    What this video didn't show was a close up of the final process. It would be nice to see if brush marks were visible after it dried? I have painted my door with four coats using a soft foam roller, and it still leaves streaks and overlap. Possibly the paint drying process is too fast and this might be the cause of a patchy paint job. All I know is that painting a steel door is not as simple as this video may indicate.

      Add Floetrol to the paint; it allows acrylic ants to level better.

      @mugentuner Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah about to say you need an additive like Floetrol to cut the paint and reduce marks

    Wow. He is using Sherwin Williams (Color To Go) sample paint. Which technically is needs to be topcoated by actual paint itself. It says on the can itself.

    Was this a fiberglass or steel door? Was the white color there because the door was new or was that a primer coat? I have a fiberglass door with 10-yr. old sun-bleached gel stain fading so do I have to strip the old stain or can I wash it as directed and paint over it? Are you using oil based or water based paint?

    This is how it is done by a professional folks. Slow, deliberate, calculating and thorough. He just didn't slop it on and spread it out in a hurried manner.

      I've done a lot of painting, but this guy is no pro. He acts as if the door will be on display in the Louvre! Also, I think most people would paint the door while it's hanging on the house.

      Wrong. Professionals stand the doors up, use airless sprayers and are done in minutes. No worry about brush strokes etc.

    I would have sprayed it. And i Would have 10 doors done to his one and it would look 10x better. DONT paint your front door with a brush unless you use oil base paint.

      Ronda, the plastic part that contains the glass must be primed first using a primer that can be used for plastic. When painting doors like this for my customers, I mask the area first around the plastic window frame and then use Rust-Oleum spray primer to paint the plastic before applying paint.

      No. A good exterior paint is it’s own sealer. Besides, exterior spar urathene is oil based and will change the color.

    roller?

    • @Slowhand871
      @Slowhand871 Před 5 lety +2

      Foam roller. I would suggest practicing with it first as it is sort of slippery loaded with paint but soon smooths out.
      A 4-6" foam roller gives a great bristle free finish.

      roll then backbrush while wet following the direction of the stiles.

    • @joeygarner6333
      @joeygarner6333 Před 3 lety

      Have it sprayed in oil based paint if you want it to be its best you can definitely roll it foam roller but like the other person said play with it first or you will leave lines all over it. On doors better to have pro apply the finish. If you want it to look its best. In my opinon.

      What they were using is a Sherwin-Williams Color To Go......not something I would recommend for a final coat on an interior or exterior door. Try something like the fairly new Sherwin-Williams SnapDry or Solo!
