About this AU - it is a role swapping AU, of two of my favorite character foils in all of warrior cats - Rusty, and Tiny. Half brothers, and both kittypets who were offered different opportunities in life. I wanted to explore how each of them would make use of the other's opportunities. Tiny is given the opportunity to become a forest warrior cat, known as Tinyfrost; and Rusty, when driven off by Tigerclaw, becomes the leader of a clan of feral street cats - taking the name Boon. (Boon? Antonym of Scourge? Eh? Eh? XD)
This video focuses on Boon's story and how he came to found FireClan, with the help of his friends Barley, Violet, and of course Yellowfang (who provided all the stories and training needed to found the Clan.) Someday I'd like to make other storyboards or other projects revolving around Tinyfrost's story, or other characters in this AU. I've spent a lot of time thinking about it and writing about it haha.
I'm so happy with how this turned out. I used it as a chance to push my storyboarding work, and try out new techniques and tools I wasn't used to. I learned how to use Toon Boom Storyboard Pro's 3D tools (DEFINITELY want to use that more) as well as learning how to model in Blender! The background of the StarClan shot, the trees and rocks, I made using Blender's tree and rock generators. Once I figure out how to use Blender completely, my storyboards will be unstoppable! Hoohoo! But first I gotta juice up my computer, the poor thing was one heartbeat away from crashing when I tried to export this monster haha.
Eventually I do plan to host a MAP (multi-animator-project) of this video, but I've got a lot of character designs, set designs and color palettes to figure out before that can happen. But keep an eye out for that! I just wanted to upload the finished storyboard anyway, because I am proud of it.

Answers to a few commonly asked questions:
1. What happened to Tinyfrost at the end?/Who was Tigerstar attacking at the end when Boon and Tinyfrost teamed up?
Tigerstar is attacking Redstar. Tinyfrost dies saving Redstar's life from Tigerstar (again), and this act of self sacrifice redeems him in StarClan's eyes and he joins StarClan.
2. Who did Tinyfrost murder?
Bluestar. She was in the height of her distrustful/crazy arc, and Tinyfrost decided ThunderClan needed Redtail to be leader. He drowns her (fulfilling her water will destroy you prophecy) and stages it to look like the dogs killed her.
Other questions, such as "What happened to ____ character in the AU?" I am happy to answer in the comments, and many already HAVE been answered if you look!
Ooo that makes a lot of sense! Just curious, I'm assuming around the end, Redtail was mourning/paying his respects to Tinyfrost?
I assume that both Boon and Tinyfrost aren't aware that they're half brothers? Since during their small confrontation, Boon seems to talk Tinyfrost out of it as they both defend Redtail.
Who were the cats that Boon saw when he was in StarClan? Just random cats possibly? Including Tinyfrost and Bluestar?
Curious as to what happened to WindClan and Greypaw/stripe! Considering how Rusty never joined ThunderClan, he never had the opportunity to meet Greypaw or let alone save WindClan.
Just want to say that this animatic is freaking beautifully made as well as this AU you've made! This AU is genuinely interesting and the fact that you decided to switch the roles, but didn't do the"Rusty turns evil and Tiny becomes the hero" gives a lot of nostalgia to Rusty/Fire/Boon keeping his personality to the end!

Oh right, before I forget, is there a reason as to why Rusty didn't return back to his twoleg place when Tigerclaw attacked him?
@@whitesoulr He got lost. Ran too far, in the dark, through a lot of unfamiliar smells and sights...he's only 6 moons old at the time, he's practically a kitten with no tracking training. He spent some time trying to find his way back, but when he finds Yellowfang is about when he decides he'll stay in the city and make it his home.
He DOES reconnect with his old home later, when Smudge finds him after hearing about FireClan! Smudge doesn't join, but the two remain friends, and Boon is happy to hear that his old Twoleg is doing fine. ^^
I like how Fire keeps his personality here! I usually see him become evil in these kinds of roleswaps
I like AU's where the characters stay the same type of people, but the courses of their lives change. Makes it interesting to deconstruct what they would do with their new circumstances :)

Bone giving him a spiked collar was absolutely precious. I love the idea of Bone just looking at Boon and going “yes. I shall be this child’s brother”
I debated keeping the spiked collars - without Scourge finding a dog's tooth, there isn't really a plot-related reason for Boon to wear one. But it's such good visual iconography - you see Firestar in a spiked collar and you immediately get the premise of the AU! So I had to have it in there somewhere, and Bone coming up with the idea because it would "look cool and tough" feels like something he would do to help support his little leader. XD He's a good big brother to Boon!

even with different outcomes their personalities would have been too different. rusty isn’t a maniacal leader, instead he makes the city better to live in and is a great leader.

right that's what bugs me with most of this aus is that they end up writing both tiny and rusty as being extremely out of character. rusty enjoys fighting but he has such a strong sense of justice and he wouldn't become a maniacal, cold and cruel leader like his half brother. i know they're aus for a reason but it just feels? kind of lazy.

i can’t explain it but this au feels so real. like in another universe THIS is exactly the direction the erins would have taken firestar’s story. if that makes sense??? anyway, to say i GASPED when boon got his nine lives is an understatement! your storytelling skills are so strong and i loved this animatic so much!!!

