Incredible video. Dyson quoted £100 to fix the trigger. Got a replacement for under a tenner and used this excellent step by step video and now it works perfectly again. Top stuff!
After replacing the trigger, and the unit still disassembled, the trigger was still in the "pressed" or "pushed in" position and was not popping out. I was concerned that I had done something wrong or that the spring needed to be replaced. Defeated, I put everything back together and when I clicked in the battery, the trigger pops out into the normal position. So putting the battery in engages some mechanism to push the trigger out. Other than that little detail missing, great video! Thanks so much for your efforts!
I got stuck for a minute at the same point, but after checking everything a few times and making sure I did everything correctly, I just assumed it will work at the end...
will never reccomen Dyson evere again! all my friends had similar problem with the trigger and now here I am watching this king's tutorial to save 120 Euros! thanks mate!
Bravo sir! $12 trigger and some new longer torx drivers later and we are back in business! Creators like you help save these vacuums from the landfill. Thank you once again!
I think you may need to update your tools list a smidge. I have a Dyson V10, and it needed a T8 screwdriver, not a T10. Unfortunately because of the very small clearances, I could not use my T8 bit on a driver. The local hardware and car parts stores did not carry T8 screwdrivers, so I ended up ordering one from Amazon, a bit of a frustrating experience. Otherwise, your instructions have been spot on...
Yes, my Dyson V10 animal required a T8 torx as well. Once I got that it worked perfectly. I’d recommend an allen style T8 as well for those hard angles.
Very good video but what a piece of Dyson shite . 40 years in industrial design and this product is unbelievably bad and over priced 😂. I didn’t buy it ; I’m repairing it for a friend .
Thanks for the video, it was exactly what was wrong with mine. For future viewers, besides super gluing the crack, I took it a step further, I glued a gusset (thin piece of plastic .25x.5 of an inch) to the inside part of the crack. The piece of plastic I used actually came from the super glue packaging.
I feelvery grateful for your video! you took me step by step and repaired my V10, and save me lots of grief over having to take the vacuum back to the dealer to repair..... I live in a quite remote part of the country in Ireland. Taking the vacuum to the dealer would have meant hours of driving, or very costly shipping charges, let alone the cost for repair! So thank you for making this world a better and easier place to live.
This is the first time i've tried fixing something electronic myself and I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to put it back together, but the instructions were very easy to follow and i got it fixed in about an hour (I had to wait for the glue to dry). It also saved me about 2 weeks of brooming the house (the technical service I've used in the past takes forever to get things done), so I'm very happy about this
Had to tweak things around a bit as some things have perhaps changed a bit, but this was brilliant. Opened it up, trigger is broken in the exact same place , and now it’s back to working. Brilliant stuff, thanks!!
Thank you for this video mate . The problem with my Dyson was exactly the same as in your case - cracked button in the identical place. I am really grateful for your step-by-step tutorial. I had only one problem by putting the thing back together and it was the small electric socket which you showed already disconnected in the video - I put it back in in the wrong way by sliding it into the whole first but then realized it has to be pushed in from the top.
Hey man, I'm so glad you made this video. I actually send in my V10 for repair and Dyson send it back saying they wouldn't repair it because it's such an old model, they recommend me buying a new one... So thanks for saving me a couple Hundred Euros, even though the whole process of dissembling was not the must fun thing to do
Thanks, your instructions were clear and easy to follow. Only difficult part was threading the wires back throught the little plastic sleeve. I decided to order a new trigger for this repair. My vacuum is working again!
Clear and easy to follow instructions, as others have said getting the two thick wires back through can be fiddly🤬. Mine had exactly the same fault,(typical Dyson quality!), I decided to glue it and then cut a matchstick down it's length and glue this spanning the repaired join, hopefully giving it more strength. Works a treat.👍👍
Thanks a ton man. Took me all of 15 minutes start to finish & saved me a ton of money because of this video. I installed a replacement trigger that I bought from Amazon for $10 & my V10 is good as new.
Awesome! Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was able to fix the broken trigger with some tape because we didn't have super glue. On my V10 model the whole mother board was covered with a transparent silicon type layer, quite difficult to get off. But this felt so cool to disassemble and fix! Thanks!
Thanks for creating this video. It was super helpful to troubleshoot the problem and my trigger was indeed broken on the v10. I tried super glue, but it ended up breaking again the next day. Ordered a replacement part on amazon. Small price to pay given that it will fix the issue. Also, taking the Dyson apart and giving it a thorough clean make the vacuum suction feel like it was brand new again.
Awesome! Thank you from Australia, this was exactly what was wrong with mine. Took it apart whilst watching this over and over and found the broken switch. Ordered a new one and put it back together, and it actually works! 😂
