Special Seas - National Marine Park of Alonissos

The National Marine Park of Alonissos contains areas of diverse marine habitat. The park comprises several islands, each with their own characteristics which have the potential to support abundant marine life. Unfortunately, many areas of the Aegean Sea are overfished and depleted of fish life. Even within the National Marine Park of Alonissos one can see the continued impact of fishing pressure with little or no fish life present in many areas; but there are some special places supporting healthy fish populations. This video shows some of the magnificent marine life to be found. These areas need the upmost protection, so they do not fall victim to the perils of overfishing which are all too common in Greece.
The National Marine Park of Alonissos is a ‘special sea’ and needs ongoing protection and management.