I saw somebody else say this, but i am a HUGE fan of fire maintaining his original personality here. I always found the AUs that desicrate his original moral compass to be a bit unfounded (I always thought that even scourge's origin story was a bit silly, and when replaced with Firepaw, it makes it even less founded, seeing as how strongly morally good he is! I doubt a claw swipe would've perpetually damaged his view on the clans to a vengeful extent). Firestar's lawful goodness was a driving point of the story, and it has been beautifully repurposed here. I rarely feel fond of warriors AUs, simply because I am picky, but everything clicks in this AU and adds something to the characters, rather than taking away from them! The things that you kept within the story had INFINITELY more signifance than in the original story (Firepaw still having Yellowfang as a foundation, "Bloodclan" serving more of a purpose than anything, etc..). I feel as though Yellowfang serving as Firepaw's guardian figure had a significant purpose in contrast to the original series; not only was she someone Boon looked up to, but she probably curbed any misgivings that he held toward the clans after his initial introduction to them. She provided perspective on the clans' existence, and not only mentored Boon, but inspired him to create something larger than himself despite any negative connotations associated with the clans. This act of forgiveness from Boon felt really significant to me in contrast to the turning point that Scourge would've had in his place. It's really cool how you expanded on a series that fell rather flat despite its nostalgia. I would've loved to read something like this in place of the original. Not to mention how beautifully storyboarded this is. I hope to claim a part when/if the creation of a MAP for this comes! Amazing work, I will be thinking about this for the rest of time as my favorite AU I've ever seen constructed!
Extra note: I'm a huge Yellowfang fan, and I just think that the role she played in this AU was so cool.. If this AU were her legacy, I would've been INFINITELY more attached to her. Imagine how loved she would've been by Boon's clan for generations to come as one of the founding member's, and the one who inspired its existence in the first place. Like the mother of all the clan! Agh.. Her death would've held even more significance than in the original series. It makes my heart swell!

A big part of making this AU, was moving the pieces the Erin's wrote around in a way that felt more emotionally grounded and interesting. Really exploring motivations and how characters would respond, all tying into overarching themes ^^
I am also a huge Yellowfang fan, so the moment I had the idea for her to become the beloved matriarch of FireClan I fell in love with it :D I have another video planned someday that shows just how loved she is by her clan of street cats!

Unlike that cash-cows warrior series, this au has actual plot and characterization from point a to point b. I like that they didn't switch places just like that. That is, as many do - Now Fire is a villain and Tiny is kind. No. Here they really showed how it could all be. The fire made the cats respect themselves with their deeds, he really did something great. Tiny forced himself to be respected only by fear. Now the first one has adapted again, and the second one has just got a normal life without eternal fear and with the opportunity to prove himself from the best side. LOVE the choice of music, it really adds to the sense of triumph and belonging that develops as Boon builds his own clan! The beats of the story - how each scene transitions like the music does - is captivating, and I keep replaying it over and over. I love Yellowfang’s role (and her design!), how she is so loved and obviously respected, how she dies surrounded by people who love her. I love the friendship between Ravenpaw and Barley and Boon. Everything feels so perfect - the way that Starclan ACCEPTS Fireclan and celebrates in triumph, the way they give Boon more lives, even the way Tiny in this attacks Tigerclaw along with Boon! I couldn’t tell if Tiny died during that but I hope not, I’d love for him and Boon to build a friendship.
Thank you so much! Yes, Tiny saved Redtail! It's how he is given the chance to join ThunderClan (since he didn't have a prophecy making Bluestar give him a chance lol.) At the end sadly Tinyfrost DOES die - but he dies saving his love Redstar, which is the best way he could imagine to go. ^^

I absolutely adore this concept. This makes so so much sense. SO often I see in swap AUs that Fireheart becomes evil, when that's just not in his nature at all. Seeing the city cats thrive, form their own clan and then BECOME an actual clan, become acknowledged by Starclan??? Literal chills.
Your storytelling is top-notch, I was able to understand the whole story without any words spoken. Your timings and expressions are great!
This AU as a whole definitely deserves to be expanded upon. I love Boon so much, maybe even more than his life as Firestar.
(Ooh, also, question! Redtail is alive in this and Bluestar is, I assume, with Starclan. What happened differently at Sunningrocks for this to be the case?)

