  • This problem is from the following book: goo.gl/t9pfIj
    We examine the weights for 50 strawberries to determine if the weights are approximately Normally distributed. First, we look at a histogram of the data and confirm it is unimodal and roughly symmetric. Next, we use the empirical rule (the 68-95-99.7 Rule) to see if about 68% of the weights fall within one standard deviation. Finally, we use a normal probability plot on a TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition.

    The word approximately is very important! Because this data is 100% NOT normal, because random data from a normal distribution would never have that roundings. It is manipulated data, belonging to a discrete distribution.

    Now i know not all data is normally distributed, but we assign that it is based on a few checks.

    Great video. Thank you very much. I also have one question. How do we know if a distribution is normal without the dataset, just with the mean and the standard deviation?

      @doctorharsh7133 Před 2 lety

      Suppose mean is 40.
      SD is suppose 12.
      So half of mean is 20 which is more than SD and hence this is normal distribution.
      Half of mean>SD suggest ND
