Thank you! Was going to ask if anybody knew the line-up. Like, that's some fierce bass. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Prince, but I sure like that it was people playing together vs 1 multi-tracking like we're all doing lately.
Ok I have been a Prince fan for 43 years and This is the first time I have had the honor of hearing this. WOW. Yes. Yet another gift from his Majesty. This one is special though. I have been a professional musician for over 30 years and this is the first time I have ever 'jammed with Prince' my gawd I am having the time of my life. These pieces are bringing things out of me through my guitar that are beautiful. I am free! I think this came to me tonight because I am ready to have it. Again, thank you Prince.
I would say you have your fingertips on the pulse of the fact that the Man was not only an Iconic musician, but a teacher or should I say professor as well, and using this as a backing track was a great gift from Prince that he left behind for us. Thanks for having the good musical smarts to enlighten us. I just need to decipher the keys to play cross harp. Any help would be appreciated. ..will try the chromatic till then.
Hey Robert, Dig, you gotta check out N.E.W.S. by Prince if you have not already....I think it will stretch the limits of your creativity and your guitar strings as well. ..Nuthin but the best !!
I saw Prince live on several occasions. I have never seen anyone that so completely fulfilled their musical existence. He was born to be a conduit of music. About this Jam session: Usually I find that musicians that can perform on a higher level like this would not be interested in writing or performing pop music. Take for example someone like Buddy Rich who thumbed his nose at anything that wasn't Jazz. One of Prince's great strengths was to write great pop records (and do them well), but then in a live performance inject all kinds of elements into those songs that might otherwise become only re-performances of the record. He also seemed to know at which concert to turn-up the other elements (smaller venues, fan-based shows) and when to just "wow" with the hits. You also never seemed to get the same version of any song at a show, it was musically fresh and often better every time!
He loved Amsterdam and holland in general to play live , I saw him in Amsterdam promoting his first Album in the club called Jazz land for three dollars 18 years old in 1980 I was sold ,already had his album but from there I knew lovely person to what a ride .
I never saw Prince but I think there are a number of high level musicians who crossed over into the pop world and had hits. Like George Benson, Tom Browne, Patrice Rushen (who I saw recently in London) and others. It was a unique period in musical history.

We said hello to each other on 23th and Chelsea in the Village, one summer afternoon. So pretty unforgetable, I am too sad about his absence! May he make music in HEAVEN FOREVER!
I wish we had heard this music at the beginning of Prince's career, but it's pretty clear why we didn't if you put the time in context. Warner Bros. Records was signing this incredible musical prodigy to an unprecedented 3 album deal around this exact time and they wanted a "the new Stevie Wonder"-sized return on their investment. Releasing fusion-jazz-funk albums wasn't going to make that happen. So, this just went into the vault so Prince could focus on becoming a bankable soul-pop star. All of this notwithstanding, these recordings are a stunning insight into Prince's unassailable genius that was already fully-formed from the beginning. I truly want this material to be officially released. I'm dying to hear it in pristine sound quality on my home stereo.