@@foxycritter Thank you so much for the comment! And yes, good catch! Tiny is the one that stopped Tiger killing Redtail - it's how he gets into the Clan, because Redtail and Ravenpaw vouch for him :) Fun fact though, Tiny actually met with Warriors long before that moment. The canon event of baby-Tiny running away into the woods and coming upon a ThunderClan patrol still happens - except instead of Thistleclaw and Tigerpaw finding him and beating him up, little Tiny meets Sunstar, Bluefur and Whitepaw. And Sunstar is like "we obviously can't take this kittypet kit into the Clan but we can't abandon a lost kit??" so he takes Tiny to the only kittypet he knows - Pine, the ex-leader of ThunderClan :) Pine raises Tiny like a son, and teaches him warrior moves, and when he is about to die of old age he tells Tiny to go to ThunderClan and say Pine believes he can be a warrior. Which just so happened to be the night of the Sunningrocks battle, so Tiny saw what was happening with Redtail and Tigerclaw and intervened. ^^
I think one of the main reasons that they got acknowledged by starclan is that the "Fire alone will save our clan" prophecy still existed, or at least a version of it, cause all the starclan cats staring at him in the beginning when he's under the dumpster. He and his clan still saved the forest, just without joining thunderclan. (Lol when Boon was under the dumpster I bet the starclan cats were like, "Oh- well what now?")

@@DragonwolfRooke I love the fact that starclan or whatever is higher power then starclan (becuase its pretty clear that starclan gains power through cats joined in their religion and other then the moon thing they dont have much direct power in the first series) Just franticlly looking through their notes like "Wait- NO NO THIS IS NOT WHAT HAPPENS!", Then taking one look at whats happening in the clans then and- "SEND IN THE OLD CAT!"
I love everything in this AU! Especially the fact that they don't just magically swap their personalities, it's especially interesting to see how the story might have turned if Scourge and Firestar swapped the opportunities each of them gotten, and the fact that you kept Redtail alive is awesome!

Woah I absolutely love this!! It’s such a great take on a role swap au between those two, I love how he keeps his sweet personality rather than becoming evil or something.
Also I love that his rogue name is Boon as a contrast for Scourge, it’s so cute!

I love the symbolism of starclan watching through them, like in the last shot and at 1:00 . It's a super nice touch! Also, the structure of this AU is so different to other ones and Ii love it for that !! Most AU's (specifically roleswaps with fire and scourge) have the beginnings changed as well. This on the other hand, begins as normal and progresses the story with the characters not being changed, just the circumstance. I utterly adore these types of AU's, and am very happy to see others agree that this is an absolute MASTERPIECE

This was the most beautiful swap and storytelling I have ever seen for Firestar. I can imagine him officially being named Firestar by Starclan after that too and Tinyfrost being Shadowclan’s Tinystar. I love how the community together in the city can bind because of Yellowfang’s knowledge of herbs. A city cat could also take her knowledge to heart and become a medicine cat…Barley? (Sorry Ravenpaw 😢)
This is just gorgeous. I LOVE how Scourge rules with fear but Boon rules with generosity and inspiration. I can see Bone as his deputy. And I LOVE the idea of Starclan granting Firestar his 9 lives RIGHT in the middle of the war and stripping Tigerstar of his. Like not only a kittypet can lead a clan but create one with Starclan blessing. Shock. Loves. Favorite AU ever
Thank you so much!! One fun fact, FireClan doesn't ascribe to the full warrior code. They kinda made one up, based on Yellowfang's descriptions and their own needs. As such, medicine cat knowledge is shared freely with all - all FireClan cats have SOME basic first aid knowledge, and a few like it enough to be official medicine cats. But even then, medicine cats can have mates! That was a suggestion from Yellowfang, she considered that rule to have caused more harm than good. ;)
This story is AWESOME. Ok this is probably my favourite AU now. I love Firestar and this is exactly why! No matter the hardships, he won't get corrupted by them, and instead makes things better. Might be cheesy, but that's it.

