  • We want to make a very strong hive before putting our super on. Twice the bees makes more honey, more resistant to robbery and take up less space.

It's great to see how different beekeepers are getting on with these hives. Thanks for sharing :)

I read some beekeepers had bad expiernce using two brood boxes with the flowsuper. Possible they didn't have enough bees yet.? What was your experience? Wonder why they prefer 1 broodbox above the flowhive..

      Hi,
from our experience we had one brood box and our hive was infected by someone spraying chemicals in the area. Our hive became weak and died out. We decided that if we have two brood boxes we will have a stronger hive, the queen can lay as many eggs as she wants, not to say if someone sprayed a chemical it won’t decimate our hive but hopefully there will be enough bees to drop the super and 1 brood box and keep going.
You do need to wait until the first brood box is bursting with bees. You will see this as during normal 25 degree day there is bees all over the hive and when doing a hive inspection all brood boxes are full.
We also waited until the super was at least half full in case they needed extra honey on the 2nd brood box added but we found this had no effect.
1 brood box makes it quicker and easier for inspection and to find the queen
As for honey it is meant to produce more honey as you have more bees, but we are a bit slack on the harvesting.
      Hopefully this helps
      Scotty

@@1greenthumbgardeningtwba thanks Scotty it does. Its more fun bee keeping when the focus is not to much on the harvest. Also it depends on the situation, there might not be a one correct way to respond to bees. Enjoy your bees and hive ;)

Thank you, we just love the experience of having bees, we also have two native bee hives.
I bought our native bees hives through the darling downs bee association ( which I a a member to $20per year) $220 a hive. We also paid $170 for 6 frames nuke with queen for the flow hive.
It is good to be a member, get so much info from experienced keepers.
