  • Before riding a motorcycle, it is important to do a thorough inspection for safety. A quick visual inspection is the first step; check for any sidewall damage, such as cracks, or objects embedded in the tire. It is also important to check the tire pressure with a PSI tire gauge and ensure it is at the recommended level.
In addition to checking the tires, other important items to check on a motorcycle include the suspension, brakes, electrical, and fluids. It is also important to regularly check these items on a weekly basis.
By following these steps, you can ensure your motorcycle is in good condition and safe to ride!

    Do a POWDERY check
    Petrol
    Oil
    Water
Damage- obvious items - chain etc
    Electrics- lights
    Rubber - tyres, hoses etc
Yourself - are you fit to ride

Excellent pre-ride checklist Dan! I also check my chain: the tension and condition of it. If I hear noise from the chain as I walk the bike up and down the driveway, I lube it. It shouldn't sound like tank treads rolling down the street.

I used to drive transit when I worked my way through school. That beginning of the trip walk around is so important to helping have a great trip. Thanks for posting this, Dan!

PSI markings are also on the swingarm on some bikes.

A voltmeter with 2 usb’s that plugs into an cig plug outlet comes in handy to monitor electric system at a glance. They
    are about one inch square.

Tyres, any leaks, lights, brake check, any disc locks removed, any diesel on ground before moving off, check for any long straps that could catch in wheel or chain. Check chain, check mirrors, check fuel

    Important!!!
By my own recent experience: I do check my tire pressure often, but haven't did a walk around to check all the details of my bike lately. Recently there has been frequent rains and so I thought it would be a good idea to check my chain to see if it required cleaning from the splash back onto my chain and then I was shocked to find that the rod on my back swing arm sprocket was almost completely off. Somehow the bolt came off. Early that day I had gone for a long ride in the twisty foot hills and then on the high way at 65mph. I thought to myself, at some point my life could have ended with sudden death, but some how I made it home safe.
Do yourself a favor. Check all the details of your bike every ride before you head out. I know I will. 😧

Setup the bike for you if it's new! All americans don't do that (including DanDanTheFireman). But it's actually one of the most important steps to prevent accidents! You do it the first time you step inside a car right? So do it on your bike as well to prevent those "I had to lay it down because I didn't set it up properly" stupidity ;)

      @johnb4689 Před rokem

@@abikeanditsboy3449Exactly that. Most Americans don't do that as they don't have the same training you get in Europe. So they don't realize how important it is to do all that. Just changing your controls so you don't accelerate while grabbing the front brake can already save lives.
