- Richard Harris & Peter O'Toole at The European Rugby Cup Final, 2000.
Richard Harris (1930 - 2002), a talented rugby player was on several Munster Junior and Senior Cup teams for Crescent, and played for Garryowen.
Harris might have become a provincial or international-standard rugby player, but his athletic career was cut short when he caught tuberculosis in his teens.
He remained an ardent fan of Munster Rugby and Young Munster until his death, attending many of their matches with the actors and fellow rugby fans Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton.
Peter O'Toole is a noted fan of rugby union, and used to attend Five Nations matches with friends and fellow rugby fans Richard Harris, Kenneth Griffith, Peter Finch and Richard Burton. (O'Toole, Harris and Burton have a combined 17 Oscar nominations.) He is also a lifelong player, coach and enthusiast of cricket, of which O'Toole is licensed to teach and coach.
The last 5 seconds of the video where O'Toole has his arm wrapped around Harris.....that silhouette is legendary. Two old friends who lived to the fullest!!
So beautiful
Ah yes…..old friends…nothing like them
The world is a duller place without these two legends, we shall never see their like again, sadly.
@@ollbo200010 So what if they enjoyed a drink, that was their perogative.
In hollywood maybe, but NOT in life, these guys are in every GOOD bar all over the world.
@@johnsmind I'm not talking about real life, and no guys like this are not in every good bar in the world, these are acting legends. Drunks in bars are two a penny.
Icons the pair. Old Lion's
For the Ages. Magnificent actors and men.
I hope somewhere out in the universe that these two are singing together again this night!
Robert Cousland perfectly said
Sad coment fuck you. They dont give a fuck
@@branislavkarlicic1207 Good grief....
@@branislavkarlicic1207 Get laid soon, twat!
Oh I hope so
Is there a single person who did not smile during this video? I was smiling ear to ear. So full of life these men. RIP
Had the absolute pleasure of driving Mr O'Toole on numerous occasions during the mid 90's when he was in a play on Shaftesbury Avenue in London.. Truly lovely man who was not only charming, but said hello to EVERY fan waiting at the stage door of the theatre after the show.. Wonderful.
Thats how to grow old!!.... never grow old....
Iain L Looks pretty pathetic to me to be drunk at that age. Alcoholism is not a good way to live your life.
@@megadave1197 they lived a more interesting life than 99.9% of people on earth, so they did pretty well
@@megadave1197 Beats being sober
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams................
A friendship like this is eternal
These guys were gods, they could get drunk and cause havoc, and always got away with it because they were nice, funny, and they had CLASS and MANNERS, unlike many buffons of nowadays who call themselves actors but are pathetic. Harris, O'Toole, Burton, Reed, Bates, Finney, Hemmings... the hellraisers of the cinema. Rest in Peace.
Don’t forget Christopher Plumber from Canada
We should all learn about living life from these two guys. Burned their candles from both ends several times over. The world is duller without them.
"My lords - we're off!!" Farewell to these two truly fascinating people. Richard Harris in his "flash chemise", and Peter O"Toole in his green socks. Thanks forever to whomever posted this. I view it whenever I'm feeling down. It always makes me smile.
I loved that line, too. Also, the fiddle music shows off just where American bluegrass fiddle got its roots, since so many Irish immigrants ended up in Appalachia.
Just a pair of drunks.
@@geoffpoole483 with decades of film and stage work to their credit.
Two truly great ...as actors and as drinking mates ....I miss them both. I wish them all the best wherever they are. Thank you guys.
Two great actors and lovers of life, wild men both, and sadly missed. They don't make 'em like this these days.
That made my day.
Such an enthusiast Richard Harris and a funny Peter O'Toole.
I want them back...
jesus lads i had the privilege back in the 90's to buy o'toole a drink ... fucking always remember .. bitter shandy was all he'd take .. man had the most piercing blue eyes you ever saw .. good sport .. nice fucking man
Imagine if either of these two were your grandad. You'd never stop hanging out with them.
Didn’t these two give birth to Michael Fassbender?
As a Welshman, what wouldn't any man give to just have a few moments or a pint in the company of these two true Irish legends (now an overused word, but not in this instance), the most wonderful, heart warming, video, thank you for sharing. Both are Hero's.
❤
I love Richard Harris, he is one of my favourite actors.
What a fantastic pair of True friends
Peter O Toole was insanely proud of being Irish, and it was a badge of honor growing up in England proclaiming you were Irish.
And they have him in Wikipedia as " an Englisch actor".😫 He wouldn't like that.
@King Royal O' Tool was Irish who spent the war years in England. He never said he was English.
@King Royal you have to tell him that. He thinks He was born in Ireland 🤣
@King Royal czcams.com/video/CNwFhLBrCeU/video.html
I am pretty sure he knows best.
