- Driving a Motorhome for the first time! (Camper driving Tips for newbies and beginners)
I drove our motorhome for the first time- which is the first time I've driven ANY of our motorhomes on an actual road.
And we just happened to be in France, in a UK motorhome... driving on the wrong side of the road!
We share tips for driving a motorhome or camper in France and Europe, as well as tips for newbies to motorhomes who have never driven one before (like me!)
If you're nervous about driving a motorhome in UK, France, Europe or USA- this video will hopefully help and show you it's not as bad as it seems!
Good luck.

Well done Kat, you did a great job, easier next time!!! Love your banter between you too x look forward to your next video xx
Thank you Julie.
Great to watch as I’m nervous about having a go at driving 👍
Thank you for that. I’m driving our V Line camper at 2000 revs and frequently 2500+! 😲
I will be modifying this from now on! 🤗
Love you channel btw.
Thanks Shirley. Be kind to your lovely camper (we almost bought a V line!! :) )
Well done Kat, not easy driving a Motorhome at the best of times especially when it’s on the wrong side of the road!
More excuses for bad driving when it's on the wrong side!!!! :)
Hi your blogs are amazing there so informative and very humorous too which makes them so very watchable many thanks
Thank you Leslie- that's very kind of you. Feel free to check out our website at wandering-bird.com for free checklists and guides to help you. :)
Excellent. Knew you were a good driver. Love the banter between you two. Have a great time.
Thanks Malcolm. :)
A woman driving a motorhome !!!!Glad the roads were quiet :-) seriously though well done, dont think my wife would ever atempt driving one ! Excellent video as always
Tell her it's not so bad! And if she ever needs to drive it she'll feel better having had a go in calm conditions!! :)
Well done the pair of you! Lol. No shouting so it was a good first....yay.
Well... we just edited those parts out! It was actually a 7 hour drive....!! 😂🙃
getting our first van in a week or so, so this was very reassuring. We already do the "motor home" game, made us laugh. My wife lived very near Razes too. We are down Carcassonne way these days, a beautiful area to tour if you are looking for ideas.
It helps to listen!
I did a Motorhome driving course with the caravan and Motorhome club , worth every penny 😀👍🏻
I think that would be a great idea!
Thank you - just bought a motorhome - not sure whether not having a companion driver is to my advantage or disadvantage.
Well done u finely got their in the end that means now hubby can b a back seat driver now while u do all the driving .kev
I don't think either of us wants that... but at least I can drive if I need to!!
I find the van a lot easier than our car in a few ways. With those huge mirrors and a reversing camera you can see the rear wheels and rear bumper, much easier than our car. The leap from car to van is a lot smaller than from bike to car too, as you know.
That's very true- and excellent points!
We have a 7.4m auto and tow a car trailer with a Skoda Fabia Estate or Peugeot 108 no trouble. Well done you. Rear air suspension bliss.
nice! And thank you! ;)
My tip would be to use your door mirrors a lot , you can keep the van in between the lines until you get used to where you are sitting on the road , then click it just becomes natural 😉 learn to trust what you see in your door mirrors , they are your two best friends 😉
Great advice- thanks for sharing that Simon :)
Wandering Bird Adventures , it was the fastest way I learned to drive a left hand drive lorry in the UK , you don’t have time for mistakes that might cost a lot of money , driving right hand drive on the right , hedge rows to your right can give you a proper scare , but using the mirror and keeping close to the verge at least you know you are not pushing on coming traffic over to your left 😉
This will be me in 3 weeks! I'm very excited and a bit nervous but want to share the driving straight away when we get it.
You'll be great! Good luck!!
Riddle me this...the 30 or 20 kmh going through some towns where does it end, I assumed at the town name with a red line through it, there's me doing 20 or 30 whatever the sign said looking in my mirrors to see a huge line of traffic behind me and even cars overtaking me giving me the angry French eye. There is nothing to say its finished or do the French just ignore the 20 and 30 kph zones ????
Sometimes it's not easy to tell! But there should be a sign saying where it ends.... should!
I'm always doing that with the handbrake as my viewers will tell me!
Ha! Easily done. :)
Well done you 🚐👍
Thank you Andy!
No-one here ever waves at me in my Fiat Ducato Westfalia, but the moment i get in my Type 25, i can barely get my hands to the wheel for waving. Miserable lot!
I think it depends what your westfalia looks like from the front. Some vans just look like white vans until it's too late!
@@WanderingBird mines blue! Probably looks like a work van - even customs guys at the port were asking what we had in the back!
Who won the magnetic glasses ?
Ahhhh, you're obviously not in my Facebook group! I announced it in there and on Instagram. Feel free to come join in :)
Wandering Bird Adventures , sorry only do CZcams, don’t have Facebook
My mrs has never driven a millimetre in our van!
Don't be mean- let her have a go!! 😂
Wandering Bird Adventures, I want her to drive! But she won’t even try...🙄
Poor you, you definitely need to lower the seat, your knees are nearly touching the steering wheel.
I know! It was definitely not set up for me!! :)