I wish I would have found your video before buying a new V15. My two-year-old V11 frustratingly, repeatedly, kept shutting off while holding the trigger. I was getting a sore hand vacuuming until it wouldn't run at all. Today I repaired the v11 following your instructions. Thank you so much for a great video! Dyson seems to have designed the trigger poorly, making me wonder how many of these vacuums are retired prematurely for the want of a cheap fix.
I don't know. My V-15 hasn't had the problem. I'm assuming Dyson included the upgraded trigger in the newer models after the weak V-11 trigger.@@sabrynconcha3430
Thanks for putting this together, it saved me a load of bother. Had exactly the same crack in the trigger and have been able to fix and get it working again thanks to your helpful video. Greatly appreciated from over in the UK!
Excellent step by step instructions, and as you correctly pointed out, the right tools are necessary. You definitely must have the thin, long T8 star driver. The snap in assortment drivers wont get down into the handle assembly without it. Thanks for the great video
After following the steps of this video, I found that this issue (a cracked trigger) was exactly what was wrong with my Dyson. Thank you for posting this! Based on the number of views and comments on this video, it seems that @Dyson really needs to step up their parts quality game.
This video really saved the day. V10 Animal did require a t8, luckily my local hardware had them. Tight clearances to remove the trigger assembly meant the t8 screwdriver could not get a good angle on two of the screws, but I managed to get them with a tiny allen. Already ordered a metal replacement trigger. We'll see how long the super glue holds up. Thanks so much for posting!
Very helpful video, I was able to fix using these steps. There are couple of tips I learned from fixing this 1. Make sure you are using T8 screwdrivers. I used precison set and they were horrible to work with. Because a lot of screws are lodged DEEEEEP inside holes, precision sets didnt have enough grip and too short. 2. Avoid magnetic screwdriver for the same reason, incredibly frustrating and will be useless 3. You can get away with using torque screwdriver by using hexagon head, but not really recommended. 4. Some screws inside around 1:50 can be rusted. I had to use pliers to unscrew them. 5. The wholething took me about 1.5 hours, but I had to hack a lot of ways to get screws out due to not having proper tools. Knce you have every appropriate tools, this should be shorter. 6. A lot of parts are assembled hard, so tou would need to use your force to disassemble them. Just be careful when you do it 7. Just buy triggers off Amazon, sets of 3 costs less than $10 My 2 cents, but this was an amazing video.
Thank you for this video 😊. Very thorough and although it certainly isn't quick to do, and worse to put everything back, it helped fix the exact problem that you showed in the video 🙌😁.
thank you so much, great video, super helpful! Clearly Dyson has become master of planned obsolescence - and judging by the number of people replacing on their own this switch, Dyson are in no rush to changing their ways; they could have made the replacement process much easier. Nice touch for the outrageous cost of their products.
Just a quick msg to say thanks - very fiddly job and I mixed up some screws when reassembling but works great now and saved one more device from the scrap heap!
Thanks for tips, worked for me step by step ( only difference was the rubber coating over the circuit board on mine. Go easy if yours is the same folks
Great video, helped me fix the devices saving a bunch of cash and/or landfill. Thanks a lot!! As someone else mentioned, I was concerned on the rebuilt the trigger wasn't popping back out, but there's a spring on the battery which puts in back to full functionality. Highly appreciated the advice, thanks!
Great video! Got my Dynos beck up and running within minutes. Didn't have any crazy glue, so I used pieces of straightened paper staplers, and a soldering iron. Gently held the cracked trigger in proper position, placed a the little metal stapler in position so it bridges the crack, and gently pressing down on it with the hot soldering iron. This slightly melts the red plastic of the trigger and embeds the metal stapler into the plastic. working carefully, so as not to change the outer shape and lines of the part - I placed a few staples like this to close the open part of the crack and also the tiny bit where it was still connected, because surely this would now become the weakest point, so I wanted to prevent it from breaking too. One issue I have, is that I am left with tree very long torque screws that I did not see where they go back into the unit. although they clearly did come out from there during my disassembly. Thing works fine now! so maybe over the weekend I'll take it apart again and try to see what those leftover screws are supposed to do.
great tutorial. was very helpful in repairing the V10. I had to buy a T8 torx because I didn't have one at home and a trigger. the total cost is 7 euros vs 95 in service.
Thank you for this video, it really helped! Those inner cables were a right pain, but with patience I changed and upgraded the trigger - works like new!
Thanks for the video, managed to replace the broken trigger on my V11. Just a word of warning...newer manufactured digital bodies have a liberal covering of silicon over the control board, terminals and that little micro connector, luckily this one was a replacement under warranty and I still had the old one in the garage thankfully without any silicon on it