I've seen Prince 3 times in concert he played in one concert more than a dozen instruments, he was a genius, so sad that he is not alive anymore...but he has left his fantastic music for us to play forever, nice gift - Thank you PRINCE!!!
I don't own a single Prince record - my brother's the Prince fan - but I would have spent my paper route money on this if it has come out back then, bought the cassette through the record club, and the CD reissue!
I think his music collaborations ,would have been a great experience for him , He was in love with expressing himself in sounds and was uniquely made to give 🎉
Prince's instrumental work is underappreciated.. N·E·W·S is my favorite Prince album and I feel it is among his best work but totally flew under most people's radars.
The mind-blowing improvised funk sessions feature a 19 year old Prince on keys/guitar, Andre Cymone on bass, and Bobby Z on drums, held in the Loring Park office rehearsal room of Prince’s first manager, Owen Husney. Prince also takes on drums and bass throughout the session, switching it up for a thoroughly impressive session. This is a must-listen for any fan! These eight instrumental tracks sound more like well-crafted compositions rather than the improvised jams that they are.
Thank U 4 sharing!!! This should B heard by ALl!!! So they 2 will know just how talented our hometown boy was!!! There will never B another like him!!! He was a gift from God!!!💜💜💜
I was there! I bought Princes 1st album, all instruments, all vocals played by him, Produced and mastered by him. I was blown away by his pure talent and I'm still in awe in 2020
It's amazing how you can hear bits and pieces of what would come a decade later but in a completely different, totally unique form and structure. It's priceless to hear his genius cutting its teeth on the sounds of that time and even some straight ahead Jazz.
Excellent. Thanks so much for posting this. It reminds me of a very different time. I remember really 'hearing' some of Princes instrumental work for the first time one dreary rainy day in a shop where the proprietress 'cranked' it a bit at my request (sole customer) ,and we both boogied for about 40 min. to the bumping shop stereo system, while she stocked shelves and I just hung out and watched the rain outside. I no longer thought of him as a pop musician after that. So good to revisit. Richness, depth, complexity, funk.
43 years an counting and still fresh today... this was recorded the year I was born , to grow up as a prince fan and to hear this knowing it's as old as me just adds to how truly great prince was... I always believed he was the goat , now after his passing it seems like he truly is earning that right , the deluxe cuts have been sensational and all this aswell... come on man no one can compare...r.i.p PRINCE thank you
I've mostly listened to Prince's hits, but this is absolutely amazing! So glad i found this. RIP Prince and thank you for everything. Your legacy will live on!
I never really liked Prince's music that played on the radio. I appreciate it was good just not my cup of tea. This however is a revelation to me. Totally up my alley!
W.0.W!!!!!!! Absolutely amazing vibe, groove, and melodic improv, with super-tight rhythm section…his Majesty’s finest gift, and to think he was 19! What a find…
I hope that people will respect him and recognise him as a great guitarist! He derservises our respect. Rest in Peace, Thanks for the music. Be with your God.
The cream always rises to the top, this guy is the Mozart of our generation, baptized and suckled the on the black tit of gut-level Funk, and it's beautiful how he was able to merge this side within his Pop, Rock, Soul, and taste of Jazzy style to please and expand his fan base. The first time I heard, "I Wanna Be Your Lover', I thought it was Herbbie Handcock or some fucked out Jazz artist, similar to these cuts. There will not be anyone like him in our lifetime and judging from the course of today's music even if there is, he or she will probably go unnoticed. Thanks for Posting!
I would have never thought of Prince providing this type of 'lounge music'. It really defines him as a composer. We see him dance, sing and make outstanding fashion statements and get carried away with excitement of the 'show'. This man has given us nothing but top quality music from the beganing of his career til beyond his death. In will forever salute this artist/poet for his contribution to music. #PrinceForEver

