The worms should be happy in the roomy builders bag. We have two of them on the go as lazy compost systems that pre-compost material before we add it to our thermophilic compost piles. I bet there's worms in ours too!

I’m hoping their be happy as it’s very easy and simple and I can scale it up if I wanted

Great idea for the worms. I don't know if you've seen him but Captain Matt, here on CZcams, does the same as that, he's using 1 ton bags to make worm castings for sale, there's plenty of good advice on there. I have the same problem as you, but it's not with adult worms escaping, they're in a big box so can't get out. When I look into the box, all I can see is juvenile and baby worms. I'm hoping all the adults are in the bottom away from the light. I've just emptied my manure/compost heap and there were thousands of adult worms right at the bottom. Good luck with the bag method, I'll be watching with interest.

Very interesting development and should work well, and will be great to follow its progress.

I have large galvanised planters that I put my mulch in and I insulated them with wood and some foam insulation my neighbour a builder gave me and lined with a large builders bag for the same reasons you talk about, I started the worm bins by just throwing some worms in Feb this year and it's a mass of worms now..
Those rasberries are seeking out all that compost you have, a tribute to your compost :)
If you can insulate under you'll have a shed load of worms adults if you can keep above 19 degrees producing every 30 days (ish) Imagine your leaf mold with 100k of worms :)

Yeah I need to plan ahead really and get some sort of insulation sorted and ready to go

@@SmallholdingUK So the insulation is so that they keep producing baby worms and munching through the winter those 5k worms could be 20k or more end of winter if it's kept warm. :)

Another thing I was thinking of trying if it gets freezing is I have a couple of 12v heat pads I can run off my solar system and thought about surface heating of the centre of the bins, what’s your thoughts ?

@@SmallholdingUK Ahhh yes I was going to say what about some heat pads I wasn't sure if you had a power sourse.
I'm using a large hot hotwater bottle. Tonight, jeez my worms are better off than me ;)

Yeah I’ve got a 100w panel with 2x110amp/h batteries so I can run low amp stuff the 2 heat pads run at 0.6 amp I think
Yeah your worms are pampered 😂

I saw a video where they breed it in an old bathtub with a solid cover, maybe you can try that