War years only in England.
@King Royal born 1932, 2nd August in Conemara. The war was much later.
True Irish heroes.
Richard Harris agus Peter O'Toole go deo.
Their genius is surpassed only by their vigour. Unsurprisingly moving footage of two real friends, whose combined life experience would enthral a generation, on the lash at the match. fabulous, precious images. Only O'Toole left to us now; treasure him and celebrate him while you can. Start by tying one on on August 2nd, his birthday, with as many good mates as you can muster.
R.I.P Richard and Peter.
This is truly beautiful, the love between Peter and Richard is so strong, that they should have been brothers or twins. A wonderful strong bond exists between them as they have both lived each others wild lives!.
RIP to these amazingly talented two hell raisers,Peter and Richard who's souls are still burning brightly on the other side
True friendship goals right here!
So incredible to see those two together!
I can't love this enough... the last shot of them, arm and arm is blessed.
Does a heart so good to watch this! I hope they're tipping back a few pints tonight!! :^)
Two of the greatest livers in cinema history 👏
Richard Harris the kind of icon, legend and talent that makes me so happy to be Irish. He inspires me to live life to the fullest so that I can come out with a few stories to tell.
i tell you why i like harris, because hes a tough bastard and i admire him, he lived his life well and he didnt care what anyone thought of him, he had fun, he knew how to have fun, n nowadays you see people who are too scared to let go and just go crazy and have a good time, he was fearless and im only young still, i saw him first in the count of monte cristo and now i watch his older films, i like to think of them as hidden gems because he was a great man, and a good role model for livin life
I'm afraid Richard Harris and Peter otoole they don't make them like that any more R.i.P
They do. They just don’t pay them.
My god, this is just BEAUTIFUL! A funny and touching look at genuine friendship.
I wouldn't recommend their lifestyles to anyone, but god bless Peter O'Toole, he's still hanging in there at almost 80...after what he put his body through, it's remarkable.
Glorious. Wild men with style and humour raving at close of day, refusing to go gentle into that good night; not just bad boring drunks like Mr Crowe looking for someone to thump.
Rex Mundi to be fair to him Russell crowe is pretty embarrassed about his past stupidity, and he's a man of rugby too so I wouldn't be too harsh on him
But Crowe is from Australia... not Ireland. o.O
@@burnbobquist8999 hes from Irish stock!
When Crowe and Harris made Gladiator Harris asked Crowe to come to Ireland and have a pint in his local. Sadly Harris passed away but Crowe still came over and had a beer in Harris's local. He also came over when there was a statue unveiled in Harris's honour. Just think you should know that before you down Russel Crowe.
LOL they loved their drink right up to the very end.
Glad they lived such long lives.
As a south african i enjoyed this, beautiful rugby spirit!
Juan, since you posted this kind tribute South Africa have again been crowned worthy world winners greetings from Ireland
Lank lewe die bokkies
Their friendship is both legendary and adorable. Both two magnificent actors who were great raconteurs as well.
What a pair!!They have given so much to cinema and to ALL of us.💚
Rest In Paradise lads; on the other hand, CARRY ON! What fun, thanks Conor, for sharing.
Legends who loved a drink, just like me
R.I.P
"We're at Twinkenham sweetheart, they're gonna kick off."
Why can't todays actors be this cool!
RIP, the both of you. :(
I love when they walk off at the end arm in arm.
absolutely brilliant, wish I could have had a pint or two with these men, imagine the stories they would tell!
swiss irish I think Harris was a teetotaller by this time?
@@megadave1197 he became a member of Alcoholics Anonymous - so he could drink under an assumed name!
I think he was sober for over a decade, but eventually resolved just to abstaining from spirits, and would periodically embibe beer.
SixteenTonesStudio Yes jus read that. So basically he went back to being an alcoholic then.
@@megadave1197 Whatever; beats being a lib.
@@v-town1980 They were both liberals
Sweet! There is an excellent book about these guys called "Hellraisers". It chronicles the misadventures of Harris, O'Toole, Oliver Reed, and Richard Burton. It's one of those books that you can pick up on any page and be entertained!
The good'ol days...back when the men were men and the sheep were nervous!
And smart-mouthed women twice as nervous.
O'Toole was asked on one of the talk shows (Charlie Rose, I think) what he would like on his epitaph. He said, "It distresses us to return work that is not perfect."
Imagine a drink n the craic n game with these two? i heard they used to involve Burton when playing wales!
What a wonderful video. Doesn't it make you wish you could have known these two amazing people? How charming, how talented, what great friends! I miss them both so much.
Drinking with them in a pub yes, living or working with them no!?!
