- I'd know about this car for my entire life and the previous owner decided it was time to let this one go. So I jumped at the chance to own this super solid 1962 Pontiac Catalina that has a 1968 GTO 400 Engine and 1978 Trans Am Super T10 4 speed transmission and limited slip rear axle. Lets get it back on the road and better than ever! This car is NOT for sale! As always, thanks for watching!

I wanna make fun of you. But that car is pretty sweet and super solid. What can I say, I'm jelous of your rod.
Looking a little bit more solid then that Camaro you got going! lol
What kind of rod are you jealous of? His super solid one?
Oh dear...
@@zacheryjohnson234it’s one way of putting it
The rod of schmoo?
MOJO schooling the engineer on solenoid is priceless 😂
Yeah your right, they look heavy but the are not.
Mojo is a treasure! appreciate him wile you can! his knowledge is priceless!
Absolutely!
my sediments exactly. Where's my G-Pa.... gone over 50+yrs now. Stay Active and Healthy, Mojo.
@@MortskeRepair your a very lucky man Mr. Mortske. Say hello to the National Treasure of Mojo for me and take the Duff for a nice enjoyable ride and give him a good ear scratch for guarding the Best garage in the N. Dakota territory.
@@MortskeRepair I know that your a very busy man but I would start writing a good book with Mojo and whatever you can remember from you childhood and the way it was when you grew up and what they did to get where they and you, plus the knowledge you have came from. A beautiful little touch on it would be a good historical sights and lands of how things were and are looking now. If there's anything left from then, show up pictures of the place now and then and show the difference between them and if things are different oh well and if not it would be nice to see how close they are and what they are now if not the same. P.S., do what my friend did when he was on CZcams for a little while before deleting everything, hang ☢️🛑 signs like NO TRESPASSING with out permission of the Owner and the other one was WE WON'T DIAL 911 UNTIL AFTER WE DIAL .357! Worked perfectly and kept out all undesirables period. The "Trespassers will be prosecuted to the maximum sentence allowed by the law of North Dakota and the Owners"! Should be sufficient without triggering the Karen's in the neighborhood and beyond that just wants to pop in unannounced and uninvited by the Mortske Repair shop and the proprietor's, Signed Duff!💪🐕. I hope you all have a great day today.
Would absolutely love to see the Catalina restored, she's a beauty!!!
Yes! More of this car! Paint, interior, trim.
Better chance of Seeing Mojo, pick a car and throw the W Block Chevrolet in it.
You may have the start of a real gem here.......I hope you keep it and do something special with it.....
That’s the plan
@@MortskeRepairMort, don't you already have a pretty clean '62 Pontiac? Not that there's anything wrong with having 2! They ain't makin' any more! And they aint common like F-bodies and Squarebodies!
@@JeffKopis only one
DON'T SELL IT. And definitely do at least one more follow-up episode. That thing deserves some more TLC 👍
26 mins in and I’m salivating over the Cat.
The ‘62 isn’t only the best looking year, but Pontiac royalty! It definitely deserves to be loved.
I’d make a 421 super duty clone and drive the wheels off of it. ❤
Good stuff Mortske!
Tell Duff I said hi.
Right on!
lol till you see the price of real s.d. parts......unless you just throw what ever works at it to do it correctly as a "clone" will be pricey.....ask how i know....my 62 cats a replica of a s.d.....not a clone of a s.d. with alot of factory s.d. parts...i drag race it in vintage super stock....bench seat 4 speed heater delete radio delete clock delete revese light delete very built 389 real s.d. top end nos s.d. scoop 62 prix grills muncie rock crusher 390s out back on cheater slicks..with steelies and dog dishes....traction bars from the company who made em for pontiac in the 60s been discontinued for yrs but tracked down the owner of the company and was willing to make me a set due to how i was building the car..i tracked every factory photo every vintage race/pit photo i could to build the car over 10 yr period.....if you look at it youd swear it was a s.d. its not poncho "purists" would pick it apart....wrong man choke cable wrong plug wire stand non s.d. clutch linkage 14 in wheels not 15s ect ect..... personally id toss that 400 put a correct 389 tri power back in it find a shifter that actually fits the floor correctly and hammer the snot out of it.....but if i get another 4 speed 61-62 cat im doin a nascar like fire ball roberts....
