I feel like I'm neglected other gaited breeds so here's the Icelandic Horse. Performing a 4 beat ambling gait called the Tölt. Ambling gaits that are shared with many other breeds often in form of the Rack which you can see in other disciplines like Speed Racking and Saddleseat.
Nope Tölt, with the Pace both legs on the same side move/hit the ground at the same time (right hind follows right front, like a camel.) With the Tölt/Rack, the left hind follows the left front but they don't hit the ground at the same time. There's a second where the one hoof is down before the other (often its refered to as single footed 3up 1 down in higher speeds) making it a 4beat gait as the legs move more separately like the walk. Tho in my opinion the biggest give away is the hind legs sweeping the ground while the front move more independently with action.

@@user-ux5dd3wb9h Totally understandable lol, the easiest way you can tell if you're ever confused is to pause the video. There you'll be looking for them having 3 hoofs up and 1 down, which is the characteristic of the Rack/Tölt. Sometimes they can have 2 down on one side for a split second or just have the hoof hovering just slightly above the ground but otherwise it is pretty reliant. Tomorrow I will be uploading a Tölt and Rack short which will highlight the gait a bit more.
The Tölt is a smooth ambling gait, you might have a little side to side motion but nothing that big. If you ever want to see how it feels but aren't ever going to ride a Icelandic, there are alot of gaited breeds that do perform the Tölt but it's refered to as a Rack in American gaited breeds. TennesseeWalker, Standardbred, Saddlebred, Racking horse, Spotted saddle horse, or even a Rocky Mountain horse would be a good choice to see how the gait would feel. 😉
It's a jell pad so it's under the saddle, not to mention English saddles are designed to be worn without saddlepads 😅 It wasn't that long ago in the Olympics where you saw Cross-country riders competing without them.

They do, if you go to Iceland they have Horseback riding tours where you get to ride with a whole herd of Icelandic horses. It's honestly so cool to see.

Oh! I just now realized and watched a vid on their different gaits. You’re right :) anyway, their gaits are absolutely beautiful
What does that feel like
The Tölt/Rack is a very smooth ambling gait, where the most you'll feel in the saddle is a slight side to side motion as their legs are moving.

Paso finos as ponies
What? Paso finos are much, well, finer, tgey are more elegant and the icelandic is rather robust with a fluffy mane
