    What I found that works wonders is using my Weber Chimney with my leafblower. Trust me, I had no idea how it would work but I decided to try it and immediately noticed how it was feeding the air like a bellows. You aim for the bottom and it catches the air blows it upward. Looks like a furnace. I put on a medium speed and it takes me about 2 minutes to get my coals going. The only drawback is that embers tend to fly around but other than that, it's awesome!

    My regular Weber chimney starter is super reliable just using one of those wax cubes from them. It takes a little while to get the coals hot and ashed over, but I use that as last minute prep time or to just have a beer or two. This looks great for if I was in a rush or something, but I generally grill and BBQ to relax and have a good time. Still a nice option though.
    Cheers, Troy, and love the new intro.

      Yeah, we just used the weber chimney on a grate, and let the Dragon blow under it to speed up the time. It would be hard to get use to a smaller chimney. A full load in the Weber is usually just the right amount for a Weber kettle

    In regards to to the two chimneys, I can't justify the cost difference between them. The Weber is $14.00 vs the Dragon (with the fan) is close to the$70.00 mark. Anyway You and Baby Back Maniac (Jason) find a way to get your own television cooking show , I'd definitely watch it.

    I recently did this. When mine were red hot and white, I learned two things. First, when I dumped the charcoal onto the grill, it was obvoius one container of charcoal was not enough for even my relatively small grill. Anyone using a device like this should use two of them simultaneously. The Weber one is expensive, so if I would have known this I would not have purchased it. Second, the charcoal was only hot for about five minutes. After that, the heat started declining. After about ten minutes, the heat was virtually gone - except for one small part of the grill. It was overall very disappointing.

    No thanks, I’ll stick with my Weber.

    I just use a lil bit of cooking oil in a half cut soda can with a piece of paper towel, light it, and place the coals around and a few on top. Works every time. 😏

    Still needs 2+ min w/dragon for some top coals to get ashed...saved 7 min overall compared to the weber that's good to go....I don't think that's a deal breaker for need to be in a hurry....if you smoke time is all you got...if you needed a couple seared rare steaks in record time....well I guess.

  • @nyanates

    Now repeat this test using a full Weber chimney volume of charcoal in each until fully lit. I predict the timings are comparable for equivalent volumes. The less muss and fuss of the Weber and greater volume of grilling ready charcoal per lighting will win out in most folks’ books.

    When your bbq- n this is the best part. Hopefully you have all your prep done and the gap between ignition and placing whatever you have prepared on the grill is a time to take in some smoke, the moment and a cold one or two. Why rush it ?

    I like that fan in that Dragon, but I can't ever remember not having a need for that extra 10 minutes. Do a video on using alcohol soaked cotton balls. Cheap, and they work. 5, or 6, cotton balls well placed and it works like any other lighter, with no smoke form the starter. Briquets, or lump.

      @TheFlatlander440 Před 6 lety

      I noticed that as well with the Dragon. I live in rural Vermont on 20 heavily wooded acres and during the summer it's very dry here. Starting a grass fire which could easily spread into a forest fire on my property from those embers flying around would not be a fun time.

    • @sjeditor
      @sjeditor Před 6 lety +2

      If you live in dry areas susceptible to fires then you shouldn't be charcoal grilling during fire season. Some county's even prohibit you from doing so. Be smart people

    • @TheFlatlander440
      @TheFlatlander440 Před 6 lety +1

      Where I reside, we're not that susceptible to forest fires since we do get some rain every week. I'm still careful with a working garden hose and a fire extinguisher when I grill out. If there is any doubt, I use my gas grill on the screened in porch.

    • @chrissewell1608

    New to grilling! My new grill/smoker is still in the box that my husband gifted me yesterday as a early Valentines day. QUESTION: What exactly doew a chimney starter do? It it avoid using lighter fluid? What makes it so much more beneficial vs. the old traditional way of starting your grill? Sorry for so many questions, I'm just trying to learn it all, especially when it comes to what I 100% need vs what I want. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
