    Ive found and built cabins similar to this one. Sometimes people take it upon themselves to build "camper/hiker cabins for anybody to use. I built one on our land which borders fed land just so anyone caught out there could take shelter. But thanks for sharing this video. I enjoy watching other people find stuff while I'm stuck here at work.

    so... first thing i noticed is that is a very very well used trail you are walking on, LIKE super worn. Meaning someone is travelling that quite often if No plants at all are even sprounting on it. I know for sure that is not an animal trail, so NOONE KNOWS about this place is obviously WRONG, Second, thing, 20 yrs? thats total bs. more like two or three years tops. Wondering if this is someones private property you are tresspassing on or is this Public land in a national forest? That wasnt a bug out cabin at all, way to exposed for that to be the case. This was some squatter cabin or hunting shack at one point. Also if noone knows about this place who gave you directions to get there? Just saying, lets be realistic here..

  • @sibhuskyguy
    @sibhuskyguy Před 10 lety +26

    Illegal or not, finding a cabin like that in bad weather can save your life. When I was younger and used to hike more I'd leave something behind like a can of peas or some dry tinder, or matches or a lighter if I found a small cabin or survival shelter.. Something for the next guy, if they really needed it. I'd say put some maintenence into it and keep it usable for the next guy since it's already there..

    That Winston box is a lot less than 20 years old. The foam mattresses and plywood near the ground aren't showing 20 years worth of weathering, either. I'd say abandoned for maybe a couple of years, but not more than five.
    Nice touch, fastening back the closures on the doors. You're still putting things back the way they were even though the cabin itself isn't sanctioned.

    • @joshuaramirez6121
      @joshuaramirez6121 Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah that's not a very secluded cabin, it's just a little off the main trail that looked like someone tried to cover up. And based on the tire tracks on the road I'd say someone is a frequent vistor, and based on this mans sidewall getting cut, I'd also say they weren't very far. Luckily he had a gun but it was pretty stupid to go alone. If hed fallen through the floor of the cabin and got injured or someone tried to rob him hed be all alone.

    An obviously well worn path, a shack with colorful crap inside, cardboard is fresh, no rust on cans, it's been used maybe One Year ago. Having lived like this myself in the Santa Cruz and Sierra Mountains, I do solemnly testify that this place was used recently and will be used again. To haul the plywood in means there's a road nearby.

    Everything about this property says it is at most a couple of years old. The wood is still crisp and sharp. Nail heads are bright with no rain weeps. A heavy duty metal ladder permanent up the side. Nothing is tilting or even stained. It can't be so far off any path - no one is toting in 30lbs of aluminum over those trails on their back or even dragged in by donkey.

    the hinges on the doors are not rusted, the top floor outside can be stood on by a large person, the nails above the top door are not rusted, in fact really shiny, all of the lumber material seems to be in pretty good shape, if you notice, no large limbs are laying against the room anywhere. so for you to say no one has been around it for 20 years is just your way of showing the world that you either staged this whole setup, or you really don't have a clue about how time and weather conditions affect any surrounding environment.

    Geezus, what is with all the folks asking why he took along his pistol. In North America there is a significant chance of needing one in the wilderness. I have never used the fire extinguisher in my house but I think it is a good idea that I have one. Of the 100,002 times i have ventured into the wilderness I only needed a gun twice. Once I was riding around on my ATV and had a marijuana grower fire some shots into the treetops to scare me off and another time I had a pack of wild dogs get way too close for comfort. The marijuana grower was not a serious danger as I know who he is and he is not a psycho so no big deal.Those dogs could have killed me. I managed to avoid shooting any of the dogs but one was acting really aggressive towards me and had it crossed the small shallow stream between us I would have been forced to shoot it. It is so sad but a lady 50 miles from me got killed by two bull mastiffs when she went outside to get her mail a couple of weeks ago.

Let me guess you are one of those tough guy Europeans or Canadians I keep meeting here on the internet that merely will themselves to survive any situation. Of course people can survive a long time without guns but your odds go up drastically with one. Unless you know of a great way to kill things 100 yards away then just let me know. Knowing how tough you are you would probably just shoot lightning bolts from your ass

      I never said I disliked them. I just do not understand why so many of them feel the need to shit all over Americans for liking guns. I don't even have a concealed carry permit because I don't feel the area I live in poses significant dangers. Too many foreigners want to stereotype Americans as bloodthirsty cowboys when in reality the majority of gun owners just shoot holes in paper at the range. It is just weird because car guys never get accused of being dangerous even though some of them build cars that go extremely fast and could kill people if used improperly.

    Doesn't look like any sort of 'bug out' cabin. Looks more like an old miners or hunters cabin. Nice find. I'm sure you're not the only one to have found it in the past 20 years however. Nor do I think it hasn't been used in 20 years. Nonetheless.. pretty cool to stumble upon something like that. "Permitted" or not. Nothing wrong with this. National forest / park land technically belongs to the people anyway.
    To all the people wondering why he carries a pistol, you obviously haven't spent any time in the woods. That's bear, bobcat and mountain lion country. I never venture into the woods without mine on my hip. If it's national forest or national park area, there may be laws against shooting (as in target shooting) however it's perfectly legal to carry and frankly you'd be foolish not to. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

    Badass!! If you don't go waist high or lower, build yourself something with a watch tower/shooting range. I personally have chosen to go low and build low into a hill on my bug out property for "invisibly". After listening to all the extreme Military survival specialists, I see the sense in being low and blending in. People will be looking for cabins and bug out places, the untrained will be looking for them at eye level, at least that knocks out some predators. Let me know if you get it, you are already badass with your jeep, this would just take you to a new level. :)

      was going to post the same. When in doubt, take a look at the coffee can or other packaging for best buy dates. The amount of debris on the roof makes me think maybe a season since it was cleared off. That chair alone after two seasons of exposure would be falling apart.
      Wearing a gun is not a bad idea. It is not uncommon for illegal pot farming to be back in the woods, especially with a source of water. Depending on where you are. They pack illegals across the boarder, put em in little ramshackles like that and they grow huge fields, And they do NOT like visitors. However, they do like native brands and all the packaging I saw in the video is american.

      The Hills Brothers coffee can is only a year or two old; there's no rust on it. Same thing for that Winston carton: it's almost brand new! With that stream right there, that box should be molding and the can rusting fairly quickly. Maybe the owner has abandoned it, but that shack is still getting regular visits.

    cool video. thanks for sharing. I read through some comments and I just want to say, I'm not a survivalist or a hunter but I'm guessing a lot of the commenters aren't either. Several mention they think it's not abandoned due to things like no debris on the crapper and the modern blue container. It doesn't take a lawyer to know that abandoned property may be squatted on (that's a legal term meaning illegally residing) by people passing through. So they used the crapper and brought a blue barrel. Sounds like grizzlypeak had it on pretty good authority from the town folk that it was abandoned. As for the tire, that did look a bit like a large Phillips gouge.

      Water systems are like the highways of the bush. If you’re lost, you can typically follow one in hopes of finding a way out. Even if you don’t find a way out, you have water right there to hydrate. So if you put your bugout cabin near water, you would have a higher chance of someone stumbling by and finding it.

True land ownership means free from having to pay property taxes. As long as we are forced to pay off the slugs at the IRS we will never own anything. We just manage it for the government and instead of them paying us to manage it, we pay them. Sounds a bit backwards doesn't it?