Hi. Would just like to thank you for this video! You saved me 125€ (budget from Dyson to fix this). I sorted this with your video in less than an hour. Unbelievable that such an expensive / premium product has this part so weak!... One detail though, in my case, it was a number 9 torx, not number 10. Thanks again.
Boom! Back in business. Thank you. A few vidoes out there explain this but no nearly as concise. Motherboard on my unit was coated in rubber - used an exacto knive to it cut it away.
Incredible video. Dyson quoted £100 to fix the trigger. Got a replacement for under a tenner and used this excellent step by step video and now it works perfectly again. Top stuff!

I got stuck for a minute at the same point, but after checking everything a few times and making sure I did everything correctly, I just assumed it will work at the end...
I'm so glad I saw your comment before I even attempted repairing my V10, I would've been stuck trying to pop the trigger out!
So smart of Dyson to bury the cheapest, weakest, and most high usage part under 9000 other parts. Thanks for the video! Boom!
Ha ha best comment ever!!
will never reccomen Dyson evere again! all my friends had similar problem with the trigger and now here I am watching this king's tutorial to save 120 Euros! thanks mate!

Arggggg I wish I saw this comment - same issue
Was just going to say the same but I found an 8 in a hardware store and I ordered a replacement trigger on Amazon as the gluing did not work.
Very good video but what a piece of Dyson shite . 40 years in industrial design and this product is unbelievably bad and over priced 😂. I didn’t buy it ; I’m repairing it for a friend .
We love our Dyson best vacuum on the market. Thanks for the information on the repair
Thanks for the video, it was exactly what was wrong with mine. Hey that’s great! I will be posting up random fixes I encounter. Always best to to be self sufficient. Depending on others takes your time and money.
Had to tweak things around a bit as some things have perhaps changed a bit, but this was brilliant. Opened it up, trigger is broken in the exact same place , and now it’s back to working. Brilliant stuff, thanks!!

Thank you! Just followed your guidance and it saved me from buying a new vacuum. Easy instructions to follow, much appreciated!
Excellent video. The pictures were close up so easy to see and the presenter showed steps in a clear precise manner. Thank you!
Thanks, your instructions were clear and easy to follow. Only difficult part was threading the wires back throught the little plastic sleeve. I decided to order a new trigger for this repair. My vacuum is working again!
I did it - thank you so much for the video! I am not mechanically inclined and have zero appliance repair experience. Thanks again!
Super helpful. I had to use a T8 screwdriver but easy enough to switch and fix with your great instructions. Thanks so much.
Thank you!!!!! This is exactly what was wrong with ours. Hubby watched this, took it all apart, glued the trigger…and voilà!
My trigger issue was exactly the same as yours and problem solved thanks to your clear instructions.
Any tips how to put the thick wires back?))
Thanks a ton man. Took me all of 15 minutes start to finish & saved me a ton of money because of this video. I installed a replacement trigger that I bought from Amazon for $10 & my V10 is good as new.
Awesome. Will be bulletproof with the new trigger as well.
I've never been good at these things but I managed to fix it all by myself and I am so proud of it! It is all thanks to your video.🙏
Thank you so much for your video. It was easy to follow & once we had the right screwdrivers it didn't take long to repair our Dyson.
Thanks for a super helpful, clear and to the point video. I hope you feel good about all the vacuums and money you've saved for people
It does feel great. I never imagined how many people had this problem

Another one fixed, thanks to you! Great video. Absolute perfection. No fillers, straight to the point. Well done!
Thank you my man, you saved me a lot of grief and dollars. Keep up the great work.

Hey sorry you just found this video but great that you fixed it! I too wonder how many abandoned Dyson there are from a cheap plastic part.
How is the v15 same problem or no?
I don't know. My V-15 hasn't had the problem. I'm assuming Dyson included the upgraded trigger in the newer models after the weak V-11 trigger.@@sabrynconcha3430

You are truly a hero! That was exactly my problem and thanks to your video it solved and saved me a fortune! Thank you!❤
Thanks for guiding me through this. I bought a new part from eBay for £4. Saved me a big bill. Thank you.
Hey man your welcome. Great vacuum but weak part.
This helped me a lot! Trigger is now as good as new. Thanks mate.
people like this is what youtube was made for good job sir!