@@reesedickerson6050 Oooo Any Prince Fan? Is there a competition?? And how dare you say such stupid things - Actually if you listen closely it hardly sounds like Prince. Don't be so elite and stupid at the same time.
@@reesedickerson6050 I agree with you, keyboards and guitar showing Princes signature riffs all over each song. Especially those early I wanna be you lover grooves. Prince repeated many of these riffs throughout his music decades after 1977.
He did this kind of stuff for his entire career. Madhouse, Xpectation, NPMGC soundchecks, N.E.W.S. Could have been a completely different type of artist if he'd chosen that path.
At that time, could You imagine a young Prince Roger Nelson hooking up with Roy Ayers, Lonnie Liston Smith,Herbie Hancock or even Earth Wind And Fire . Hearing this 1977 album makes sense to why Maurice White wanted Prince to join Earth Wind and Fire. He knew this young musician was a genius.
With all do respect Maurice White and Verdine White were actually assigned to Produce Prince's first album ...but Prince didn't want to go down that rabbit hole of top 40.. , Although He had much respect for Maurice and Verdine,Prince wanted to bring in control of his own ideas and creations... Sounds like he knew what was best for him!!! I find it so appreciative and grateful that we are blessed listen to his early pieces and appreciate the dedication and hard work and "Talent" the young prodigy sacrificed so we could have a like long catalog of compositions.
Mind blown. Not surprised at all, but still amazed at his versatility. Funk, jazz, rock, hip hop, ballads... whatever, he did it. One of the greats. Arguably the greatest.
To tell the truth, I seriously doubt this is all Prince. I hearing too much harmonic sophistication in the keyboards not demonstrated at all in his later work.....which makes absolutely no sense unless he was a jazz musician sellout who dumbed down his chord progressions for the masses because he wanted to get rich....which is entirely possible too.
@@CribNotes WB kept this stuff buried and likely told him to dumb it down so they could make money from his music. He actually attempted to bring a lot of stuff out of the vault but the label wasn't having any bit of it, from what I read in a book about him.
@@rockguitarist931 Prince had the same trouble with Warner Bros that Frank Zappa did.....they were not permitted to release material as fast as they wanted to. Record labels want to milk the sales from one album for at least a year before the next one comes out.
If this is Prince.....he's probably playing bass or guitar on these tracks which he didn't write, cause there's no way he has the drum chops or the keyboard chops for the jam that starts @ 17:46. Sounds more like George Duke on keyboards than Prince. And I have never heard Prince ever......ever play drums like a top notch jazz fusion drummer. No way.
@@CribNotes It’s better not release six albums a year. Look at Elvis Costello. He’s choked the market with dozens of useless albums, some released every six months or something ridiculous.

I've seen Prince 3 times in concert he played in one concert more than a dozen instruments, he was a genius, so sad that he is not alive anymore...but he has left his fantastic music for us to play forever, nice gift - Thank you PRINCE!!!
Where has this been my whole life?
Amazing score !
He played all of the instruments in these productions. What an amazing dude!
Not in this case. Here he plays keys and guitar, but he indeed played all instruments on his first albums (and many others)
Most people never realized how accomplished a musician Prince was. They remember the pop genre, the gyrating movie stage scenes and his lyrics...
Sweet! No commercials on this one...
Being a lover of funk, this is some of my favorite Prince 🙏
Best Prince ever
Yes! This is the reason why I love Prince. Not so much a fan of the less funky but more commercially popular hits.

I'm a big Prince fan. This has solidified after this. Pure genius.
Truly one of the great ones out there. Great jazz & funk fusion. 🎊Prince will never be forgotten ♥️
The man was way too amazing for this world! 💟
This is probably why he became succesfull, this FUNK hits the whole spectrum! The early tapes are simply the evidence he was a genius!
Prince was one hell of a musician.
Fantastique !!! Top groovy, top funky.
Holy fuck this needs to be released on every platform ever
I don't own a single Prince record - my brother's the Prince fan - but I would have spent my paper route money on this if it has come out back then, bought the cassette through the record club, and the CD reissue!
Clean it up dude. Prince wasn't about that kind of vulgarity !
Man I love this!! RIP Prince, you will always be one of the best musicians that have ever walked this earth.
How have I never heard this? Incredible jams. Prince is a legend among musicians.
His dad played jazz so it’s a natural
I think his music collaborations ,would have been a great experience for him ,
He was in love with expressing himself in sounds and was uniquely made to give 🎉
Wow! The drums and bsseline are mind-blowing
Makes you want to get up and move! So tight! All three of them are impeccable players, especially the bassist!
Prince's instrumental work is underappreciated.. N·E·W·S is my favorite Prince album and I feel it is among his best work but totally flew under most people's radars.
Thanks for the tip. I myself am a fan of his Rainbow Children album. It's just criminal that casuals only know Prince from his Purple Rain era.
the Venus De Milo piano piece out of Under The Cherry Moon 🔥🔥
@@getRACKed And Alex de Paris... briliant....
Madhouse's 8 will be at my funeral one day.
@@aquamarine99911 Totally agree, as both N.E.W.S. & THE RAINBOW CHILDREN are high on my list of favorite Prince albums!
I was blown away by his pure talent and I'm still in awe in 2020
Prince - For You, my favorite is "Soft and Wet" - czcams.com/video/Aq7ddhSGOSE/video.html
So blessed you are...yes indeed 🌬🕊💜
Me too. Bought it in 1977 when I was 15 only handful of people knew about him
Same here been a fan since FOR YOU 1978
Mastered by Bernie Grundman, but otherwise yes
Hit play and let it ride... Love his vibes here. Feels like a conversation without the weight of words; zero pause in communication though. Beautiful
It’s like we all wrote a big book in one hour
In my opinion this is WAY better than any of his 'pop' tracks/ albums. Thats just my opinion. He should have stayed with the funk!
well the funk doesnt pay the bills....but it deffinetly makes you shake your booty, even on an empty stomach!!!!!