Well, cheesy doesn't really mean bad. I feel sometimes people need a little naive idealism to push through things. It's only an AU, but I'm kind of tired of people claiming that if something isn't really dark, brooding and deep, then it's worthless. xD

@@wolfhunt8400 Redtail does, since he's alive, along with Tinypaw (AU Scourge) Dustpaw and Ravenpaw at the time.
If Tiny was to come to the clans, if he were to be accepted, I feel as though he still would've been kind because his whole motivation was revenge on Tigerpaw, and if he never went through that, he wouldn't have been pushed the way he was

I’ve fallen out of warrior cats but this brought my love back for it. I love that you kept Firestar’s personality and didn’t just end his story with finding Barley and Violet (I love that you included them btw) and instead brought yellowfang in to deepen the story and bring him to the knowledge of starclan etc. I also adore that he got a life from knowing yellowfang, overall I absolutely LOVE how you drew everything. ♥️♥️♥️♥️

This is such an awesome role swap!! I think a lot of them time they kinda function as a design swap, but I like how this one maintains the personalities so well!! The storyboard is also fantastic and really easy to follow (even if I hadn’t already read the description!! I teared up watching, and I’m really excited for the map if it happens!!!

I love that in this au Yellowfang fills a role Bluestar normally does in WC videos, their relationship feels so genuine full of love here- it really tugs at your heart strings. Also love how Boon has an unwavering stance on mercy, like he sees the value of life and the potential for good in everybody and everything

Yes Boon is saving Bone from the fire! They were going to fight it out for leadership of his little band of cats, but then the fire happened and Boon was like "well I can't let you DIE" lol. Bone of course joined his Clan out of loyalty for saving his life after that. Thank you so much!!

Oh.. my god… this is definitely the BEST warriors animatic I’ve seen. So many shots in this were so powerful. I’ve been thinking about this animatic all day. I just cannot PUT into words how INSANE this animatic is, I just moon over it so much. I love the many little details in this such as things like the clouds looking over Boon, how instead of Tigerpaw and thistleclaw airs ravenpaw and tigerclaw to fit the timeline, how Raven is playing with rusty instead of attacking him like gray paw did, just ARHGHGH!! I could find so many little things in this story!! It’s so Also, I love how (if this is intentional) you can see the Big Ben in the background!! ARGHHH!! So much attention to detail, it’s so great! Fun fact, the whole reason this AU happens is because I tweaked the encounters that Rusty and Tiny have :) When Tiny runs into the woods as a baby kitten, he doesn't meet Thistleclaw and Tigerpaw - he instead meets Sunstar and Whitepaw, and Sunstar takes the lost kit to the only kittypet he knows - Pine! Pine then raises him and tells him warrior stories, until Tiny strikes out on his on to join the Clans (and happens upon the Sunningrocks battle where he saves Redtail.)
And instead of Graypaw being on a patrol mission that night with Rusty, it's Ravenpaw and his mentor Tigerclaw. :) Ravenpaw doesn't really remember Boon when they meet again, later in life, but Boon tells him the story of what happened lol.

what a crazy idea!! And this animatic is insane! Like, this is so creative and you still some how pull all the strings perfectly together in the end! The whole story of swapping roles with Tiny was already in interesting idea, and you just expanded on it so far!

this is really cool! I love when people actually put in the work to make AU's feel official and complete even when they dont necessarily have to.
I know that some times it can get boring half way through, and usually you will just hand wave it or skip over the hard to write parts, because its not like your writing a real book, its just some silly fan work that probably nobody is going to see.
But its really important to deal with those parts and push forward, not just because it makes a better finale result, but also as practice for if you ever will make something professionally. So it takes some real dedication to see an idea through to the end like this, and its something I associate with promising up and coming artists! Your hard work has gained you a sub my friend!

@@DragonwolfRooke I have a question tho... who killed Bluestar in this AU? At first I thought Tinyfrost did it for Redtail so that Red will become leader and he becomes the deputy ( cuz at the end he seemed to care about redtail )
but then I thought it kinda didn't make sense...
tiny will have a few problems if he was in the forest too ( collar that represent him as a kittypet, his tiny body with no dog claw/teeth to protect him and his problem of taking everything to heart) he might've been worse than tigerclaw in the forest due to him being bulled a lot..
it might remind him of his siblings too.
@@pinkbat. It WAS Tinyfrost who killed Bluestar - and you're right, he did it for Redtail.
Like in canon, Tinyfrost is self conscious about his size and very intent on becoming stronger. This was tempered as a kid by his adopted father Pine, who Sunstar took him to after Bluefur ran into Tiny. Pine helped him train to his strengths and by the time he arrived in the forest he was a decent enough fighter, even without dog claws. He struggled during his apprenticeship to catch up in other areas like hunting, due to his size, but his pals Ravenpaw and Dustpaw helped him improve. ^^
He and Redtail became close after he saved Redtail from Tigerclaw. Over time they actually fell in love. Like how Scourge was fiercely loyal to BloodClan and rigidly devoted to the BloodClan "code" of strength being all that matters, likewise Tinyfrost is loyal to Redtail, ThunderClan and the warrior code. He's pretty strict about it, even going so far as outing Graystripe when he discovered his secret romance with Silverstream.
So when Bluestar went crazier and crazier, Tinyfrost was convinced that ThunderClan would truly be better off with Redtail as leader. So he took matters into his own paws, for the good of the Clan and for his love Redtail.
This is genuinely one of my favourite aus now, it's one of the only ones that actually feels like it could be an actual book or plot in Warrior cats, plus the choice of song is spectacular, I've always connected those into and outro choruses as Starclan when I've listened to the song in my free time, so I am very happy to see this

