  • This is a tutorial on how to replace or clean your Idle Air Control Valve on a 97-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ. My Jeep Cherokee was idling rough like it was choking when I started it and then it would stall. My idle needle was also going up and down sporadically. I turned the key but didn’t start it to make sure the fuel pump was working and then checked the fuel rail to make sure there was pressure. After checking those components I moved on to the idle air control valve. The idle air control valve electrically regulates airflow to the engine to ensure smooth idling. So far this has solved my issue.

    My 98 Cherokee XJ is sometimes revving up and down in park . I cleaned the throttle body a couple years back but did not know about this idle air control valve until your video. I will try it today if the weather warms a little more. Thank you, if it works I will comment again, if not well I will have to think of perhaps replacing that little unit.
    Nice video - thanks (:

    • @ucanfixit1
      @ucanfixit1  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hey thanks for watching. If that doesn’t work I’d replace the throttle position sensor (TPS) before replacing throttle body, it’s cheaper and more likely the culprit. I actually cleaned my IAC valve and it worked for a while then came back and then I replaced the TPS and it went away. Hope this helps and hope you sub.
