    Deeply bothersome. The girl was responsible for her actions of course but it takes a special breed of awful to exploit the underdeveloped moral foundation of such a troubled child. This kind of insidious harm is pervasive and unyielding because it turns the abused into an abuser. I’ve had students whose parents forced them to mistreat siblings for their amusement. Those kids’ identities were branded as “damaged and filthy” so they engaged in self-harm and attempted suicide because they saw no other way to escape their self-hatred. Thank you, Dr. G.- a disturbing reminder that evil exists in many forms. 💔

Unfortunately, it appears that Sabrina’s life has been a sequence of adversities from the moment she was born, one after another leading to a tragic outcome. Even still, she committed an awful crime and should face the consequences of her actions. On the other hand, Lisa was betrayed in the most horrific manner. Really sad case.

      Your use of “avoiding” made the phrase quite confusing, & it wasn’t until Dr. Grande said it himself that I understood what it meant. “Avoiding” makes it sound like the “conviction” is actively avoiding memory loss. Instead it should be written as “ultra-convenient conviction-avoidance memory loss.” The dashes to combine the words make all the difference.

The severe disorders were often disguised with word play, but we learned to read between the lines. Kind of strange that she didn't even make an attempt at getting away with it. I'd be curious to know if she feels it was worth it after all was said and done. It's really repugnant how Sabrina's extreme vulnerability and desperation for love was exploited. I think she could be rehabilitated with intensive therapy and education and I think the minimum of 30 years is excessive. I really feel for Lisa and the two daughters who now have to live with this tragedy that has left them essentially orphaned. I hope they are in supportive environments and have access to mental healthcare that can facilitate the processing of such a devastating loss. It's disgusting how the husband behaved both before and after his instigation of his wife's murder.

  • @IndigoRoses7
    @IndigoRoses7 Před 2 lety

    You bring up excellent points, Dr.
    I have seen several presentations on this case, not one of them mentioned that Kevin was threatening to end his life to Sabrina, if his wife stayed alive. That is the ultimate emotional blackmail, to threaten to end yourself to coerce someone into your plan.
    I'm by no means on Sabrina's side...but as mentioned, Sabrina clearly would have abandonment issues and fears, given her history with her parents, her grandmother, and in the foster care system. Since she couldn't get along with Lisa, Kevin was her lifeline to stability in her own eyes.
    At Sabrina's age at that time, you are EXTREMELY impressionable. That is an age, that you especially need structure, healthy boundaries with adults and to understand consequences of your actions.
    If she never had a stable, reliable, good parental figure or guidance before she entered this house that lasted more than a few years...she was putty in Kevin's hands, in many ways. You are so naive at this age, as a teenager.
    I was groomed inappropriately by am uncle I lived with when I was in my early teens, and it took many years of counseling and therapy to overcome that amd understand normal relationships with adults in your life.
    In that way, I understand why Sabrina went down the path to destruction. I'm sure that she knew this was WRONG. But, when the adult you look up to does not exercise that conscience themselves, and is very manipulative..it can definitely lead to very, very poor decisions.
    The true victims in this case are Lisa, and her daughters. There's parts of me that do empathize with Sabrina, but I also believe she needs to serve sone time and hopefully she's getting therapy while serving her time. I do think that intense therapy for young inmates like Sabrina is vital, especially when she spent most of her life as a feather in the wind with no lasting structure and stability until she entered the Knoefel home. To be vulnerable with a person like Kevin was a recipe for disaster.
    I truly hope both Sabrina and Kevin feel remorse for what they've done and are working towards goals of being better people

    The husband put Sabrina up to this, evidence or no evidence. He manipulated her using emotional blackmail, that he might commit suicide if he didn't get rid of his wife forever. Sabrina knew what he wanted and she did it. He was desperate to see her in the jail to make sure she wasn't going to talk or implicate him. Neither of them were thinking about what would happen to the couples children. They didn't care. And because he moved on without Sabrina after she facilitated this new life for him and all the money....she got revenge by telling the cops. It did her no good though as they both got the same sentence.