@@stevenhagebusch9561
Sounds like you’re living the dream. That’s determination!
A 421 SD has always been and still is a “dream car” that I’ll never have. But if I win the lottery….. lol, yeah right. Anyhow, I guess I should have worded it different. Replica, clone, tribute, or whatever I mean, I’d make it look like a SD421 and be damn proud of it.
@@baconator_c10no worries.....i just think clones tossed around to much and can take away from the real ones.....that being said i seen a real s.d. at a poci show in the early 90s.....i was barely a teen.....i fell in love.....wanted a gto....better yet a judge but i like full sizes and it was the most beautiful thing ever......second only to a 69 judge.....which is my other dream car like you....come on lottery lol.....over 20 yrs latter and naming my daughter catalina i found mune in a salvage yard a start over where it had been since 71......tracked down the guy who ordered it.....factory hi po tri power 389 bench 4 speed manual every thing delete every thing.....think the only box for go fast he didnt check was 421.....so being i really really wanted a s.d. it was at least the bones to start....my dads a old hot rodder so all i know is points and muti carbs......id say im pretty lucky to atleast aquire one of my dream cars.....find a ole 62 cat every thing else can be aquired with time and patience.....took me 10 yrs to build mine.....
I love that car too !
The only "mostly consistent" thing in my life is Mortske Mondays
Most definitely would like to see more of the Catalina progress
Good to hear!
I had a bunch of pontiac hardtops and convertibles, Many of them ran hard like the 62 . The one that reminds me of you pounding the 62 was a 65 Bonneville two door hardtop with fenderskirts that I bought in leavenworth Ks with a 389 and a factory 4 speed it was a sleeper, one time I washed the motor and then hotrodded it and blowed the rods clear out of the block, all of the pistons were up to the top of the cylinders, the push rods wer fish hooks the cam was in little pieces as was the crank. Ibought a 428 out of a 69 grand prix with 390 horse and put it in the 65 It was the fastest car in Leavenworth . Thanks for bringing back the memories for this 75 year old man.
Thanks for sharing!
Duff has the most intelligent eyes of any living being on the planet. God bless you Mort for taking care of him.
General Motors had a "Black Cherry" paint. The Pontiac would look awesome painted Black Cherry !
Yes because the 66-67 Chevy Chevelle ss396 in black cherry red with the black vinyl top and interior look like a very sharp car!!!
Nothing beats Mortske’s Movie Monday! Hi Duff!
I’ve been waiting for this, I have a soft spot for 62 Catalina’s. They’re not easy to find, definitely a keeper.
Got a 65 GTO in the shop today and it is all original and was tagged last in Iowa in 75. 389/4 speed and she is solid 🪨 as a rock 🥌 no holes all surface patina even under the carpet!
Awesome!
That was the shortest “Will It Run” ever!!! I noticed this video is less than 2 hours. “That Guy” will be happy, but the rest feel cheated 😂😂😂 👍💪😎
😂under two hours is short video quality content
Yes short videos have no quality of content 😊
That’s okay…as long as he doesn’t shortchange us on Duff shots, I’m fine with that. Brittanie’s are my favorite breed of dogs. I’m here to see Duff dog, Mortske second.
😂
😂
Another American automotive icon returns to the road. One more feather in your cap there Mort. 👍
🤓
@MortskeRepair if you're still looking for stock manifolds, I'm going sunday to look at a garage full of old pontiac parts and he said he has quite a few different sets of exhaust. Let me know. 😁🤙
@@stinnettracingyup, send us an email.
Is the right side exhaust restricted? Might have been the camera angle, it looked like it was flowing only half compared to the left side.
mr muski.. i watched this n that garage, chad.. building a 350 chev.. ill keep my clevo.. chevs are bad.. which ive known for 60 yrs.. proof in the pud..ausie..@@MortskeRepair
Throwing DD Speed Shops dad under the bus made my day.
I came here to see the the comments about the hydrolock incident which surprisingly was very few. Good on you for not editing that out, I don’t think I could’ve done the same. Sweet car.
