  • It is certain, in any case, that ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have. -James Baldwin
James Arthur Baldwin (August 2, 1924 - December 1, 1987) was an American writer. He garnered acclaim for his work across several forms, including essays, novels, plays, and poems. His first novel, Go Tell It on the Mountain, was published in 1953; decades later, Time magazine included the novel on its list of the 100 best English-language novels released from 1923 to 2005. His first essay collection, Notes of a Native Son, was published in 1955.
By the spring of 1963, the mainstream press began to recognize Baldwin's incisive analysis of white racism and his eloquent descriptions of the Negro's pain and frustration. In fact, Time featured Baldwin on the cover of its May 17, 1963, issue. "There is not another writer", said Time, "who expresses with such poignancy and abrasiveness the dark realities of the racial ferment in North and South."

James Baldwin is one of the most sincere, intelligent and thought-provoking person I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. I wish I was old enough to have known him personally.

Thank you for sharing. James Balwin was a literary genius with his own point of view and the masterful ability to articulate that view to anyone willing to listen. He would have made a great debater.

I envy Baldwin's ability to articulate his and our reality with such ease of clarity and incision. He's precise in his choice of words and deliberate in his phraseology, which makes his appraisal poignant and unsettling for the moral monster but grants a sense of assurance and foresight to those within our community. We bear the obligation to do better and better in his name and all of his generation and those who came before him. Baldwin articulates the hell from whence we've come. It's our burden to understand that hell so that we do not become subdued by it or participants in its formation and preservation. Point of View Tv, you've given us a treasure.

Thank you for sharing. James Balwin was very insightful person. His travels abroad, his humble beginnings and his ability to articulate what the common person felt and went through in the struggle was one of his many gifts. When he says America has to face that question, He wants America to really see what she is doing to its people.
