- This is a demo of the KingTone miniFUZZ by Jesse Davey.
The fuzz features a bias light which tells you when the bias is set correctly.
The amp is a Fender Quad Reverb (Fender Twin Reverb).
There is a little breakup coming from the amp but there are no other effects in the chain.
Never mind the fuzz.. Your playing is fantastic.
I got some Hendrix vibes from it
And the clean tone was also killer to begin with!
It’s definitely on my ever growing list of fuzz’s to buy!
The best fuzz I've ever owned by a very long shot!...I've owned lots of high end fuzz pedals over the years, never quite found the one until now. Great work in building this and great playing in the video too!
Absolutely stunning demo - showed all the features with some top notch playing!
Genius! Love the bias light idea!
The heat wave in Australia this Summer has my fuzzes all over the shop.
I got one of these today and it blows my mind! The best fuzz pedal I’ve ever played and built beautifully. Amazing stuff, thanks man.
Have you played either a analohman sunface or fulltone 69 mkii?
ShredwardNorton the 69 yes, sunface no
@@JJBMusic0 how does it compare with the minifuzz? I really am trying to figure out which one to go with between the minifuzz and the 69 more than anything. Thanks for your help!
ShredwardNorton to be honest I’ve been through a lot of fuzz pedals and struggled to get on with a lot of them. The miniFuzz is the first I’ve really enjoyed. Easy to dial in a great tone and the middle switch is partly the reason I think. I want to go straight to vintage but with my strat the full setting is great, with my ES-335 the zonk setting is great. The Fulltone 69 was a good pedal but I just didn’t get on with it. May be partly due to my amp (AC30) which isn’t great with pedals to be honest. I’m chuffed with the miniFuzz tho.
Man!!! I’ve had this pedal for a week now and just got to crank the amp up today to really test this pedal
out. This thing has monstrous tone! Best money I’ve spent in a long while!!! Gotta save up for that Dulliest now...
Duelist is also incredible you won’t regret it
His clean tone is all I need.
That VIBRATO though. Fantastic playing!
Germanium fuzz pedals have some of the most beautiful tones of the electric guitar. Very sax-like.
Such a lovely pedal. Best fuzz face I ever played.
Hendrix would have been so happy to meet you bud.... I'm sure... Best fuzz pedals ever
Absolutely glorious.
I have owned one for a few months already. It has become my go to pedal. I play almost exclusively a strat (sometimes a tele), and I am in love with SRV, Jesse, Dan Patlansky type of tone. The Ge fuzz is my main clean sound with the guitar volume rolled off, 'cleaner than clean' as the great one once said. I had a few fuzzfaces before, but this one is in a different league. The bias indicator is just brilliant. I am still discovering new sounds I can get from it. If I manage to save up some money, I will for sure try some other KingTone pedals ;-). I dream about the Octaland and the Dualist, someday...:-)
I have one & love it! I leave mine in the vintage setting & it works with my strat, tele, & les Paul!
Same for me! The boost just blew my amp and was too responsive to me tbh. Vintage is already a beast!
The best fuzz ever
Minute 9:20 I decided to buy this pedal and immediately placed an order!
...and just like that, my quest for the ultimate fuzz tone was fulfilled.
I bought this fuzz in Japan. I used a polarity reversal cable, but I couldn't supply power from CAJ's power supply. It is used with batteries in the effector board. The sound of the fuzz is the best.
Hey! Have you tried using an isolated power supply? Also you can contact us directly, we can sort this out for you no problem :)
I love the contrast of the soft classy voice speaking and the badass hairy guitar playing ! Ha ha ! Great pedal ! I saw it on the Philip Sayce instagram story and felt in love with the sound. But I still don't know if I have to buy this one or the Si.
you play like Stevie Ray Vaughan was the entire reason you picked up guitar, sounds soooo much like him! Great tone, fantastic playing. Thank you for the demo!!!!
