I made one 30 years ago at my first quilt lesson, had to make a log cabin quilt and two left over she showed us the chicken. Have used it as a pin cushion for 30 years! Still going strong and my grandchildren love it!
My quilting buddy was generous to all of us quilters and she made several little chickens. I now only use this little chicken instead of my "strawberry" pincushins, and I love it. Thanks, Shar for this tutorial. And thank you, Karen, for your generousity.
I bought your book an templates for the chicken a few years ago an thought I will never able to do this well today I sat down an told myself I could I watch the video an I now have half a chicken lol tomorrow will finish the other side oh btw I passed the sewing test it came out to 4 inches never sown something so small I'm hooked now thank you so much for the helpful video have been following you, Christine.
i have a pattern i begged my grandmom to get me around 1997. I never used it! just hoarded it all this time. it's amazing that the information that once was disseminated for $8 ($12 today money) is freely available on youtube. but i still treasure this little pattern in the plastic bag. no publisher, no website. just a lady's name and some instructions xerox printed single side. it reminds me of a simpler time. and i was always too intimindated to learn how to make the chickens. but with these videos, i'm sure i can try.
I love your videos and enjoy your explanantion. Thank you. I am a beginning quilter and would like to know how to learn how to appliqué. Do you have a video and if not would you please make one? Blessings!
How did you cut and make the comb and beak? How did you sew them in? You just shown that was ready sown in already. You were much detailed about the body and the tail. Nothing on the beak and comb. Or did I miss it? I love the project just missing that one area.
Tanya Avila I was wondering the same thing. I think the comb was out of felt. I guess just free form cut. And the beak looks like a small prairie point.

I saw these 25 years ago when a friend went to Norway, she brought back the pattern with her!

Thank you for keeping the mistake in the tutorial rather than retaking the scene. ..we learn more from mistakes and the lesson is clearer.
