it is godsend when on a plane or a bus!