Excellent. Thanks for sharing. Two much missed legends
Clever and brilliant actors
EVERYTHING the wonderful Mr Harris said is ringing so true, about Limerick men and most of all why English soccer has "gone to Hell"
It's hard to believe men like this were actually real. Just incredible people who lived the most amazing lives.
Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris and Oliver Reed, The three greatest Irishmen you could ever wish to meet. (Well OK, two Irishmen and one honorary Irishmen) Now united in the great pub in the sky
Don't for get the honorary Irishman Robert Shaw
Reed was Mr. England and Harris was Mr. Ireland.
Reed had abandoned UK and took to living in Ireland where real hellraisers come from - honorary Irish man.
RIP kings of the stage.
yes. kings
This was beautiful, simply beautiful!
this is glorious. these two legends the real deal!!
What a great film ! :-) Peter O'Toole & Richard Harris - you'll be always in my heart ! :-)
A breed now gone, yes we miss Richard Burton...and Lawrence Olivier. 🏠🤗🇺🇸🇬🇧🇩🇰🗽🙏
R. I. P Peter! and Richard! Old School Classics! Legends! 😎👍
Great men like Peter and Richard are part of why I'm proud to be a descended from Irish blood. Two magnificent men and actors, from that age when men were rough and playful and driven and loved to have fun over drinks.
I hope that when my time comes and I go to Heaven, I have a chance to shoulder up to the bar at the local and have a pint of Guinness with Peter and Richard. Here's to you, gents. RIP.
My Uncle Joe Nestor was one of Richard Harris's best lifetime friends in Limerick and played rugby together
Two legends of the stage and screen. But also two legends of the lash. If only Finch, Burton and Reed could have been there
A pair of great down to earth men, wonderful actors that are greatly missed.
So sad they have gone. Ireland will miss them.
America also misses them
America will miss them to. harris said his family was glad he left for the U.S HAHAHA
RIP to two greats!
Legends!!!!
As a movie buff and rugby enthusiast I say: IT CANNOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!! Who needs the Oscars when you can have this! RIP Mr. Harris
These gents were the U.K. "ratt pak " . I am discovering and watching movies these two did all the time here in the U.S. on turner classic. These two are my favorite ever. So gifted and talented yet lived life to the extreme.
2 Irishmen don’t let Peters accent confuse you so they’re not uk lads
@matskigudjohnson Listen here you flaming fucking asshole, throwing misjudged insults, its not about nationalities or citizenships, I am fully aware Harris and O' toole were Irish. But they chose to live in, were trained as actors in, did their hard partying in, and were highly known celebrities in and all around the UK, The original U.S rat pack contained Peter Lawford who was English, but lived in the states and was absolutely a member.
@@slainemccool2875 I am aware of that but Thanks anyway.
How lovely to see people kindly enjoying each other's company with no silly rules about what can be said, thought, done - just fun!
"I've been drinking and I'm seldom sober." No truer words have been spoken.
It's great to see camaraderie like that, enjoying life to the fullest.
wonderful normal day out for the boys great post jve
Harris, Burton, and O'Toole. great artists. they lived and played hard.
"Seldom sober" I can believe that FANTASTIC
Nice to see how they loved one another.

Harris and burton holding court in that great Irish bar in the sky,the door swings ajar as o'toole struts in.what took you so long you auld fecker it's your round next.
I wish I could live the crazy life these two had! ... :-)
What incredible, stylish, intelligent, roaring men.
They can sing together again.
Best one-leg takedown I've ever seen! O'Toole is a smooth old bugger. Superb.
Two lads from the old sod enjoying the odd pint and remembering the day that have gone by but never forgotten.
Nothing but love.

Legends, God rest their Merry Souls...
This video reminds me of my dad and uncle drinking, joking and singing around the kitchen table after coming back from a pub crawl. Grand stuff.
Two legends actors loves drinking & good time. RIP heroes
I Can't believe it! My two most admired actors of all time together in real life -- not in a movie.
They were very good friends, with much in common. Outrageous, hilarious Irishmen burned out by alcohol. They died sober, but the stories they had . . .
Yes. They were great friends, from acting school when both were young all the way up to Richard Harris' death.
I could listen to voices like theirs for ever ...
Thanks for posting
R.I.P. they were Great !!!
Beautiful
Two great men, Richard Harris the quintessential Rugby Man, They are so greatly missed,
Oh God, they harmonize horribly! Priceless.
Ghod, this is priceless! I believe this is the only footage of these old friends appearing together.
Savor this classic moment!
I had the remarkable chance of working with Peter on Lord Jim. Becket and The Lion In Winter.
Richard on Triumphs Of A Man Called horse and Tarzan..with Bo....they were just outrageously funny and such a hoot to work with..