Wow thank you! Helped me replace the broken trigger. Wasn’t easy still but did it!
Thank you so much! This helped me fix my Dyson - especially for those steps where you need to bend something or just pull hard. Much appreciated!
Thank you so much.
I had exactly this problem. Even the crack in the trigger was strikingly similar.
Just a quick msg to say thanks - very fiddly job and I mixed up some screws when reassembling but works great now and saved one more device from the scrap heap!
This video also helped me repair my v10 with a broken trigger. Thanks.
Thank you for the video, successfully repaired our v10 with your help.
Thanks for super clear instructions. Even I managed to do the job!
Thanks i fixed the trigger and now it works
This video was exactly what I needed, thank you!
Successfully fixed my V10 following step by step and made my husband think i was a genius. Thank you ! Wish there was a tip button.
Glad you got it fixed with no trouble!
Thank you for this! Worked really fine. I am happy it is working again. Greetings from Germany
Thanks for tips, worked for me step by step ( only difference was the rubber coating over the circuit board on mine. Go easy if yours is the same folks
Thanks so much for your perfect tuto! Just had to wait 5 weeks for the trigger 😉. But now, it's fixed!
Great video. Thank you so much: it's so helpful!
Great video and well explained. Saved me a lot of money. Thank you.
This looks like just what we need. Thank you!!
Brilliant, thanks for this, i just had a screw at the bottom of the trigger assembly then i could remove. Great guide, fixed and she's happy!!

Thanks a lot, saved my day! 😀
Your video saved me a lot of money, thank you 🙏🏻
Many thanks for this video. It worked for me, and as a result, saved me quite a bit of cash. Good luck to you.
Thank you. Very helpful video. Dyson fixed no problem
Thanks a lot, Dyson V10 is back to life 😀

From the U.K., thank you, thank you and thank you !!!
Much appreciated :D I feel like a certified technician, cheers
Great vid. Thanks! Made the repair myself. 3D printed my own replacement trigger too!
great tutorial. was very helpful in repairing the V10. I had to buy a T8 torx because I didn't have one at home and a trigger. the total cost is 7 euros vs 95 in service.
Thanks for the video. I fixed my v10 with these steps
Thank you for this video, it really helped! Those inner cables were a right pain, but with patience I changed and upgraded the trigger - works like new!
Multumesc pentru video, am reparat intocmai cum ai detaliat tu! Super! Respect!
Thank you so much for this video tutorial. It helped me to fix this exact issue. Thank you!!
Thank you! I was able to fix mine thanks to this video!
Many thanks for the video, saved me a lot of money and hassle.
I must say this is a great explanation video 10/10
Thanks for the video, managed to replace the broken trigger on my V11.
Just a word of warning...newer manufactured digital bodies have a liberal covering of silicon over the control board, terminals and that little micro connector,
luckily this one was a replacement under warranty and I still had the old one in the garage thankfully without any silicon on it
bless you!!! thank you SO much❤❤❤ saved us a huge headache 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 super grateful 🥳
Thanks for a super helpful tutorial video.
Once I got my T8 screw driver that fit down the trigger shaft I was off to the races. It’s always the last screw! Great video although I did opt for a new trigger after a glue fail. Really helpful and now my Dyson works again.
About to repair our V10 Animal vac. Thank you for making the video.
Cheers mate!
Great vid, Everything you need to know and nothing you don't
Keep up the good work!
Thank you👍 all we need is straight to the point. Glad it helped.
great explanation. Thank you!!!🥇🏆
This helped immensely!! Thankyou!
very helpful, thank you!
This helped me fix my Dyson :) Thank you!
There is NO WAY this wasn't designed to fail. Mine broke in exactly the same spot like thousands others. Thank you very much for this video. Rather than crazy glue I will buy a replacement. I see some on amazon reinforced with metal.
Thank you this fixed an expensive vacuum!!👍🏻😊
Glad I could help.
Thanks for the video. I'm stuck at the torx screw inside the handle, though. I can see it turning, but it won't come out. Any ideas?
Thanks! Thanks to this video I could fix it for 10 euro instead of buying a new one
Boom! Back in business. Thank you. A few vidoes out there explain this but no nearly as concise. Motherboard on my unit was coated in rubber - used an exacto knive to it cut it away.
Great video. Thank you
excellent one thanks !
I've just fixed my Dyson!
Thank you for the video. I wouldn't be able to figure out how to do that. I really appreciate it!
Glad to help!
repair successful ! thanks !
I did it! Thank you for the clear instructions!
Well done👍
Helped me a lot
