    Hi Vivian!
About using a steamer, I've worked in ladies ready to wear in department stores, and at theme parks in merchandise, since 1981, I have a lot of steaming experience. I've also owned home steamers since about 1987. First you should always use distilled water in your steamer, or iron, it helps the machine last longer. When you use a steamer hang the clothes up some place secure so it doesn't fall down, and at a height you can reach the whole garment. Then put the steamer INSIDE of the clothing up against the fabric and facing you, start at the top (neck or shoulder) and pull down to hem line, using your dominant hand. With your non-dominant hand hold the bottom of the clothing to create a little tension, this helps it go a little faster and easier. For shirts and dresses do the front, and the back the same. For sleeves hold them out by the top edge creating some tension from the shoulder seam, and go shoulder to cuff slowly; but this time with the steamer facing away from your face on the OUTSIDE of the fabric. Check the back of the sleeve to see if you made it through the two layers of fabric, otherwise do the backside too. Collars are tricky, take the shirt off of the hanger and slowly go over it on both sides, then carefully pull the top fold taught, but don't stretch it out. On pants use a pants hanger with clips, or a wire hanger with clothes pins, and hang them from the hem, upside down. This is much easier whether you are putting in a crease or not. Start from the top (hem) to the bottom (waist band), out facing sides, then in facing sides for a crease. For flat legs without a crease do front or back side first doesn't matter. Let the pants hang upside down until they are dry, weight of the waistband helps keep them straight.
The most important part of steaming is to go slow, give the steam time to take out the wrinkles. Then let it dry before wearing it, only takes a few minutes to dry.
I've done everything from fancy dress clothes to character screen print tee-shirts, without damaging anything but my own fingers. For that always have a bottle of aloe vera gel on hand, personally I recommend Mother Earth brand it doesn't have any coloring or preservatives. I keep a bottle in the fridge so it's cold when I put it on a burn. Also keep a bowl (deep enough to get my whole hand in) with ice and water handy. I dunk my hand for a moment before I put the aloe gel on.
Also just like your iron, or coffee maker, every so often you need to run white distilled vinegar through the machine to clean any calcium deposits out, then run clean water through it to get rid of any residue, and the smell.
Sorry if this ran long, but I read all of the comments and so many people don't like using their steamers, or irons. I thought maybe it's because nobody actually taught you how to use one correctly. Using them professionally I had to get hundreds of garments done in a 8 hour work day. Or on special request for a purchase. I don't know if new garments still come with formaldehyde on them to preserve the fabric until purchase. If you intend on wearing something the same day, and you purchase it from a full service department store, ask them to steam it for you before you purchase it. If it only has sizing in it steaming it will loosen the fibers and make it more comfortable to wear. Also it will kill any fungalitis left by the last person to try it on.
Vivian as usual it was a wonderful video. You crack me up so much I snorted. BTW: The iron had moisture in it because they test them at the factory. To check to see if the sole plate is hot yet, keep a spray bottle of water nearby, and a half yard or so of muslin fabric, (or an old cloth diaper). These also work as a press cloth. To keep the sole plate smooth iron over a foot or two of wax paper (buy it at the Dollar Tree store). The iron needs to be at a high enough temperature to make steam, if it cools down it will spit or drool water. My steam cleaner (I clean the bathroom with) will do that if I don't wait for it to heat up completely after refills. So did my old handheld clothing steamer, before it died. My floor model clothing steamer will spit if the hose isn't kept upright, like while moving the hanger around to get the other side. My iron is a Black & Decker with a Teflon soleplate I purchased around 1992, it cost me $50, and it's still running. (If I ever need a new iron I'm expecting to pay $100 or so to get the same quality.)
    😀Thanks for the laughs.🤣
Stay safe, wash your hands, wear a mask, and don't touch your face. May God bless and protect us all from this virus.

I think information should be shared, and passed down from one generation to the next. I've heard that Home Economics class is no longer mandatory in school. Don't understand why, how are kids going to learn the basics anymore? Parents are too busy to teach kids, or don't know themselves.

Steaming is just starting to become more popular in UK. Have seen a few more steamers sppearing in the last year or so, but its not that commom here. I iron the hell out of everything.
Top tip. If the soleplate of your iron gets burn marks, when iron is on, rub the mark with a paracetamol/tylenol? Tablet (use tweezers to hold it) mark disappears like magic.

So Vivian sweetie....call that company up & let them know you want a replacement & give it another try before you harden your heart. Let me explain why: 1) it had liquid in it when you took it out of the box & that indicates a used product; 2) the way water poured out of the steam hole is what my irons always do when someone has dropped them & broke them & that indicates a used product. Either way it acted as though that iron was a broken unit with the random steam bursts, leaks & the flashing light that would not respond until you unplugged it. Unless when you first plug it in it flashes to let you know it is heating up & then turns solid to say it's ready. Red flashing should indicate there is a problem to troubleshoot. My thoughts & feel free to pass that along when you call the company.... LoL.
By the way spending $60 or more on an iron is not a horrible price if you're a sewer or back in the day having to iron your BDU's daily. If those situations don't apply it damn well better be the last iron you ever by, wipes your butt & can be handed down to the grandkids. Have a great day & safe holiday weekend!
ETA: Remember it is only supposed to take 30 seconds to initially heat up so unless there is some sort of indicator light someplace it looked like you had waited that long before turning on the steam. A normal iron usually only takes roughly 2 minutes or so to heat up. Indicator lights are awesome. And cheap. LED's are $0.10-ish each in manufacturing.

Loved the review. Couple of yrs ago, I needed an iron, so I bought one at Wallyworld. It wa pathetic. I hated it, so I donated it to the thrift store and bought one of the really good OLD ones at the thrift store for $3.99. Can't beat the good old irons with steam. It gets HOT and it steams just perfectly with no leaks.

It didn’t leak, it straight up was Niagra Falls up in there!
That would be done for me, return.
And that constant on and off the base seems like to much work. Just have it plugged and done. Constantly keep going.

  • @RocksterD
    @RocksterD Před 4 lety

Did anyone comment on flashing blue base yet? My guess is, you’re supposed to leave the base attached and tilt it since the base acts as the power source for plug-in mode. That’s why it didn’t stop blinking when you pulled it off and tilted it. Hahaha. Your reviews are the best!

  • @CarriedAwayChannel

I’m impressed! Most irons leak and do the steamer thing, but this seems a lot better. The steam is used for tough wrinkles or when you want to make really defined creases. I use it if I don’t have starch. I want to get this damn iron and I don’t even iron anymore. Lol!

I could see this being useful for people who do sewing and crafts. That narrow nose is useful for pressing seams and corners, and the non-stick soleplate is good for synthetic fabrics, fusibles, iron-ons, and possibly fusing plastic bags. It's also cheaper than a Rowenta.

I own the one with the retractable cord (9') and I love it. Bought in 2021 from Amazon for 35.99. Love it so much bought one for my daughter my neighbor and my best friend for xmas. This is my second iron bought my 1st from Fred Meyer's 1990 for 12.99. Basic model no bells no whistles 6' cord. It lasted 31 years then just died. I didn't like it but I bought it and was faithful until it died. The XL has me whistle'n dixie. Its only 1 year old, I worry that the digital display will be short lived. Time will tell. Until then...I will enjoy time saving ironing experience. Oh- the steam is Amazing with no excessive dripping or upside down dripping. My color is a metallic grey blue.