43 years an counting and still fresh today... this was recorded the year I was born , to grow up as a prince fan and to hear this knowing it's as old as me just adds to how truly great prince was... I always believed he was the goat , now after his passing it seems like he truly is earning that right , the deluxe cuts have been sensational and all this aswell... come on man no one can compare...r.i.p PRINCE thank you
Bro I’m 43 too! I though For You was his first album! My cousin put me on this! I’m glad that we made it here to this realm!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥
The G.O.A.T. indeed!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I've mostly listened to Prince's hits, but this is absolutely amazing! So glad i found this. RIP Prince and thank you for everything. Your legacy will live on!
same this so dope I hope more
I hate his hits. this is where he shines imo
Prince majesty as an almost unreal good pop music maker, singer, instrumentalist, arranger and producer.
This sounds a lot like those fusion albums Jeff Beck made in the 70s. Good stuff!
Get over yourself.

"Herbbie Handcock" Ah you sexy motherfuckah!
I love Prince to death, but the genius of Mozart is incomparable.
This was a badass fkn comment 🔥
I would have never thought of Prince providing this type of 'lounge music'. It really defines him as a composer. We see him dance, sing and make outstanding fashion statements and get carried away with excitement of the 'show'. This man has given us nothing but top quality music from the beganing of his career til beyond his death. In will forever salute this artist/poet for his contribution to music. #PrinceForEver

Audio Pervert man that is a great musical assessment. I’m hearing a Billy Preston influence as well, with the additional processing on the Rhodes.

Don't be so elite and stupid at the same time.
@@reesedickerson6050 I agree with you, keyboards and guitar showing Princes signature riffs all over each song. Especially those early I wanna be you lover grooves.
Prince repeated many of these riffs throughout his music decades after 1977.
André Cymone showed up! Brought his FONKY bass with him. Lawd!
This is gold.
Man...CYMONE is a bad dude. Should be up there with greats
He did this kind of stuff for his entire career. Madhouse, Xpectation, NPMGC soundchecks, N.E.W.S. Could have been a completely different type of artist if he'd chosen that path.

And this was recorded in 1977? What a genius!
this the grooviest Funky jazz I have listened to so far.. A very skilled and talented musician
So happy I found this! Saved and absolutely keeping this on loop for my work groove! Thank the heavens we still have his music!

@@user-sh4tn7iv9f arguably...
Agreed!
This is amazingly awesome. And while we did get all of his hits and pop tunes, i still feel like we missed out by not getting more of THIS.
Pure funk fire! His live performances are on the next next next level, with only James Brown as energetic and as insisting in pure excellence from band mates. MAESTRO manifested.

So much talent. I live everyday of my life listening to hard rock and roll and have my entire life but the impact that purple rain had on this poor white boy was nothing short of an obsession.
