- The music of Canada's Timber Timbre is often strange and unsettling. The band, led by Taylor Kirk - a crooner with a deceptively sweet voice - makes spare, evenly paced songs that sound like late-night echoes from a swampy woods. It's the kind of music you'd expect to hear in a David Lynch movie, or in HBO's deeply disturbing series True Detective: dark and unnerving, yet oddly seductive.
It's an eerie, mysterious vibe that's nearly impossible to re-create while playing live in someone's office at 2 o'clock on a Wednesday afternoon. But that's just what Timber Timbre does for a captivated crowd in this Tiny Desk performance.
Taylor Kirk is a man of few words. For this performance, he lets the music do all the talking as the quartet eases its way through three songs from the band's latest album, the smoldering Hot Dreams. The set includes the title track, the truly creepy "Run From Me" ("Run from me, darlin', you better run for your life"), and "Grand Canyon." --ROBIN HILTON

It seems like he takes a love song concept, throws it out the window, walks out, picks it up to wipe the dust off, kicks it in the face, then rolls a cigarette out of it, smokes it and rubs the ashes on his forehead. Great combo of tasteful music and disturbing lyrics, with a slight psycho-ish vibe :D

I can’t believe it’s been almost ten years but this band played my my 4000sq loft, to over 100 of my friend’s it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever witnessed, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place, truly spiritual.
Hands down one of the best bands I've seen live. So maybe I was snorting K in crowd at my favourite local pub and that had something to do with it. But, even the girl with a three foot pony tail constantly waving in my face couldn't ruin my vibes that night.

Nothing 'deceptive' about his voice at all. It's just good old rich, mellow tone, put to work outside of its old cliché . And such poise. Great new sound.
He uses a lot of slapback/echo on his vocals in a lot of their recordings to great effect too....accentuates the darkness and creepiness

First time I heard this band was perusing at a bookstore in Ulm, Germany. I didn’t know how to ask the clerk what song was playing. Luckily I found the record sleeve sitting near the turntable.

Weird. I can't decide, how much i like these guys. I do enjoy the sound... it's SO mellow and slow. It's very calming. Yet when i look at this somber group of dudes, with the main guy inexplicably resembling a calm, cold, methodical killer (for some reason... someone asked what it was that people thought seemed creepy about him. It's something about his steady eyes, his calm demeanor while delivering un-calm lines. It's not that he's going bald!)... i have to ask myself, "Is this what i need, more creepy, unsmiling men, singing about stalking women?" Well, maybe if they're Canadian. We'll see.

Run From Me. Sound like Elvis swallowed Johnny Cash and got hit round the head by Nick Cave. What an amazing band and voice. Stands out so much these days.