Gotta learn from your mistakes!
I’m really diggin that 62. Nice updates with the engine and transmission.
Good looking old Pontiac definitely a keeper 😊 Would ❤ to see more Catalina vids for sure.
Thanks for the ride, Mortske. She's a keeper. Likey the bloopers.
I owed a '68 GTO, with the 389, turbo 400, 3.56 posi , A/C , hood tach, silver with black interior. It was by far the quickest car "off the line" I ever owned. Wish I had kept it. But an Illinois State Police officer offered crazy money money for it. That was over 25 years ago; It would have been even " crazier money " today.
Thanks for sharing!
Don't think I've seen you smile so much on a test drive, Mortske. No wonder the big old Tin Indian is not for sale. It will be nice to see you do some fixing on it rather than just flipping it. All the best, Mart in England.
Like father like son. I knew this was gonna be a good one from the start.
Well it wouldn’t be a Mortske Monday without at least one little thing being difficult, and I don’t think there’s ever been a project in my life where I haven’t at least said WTF at least once. You figured it out fixed it up and showed everyone that people make mistakes best thing to do is learn from it, fix it, do it right and then move on from.
Dang ! That's a nice Poncho ! Same color as my '66 Starchief. Love the big Pontiacs !
What's the cure for the Monday morning grind at work? Mortske and Son!😆
I would love to have that. I'd tune it up and drive the pants off it!!
Great find Mort👍👍
Love '62 Catalina's...lucky to be Mortske...
I love it when mojo starts speaking in his high-pitched voice so funny great video. Love you guys bye
That's a sweet old ride.
I enjoy the sound it makes going through the gears.
A burnout cam on the back of the car would be super cool.
Another great video.
Such a good looking car , paint her champagne the cars definitely a keeper keep doing what you do sir
Never have I ever been happier that one your revivals is not for sale. This ticks a lot of boxes for me and sure as hell don’t need another car.
Definitely want to see more of this wine mixer!
Saw the 5 spokes on a Catalina knew it had to be an Uncle Terry whip HA…side note- “super Duty hood scoop” 😂
Good to see another Pontiac on here they're rare to see on CZcams
I love your channel. You are a joy to watch and very down to earth. Mojo is a hoot and duff is a special companion. Thanks for rescuing him. Fix up the Catalina that thing hauls. Keep up the good work. Look forward to every episode.
Thank you so much!
Loved the Duff Dog open.
Mortske and Duff dog lighten my heart.
Put Mort in a jacket and tie without a hat in front of a 400 level 25 student engineering class with Duff Dog sitting on a pillow next to his desk with his signature tail wag, and you can just see the coeds crossing their legs like Indiana Jones.
Love the Duff!
Tindian?
At least you know SOME of your intake valves are good!
And the combustion chambers are CLEAN!
No doubt!
Pretty good shape. Definitely a keeper
Here in Michigan, we have an authentic plate process for registering your vintage cars. That feels like an exceptional deal!
If you’re OK with driving it on weekends, or to and from car club events. As well as two and From auto repairs.
Michigan charges $35 one time fee for life to register a license plate that shows the same year as your car as long as it’s 26 years old or older
Very nice!
Another awesome video Mortske, it was great belated birthday video for me. So happy you saved another Ponco, and keeping this one. Some of my favorite Pontiac’s are the big boat 60’s Catalina’s, Grand Prix’s and Bonneville’s.
Coolant into a vacuum port... didn't see that one coming 😮
Who doesn't have those days! 😄🍺
@Shermhioctane yea not a fun oops moment. Had someone do better than that, a fella in the auto shop I worked at watched me take out the oil filter so could take off another part and he subsequently proceeds to crank the truck over with no oil in it!😮😮😮😂
You better hope Pudding the clown doesn't see that heater hose to the vacume port boo boo ...lol 😂
Wow Mojo gets to work in the cool part of the shop! You got some nice cars setting around! I never seen a 348 big block in real life. Also awesome job getting that hood out the silo!
Did not go un noticed...lol
More Catalina please! Great episode!