I absolutely adore this AU! it is so well planned! I know the comments said this like a million times, but i love how Boon/Rusty/Fire keeps is still a hero and did not turn evil although he is in Scourge/Tiny's place. the storyboard itself is stunning! i cant wait for this to be turned into a MAP!
Ive rewatched this about 4 times now, I'm gonna say this is my favourite scourgeswap AU because there is so much more thought put into it than just changing the colour of their pelts
I can see this being a more collaborative focused MAP if it were to ever release, kinda like manch's "this is halloween" MAP but more split into background artists and animators working together??

My main issue is that I don't know how to manage time on scenes, I either have too many things at the same time (and people don't get what's happening) or I make a scene way too long. In this video, it's really easy to see what's happening, even without colors.

@@bluesheep7 Your English is perfect, no worries! Time management in a video has a lot to do with what FEELS long or short enough - it's something that develops with practice and with consuming a lot of media, studying videos you like, etc. It's actually something I also struggle with at times.
Working within set boundaries can help a lot, such as using sound! A song or a piece of voice acting is going to restrict how much time you have, so then it becomes an exercise in priorities. What is MOST important to show the audience, and why? Each shot you pick is going to share SOMETHING with the audience - whether that's important storytelling information, a character's emotions, an emotion you want the audience to feel, etc. There were a lot of spots in this video that I wrestled with for weeks on end, because I had a very short window of time to communicate a lot of info, so I had to boil it down to what was most important and the best way to communicate it.
Outside of timing, clarity in boards is helpful so folks will understand what's happening. Each shot should have a focal point - where it is that you want your audience to be LOOKING. And lining up focal points between shots can help smooth the transition - for example, the shot where Rusty is crouching in front of Ravenpaw. The focal point is the left side, Rusty's face. And then in the next shot, Rusty and Raven circling each other appears in about the same area of the screen. Then our eyes move to Tigerclaw as he enters screen - new focal point. So then when it switches to showing Raven cowering in front of friendly Rusty, our eyes are already there on Raven to get his emotional change.
Does that make sense? It's kind of a firehose of information, sorry ^^

This is amazing! It is clear that you put a lot of time into animation and story! I like to see how certain characters have their own story, like Redtail, Barley, Ravenpaw and Yellowfang. I rlly love this & upon rewatching it again super appreciate how much this au leans into the importance of yellowfang & having her being this huge core thruline that holds strong in both iterations of the character. Esp cuz, & I'm sure I'm not alone in this, Yellowfang was a massive highlight of the first book/series for me. She is rlly a good illustration of Firestar/Boon's character as well as her friendship w/ him cements him as compassionate & steadfast when it comes to extending kindness & understanding to others. It's like his reaching out to her is the ember that become this roaring fire later in his life when he defies Bluestar & saves the antagonistic rogue from the burning building!

I love this so much!! It's so lovely to see an AU like this where Rusty keeps that personality- where he still is just awed by all there is and still wants to be a part of that, helping others. It's always so forced when people turn him into this big mean villain.

I can’t stop watching this. The story is so amazing and all the poses and emotions shown in all the characters is awesome. Like the characters in the background for 2:24 and 2:41 you can still tell their emotions even if they’re made out of a couple of lines. And the part with the fire is epic, especially the part where he passes out in front of the fire. I love his confidence through the whole animatic and the outcome is amazing as well. It’s so creative instead of just making Rusty evil. Awesome job!!

I love how the song is about being pressured by the artist’s fans to make more music, and feeling like they will be next up forever (if that needs more explaining, it means being next to make music forever, not stopping). And yet the animatic is about lil warrior cats. It’s still a good animatic tho 👍😄
