    Folding pole trailers are a standard in East Tx/La. Back up with trailer brakes on and fold up. Winch does the rest.

    I’ve drove a few R model Mack’s in my time . It’s a different ball game on shifting those trucks. They are tough trucks.

    • @stevencaka1360

      I agree. Grew up in and around those kind of Mack trucks. Still good solid trucks

    That’s cool to see an old Logging Truck that’s not torn up. And self loading too. Normally trucks with similar set ups have the loader unload the dolly at the job site and then have another loader put the dolly back up on the truck at the mill.

    • @austingillenwater2816
      @austingillenwater2816 Před rokem

      That's a completely different setup than what you see here. The west coast loggers that you're talking about, the front bolsters are mounted to the truck instead of a fifth wheel and the trailer hooks to a pindle hook at the back of the frame on the truck. The setup we use that you see in the video is a folding pole trailer.

  • @austingillenwater2816

    I live in Florida and my pawpaw has been hauling logs for 46 years and I've been hauling for 12 years since I turned 18 and we still use folding pole trailers almost everyday! Only time we don't pull them is when we need our 4 bolsters to haul double bunk tops and what not.

  • @HyperActive7
    @HyperActive7 Před 2 lety +1

    Seeing an 88 Mack in that condition is virtually unheard of because of what those trucks are used for. Was really cool to see the inside of it and the engine.

    Back in the 70s, you could buy a chrome spring that had a clamp on one end and a cap on the other. You would clamp them to the bumper corners. They stuck past the body and would rub on the curb to let you know you were close. I believe they were called curb feelers. The kickstand on that truck? He might be using it for that purpose?

    Lol Bruce is definitely lol Bruce is definitely a Florida man an not knowing much about them log trucks, the way they get up onto the truck is by the excavator who is loading the truck up, they load the trailer or unload the trailer depending on what they’re doing, whether it’s hauling to or coming from….. some of the fancy trucks up in the northwest have the hydraulic grapple built into the truck itself, it’s really cool to see them operate.!! Nice bud Bruce, I dig it.

    Mack rears built by Spicer. Drop in pumpkins made it easier, and with way yoke and input is they could keep linking axles together.

    So you guys haven't seen a log truck trailer? All over the NW up here. Some trucks have a "self loader" AKA built on hydraulic crane/ grapple, which can load/ unload the trailer as well as load logs. Otherwise the yarder/ other equipment at the log site unloads the trailer, then loads logs. Many mill yards have a trailer loader--a cage frame hoist device to lift trailer back onto truck. Unloading trailer:
    czcams.com/video/K6wS-ztMLok/video.html
    Loading trailer onto truck:
    czcams.com/video/3ouljbwW0nA/video.html
    Because of the way the tongue/ hitch is rigged, these trailers rear axles steer the thing to the outside of a turn, allowing operation on tight turns/ dozer built narrow log roads