10K Lakes in Minnesota, right? Awesome! Wisconsin has even more than that, but it's not our license plate slogan. The new slogan I voted for to replace "America's Dairyland" was: Wisconsin >Smell Our Dairy Air< !!! LOL
G/F had a 1970 Catalina 400 when I met her in 1979. Big car, Yes. Ugly design, Yes. Snap your head back when you hit the Gas, Hell Yes! Also that beige color.
I am only 19 minutes into this episode. And this old poncho is way, way to gooder for your general inventory standard! I mean, it’s almost got zero rust! Basically just the front lower fenders, which can be cut out and patched.
I have been seeing this in the background in a number of your recent videos. Looking forward to seeing what you’ve got here and what you do to it.
Those headers have definitely gotta go. And it also needs the front bumper and trim put back on.
P. S. I like raised white letters facing out on sporty looking cars like this ‘62 Catalina.
Now back to the video.
Those pump jacks make good torque. My dad had a 69 Pontiac Grand Prix with the 400 4 barrel factory dual exhaust with the TH400 . Not sure what it had for gears but that car would get out & move and it actually handeled pretty good . One thing to keep an eye on is the harmonic balancers on them the rubber deteriorates and the balancer will separate that will throw the balance off and cause the end of the crank shaft to bust off because the Grand Prix my dad had did this twice and i had the same thing happen to my 73 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 400 in it years ago . I worked at S&S performance in Crystal MN and we built a 455 HO Pontiac engine with all the good Pontiac speed parts with a custom sheet aluminum intake manifold custom headers and a 3 stage nitrous system that went into a 69 Pontiac GTO all tube chassis certified big tire drag car that made over 1,200 + hp to the rear wheels on our chassis dyno at the shop . The owner of the car ran it all over the usa at different 1/4 strips and back then it was a national record setting car and was at the time the quickest and fastest all Pontiac powered drag car in the states . Im also a Chevrolet guy and Mopar guy as well and of course love them ponchos because my dad had then when i was young growing up and am 61 years old now . I definitely would like to see more videos of this pump jack for sure and I feel the car is definitely worth fixing it up and getting it painted again so keep them videos coming !
Holy smokes thats a neat thing to learn from a comment, somebody who knows their way around the cars, and even did something really impressive!
Hey, where's the term "pump jack" come from? Only thing I can find is it's a spin off on the word Pontiac. Was hoping it was more interesting than that!
Absolutely love it Moretske! Hope you finish it up and keep us posted! Luv the car man, hope to see it again!
That's awesome you got Frank Zappa to go along for the ride with you!
YES , More Catalina please ! Hell YES!! 👍💯
HEY! Good morning and thumbs UP!!!
🖐
Definitely one of the finer specimens to come to the shop. And im quite happy to hear you're gonna hang on to it. Im no mechanic, but I did comment to myself self that id never seen a heater hose goin to that particular location, but I deferred to the expert! Now i have seen one there, so we never have to do that again. Great job mortske, always fun, and always learning!
The guitar lead was blazing while cleaning out box trailer. Custom tunes! Never disappointed spending time watching your channel.
Great video Mortske. Hope too see more on this old Pontiac. I would probably go with the blue paint.
I thought when the Poncho was hydro locked we were getting ready to see a 348 engine swap. Glad it was an honest mistake and luck was on your side. That Pontiac is wonderful in looks and the way it SOUNDS WOW.
Not quite!
So glad love those Ponchos@@MortskeRepair
Awesome Cat! Love that Duff turns his head as you do while backing up. Factory color would look great!
Nice to see you havin' fun with this one.
😂😂😂😂😂 routing a coolant line to the intake manifold intake port. That’s just a too real Homer Simpson moment. Doh!
Doh!
Love to see more of 1962 Pontiac. I love the way your uncle set it up. always look forward to you and Duff on Mondays. Thank you again for another cool video on an old car.
Our pleasure!
Every January, I have a surplus of $$$ that I wanna spend on a Mortske car. And every time I see the one I want, IT AIN’T for sale!!!!
man mort. i love that you can keep your sense of humour with the heater hose.
that's what makes you "top shelf"
giver.
You gotta laugh at yourself!
i think you need to rock those factory hub caps
Duff, I can hear him saying.....um you go sit down... have a sammige let me fix this boo boo you did....and then come on back....and we can get this gem running again....
Oh Mortske, this is the car!! Yes, this is the car you should definitely go all the way with and fix it up. That car is bad ass!! Just so happens to be one of my favorites as well, a dream car!!
Another great car revival. I always look forward to Mondays and Thursdays for your and Puddins ‘s videos. Keep up the great work.
Much appreciated
A video less than 2 hours? WTF ? I thought we were going to be over 2 so we could weed out the negative Nancy's? Appreciate it all the same...thanks Mortske !!!! Sweet car !!
I had a 79 Catalina.2door,I miss it. What a great running car I’m losing power plant was a small block 400. I can’t remember the transmission or the rear gears.
Man it was smoke’em down !
Im glad you are keeping this one. Since you've got most of a blue interior, I say blue exterior. Definitely a Pontiac blue. Either way, she's gonna be one sweet Catalina!
Good choice!
you can't beat those old cars hope to see more of that car
The smile on your face says it all! Awesome donuts, that's definitely a keeper. Nice looking car, looking forward to seeing more progress on it in the future! I vote for the factory color on it.
Good morning, Mortske!
Hey Mortske another keeper!! I liked a bit, but I sure did like it a whole lot more when you let her rip! and it almost feels like a project video, I really hope enough people want to see you finish this as another video, as it would be great to see! Thanks again!
Good call!
Glad you're keeping this sweet ride 👍
Yet again, it's Mortske Monday!
Another great show Mortske, Thanks! The steering wheel off is the toe adjustment easy peasy do it with a tape measure. I loved that silly grin on your face when you fired up those skins.
(You set the wheel to center and adjust the toe to specs)
All those good comments plus the music ‘s getting way better. Thanks

The Catalina should be named..wait for it...Big Cat - Love this videos
Gotta love the Duff cam and yes that ol’ Poncho is a keeper . Cheers from Vancouver BC, Canada .
Hey Mortske and Duff👋, nice ride. Yes need more of the Catalina. Have a great weekend
Thanks! You too!
Awesome! What a dang good looking car! Gets after it too.
What a great car, nice work, Mortske!
Great video, lovely motor and the fact it put a massive smile on your face means it needs to stay and get more Mortske Magic.
Couldn't agree more!
Definitely want to see more of Catalina. Would be great to see a full on interior restoration and fresh paint. Thats a sweet ride.
I recently bought one of your hoodies they are very comfortable and really warm! Thanks for your entertainment!
Awesome! Thank you!
that’s the best donut and engine sound you have ever had on the channel in my opinion! i hope to see this car come back on the channel and keep improving! love a good big pontiac
Couldn't agree more!
I think this is the best car you have done so far. Awesome
My second car was a 1976 Catalina with a fine red metallic lacquer, lazy 350-2bbl but a big, comfy coupe like this one - enjoyed your efforts and the burnout result!
nothin but smiles and whiplash ..2 tons of fun.man!!!
Excellent video Mortske :) , MOJO :) , Duff Dog 🐕, also yes that 1962 Pontiac Catalina car are awesome & excellent and yes uncle Terrence did super job also yourself fix it up ! Color Beige With White Pin stripe and Interior be nice up dated new ones!
Thank you for showing your mistake! Keeping it real! I really enjoyed watching you diagnose the problem too!
Thanks for watching!
That thing is awesome. early 60's full size cars are a ton(2?) of fun to drive. that thing is a keeper - it definitely needs a tach and a rev limiter, big Pontiacs don't oil well at high RPM. look forward to seeing an update/interior/paint/assembly on this thing. great work.
I would like to see more of the 62 Catalina! Thanks John
what a killer score mortske..not just the car but all those valuable parts as well...hope you got a steal on all of it!!!!
We did ok
Absolutely loved the donut and the launch! Sounds awesome!
It was!
Gorgeous car. I enjoyed it so much I wished the video was twice as long. And as a Canadian I can confirm that Master Craft tools do have a lifetime warranty, but you have to take it into the store.
What a Cool Mortske Monday Video ! What a Car ! We all make mistakes however Real men own up to them like you did . You outdid yourself this week Thanks Mortske