One of the best demo I’ve seen. Just enough taking for all the information and great playing. 👍🏼
So I sold 9 of my pedals to afford your Duellist overdrive pedal (with some cash left over). It's awesome best drive pedal I've ever played and its finally a drive that sounds just as good with my les paul as my strat. Now that left over money is gone... I need this to pair with it!
Excellent demonstration gonna have to get me one👍🏽
This, the octaland, and the soloist are my dream pedals! Hopefully I'll get them... also...what a fantastic player you are!
The BEST fuzz pedal!
awesome video and playing Jesse!!
Damn it Jesse!! I thought I had the most killer germanium pedal on my board for my style. (Park Fuzz Sound... AC125) And then I bought one of these NKT275 jobbies and it knocked my Park off the board!!! So disappointed and elated at the same time. Thanks for an awesome pedal and that ultimate tone. (BTW... not gonna sell the PFS just in case)
Just got this one and am looking to get the Octaland mini next Great stuff Jesse...checking out the Blues Power too
Got the Octaland mini Good stuff
No doubt, THE BEST thing about good Ge Fuzzes are the cleans with the volume rolled down; my Zvex Fat Fuzz Factory is a one stop, all purpose, boost, drive , and fuzz.
Everything about this demo and the product is totally pro - I'm most impressed! Seriously shopping for a high-end fuzz - this one just jumped to the top of the short list. One thing though - could have used a little more emphasis on chording...
Crumbs you’ve thought of everything!!
Great video mate, awesome playing...
oh my that sounded immense!!
Brilliant demo, Jesse. [I love how 'touchy-feely' you are with... i was gonna say 'one of your _children,'_ but that sounds creepy.....].
Anyway-just this week, i re-discovered how spectacular it is to play a Strat through a Fuzz Face, with the Fuzz cranked, but the guitar volume at 7-8 for cleans. I pulled my Dunlop Mini Germanium out, and had a lot of fun with it. It sounds amazing. But, that only led me to wonder if it could be improved. And since i have your Duellist, i looked to you for a 'step up.' Ordered your *MiniFuzz Germanium* just minutes ago. Can't wait-
Fuzz-a-licious! I especially liked the ZONK at high bias and vintage with high noon settings. I also grooved on the Clapton-y SRV-ish EJ-like riffing with some ala King flavoring!
I love this pedal! Bought one a couple of weeks ago, and still dialing in many useful and killer tones. I have a treble bleed wired into my guitar and it’s too much when doing the rolled off clean tone. I can compensate by rolling off my tone almost all the way.
Delicate balance with every control affecting the others, but this thing is awesome!
druwk how's the noise floor at idle? Is it a noisy pedal?
For a Fuzz it is good, but it is not dead quiet. As long as your pickups are shielded in your guitar, you won’t have the “bad” Fuzz naughtiness.
There’s no noticeable hum while you’re playing. I like to adjust my guitar volume, and get different levels of distortion as I’m playing. I generally don’t live in maximum woofiness (max volume)? I have my treble bleed wired push/pull now. I don’t use it when I’m using Fuzz.
Still haven’t switched this pedal off my board (...have a bit of a Fuzz addiction), and still use it a lot!
Actually, quite like the Zonk setting a little under biased. I also haven’t found the best tones with everything pegged? It’s worth the time, learning how to dial it in. Totally recommend the pedal.
@@druwk thanks for the reply. I have to do the same to my bleed circuit which is perfect in my start. Thanks for your feed back. Sounds like I want one. 👍🍺
Absolutely perfect fuzz ...
Love it. Want it.
Actually I also want the octaland & duallist as well. You'll be hearing from me again soon about it.
You sold me one ;) i'll get the V2
Ok, so you just blew my mind here with this demo. My wallet just ran and hid, and is nowhere to be found : )
Both this and the SI version video are almost identical minus the couple short moments where the indicator light is mentioned. Should’ve spiced it up a little. My take is that the Germanium version sounds just a tad more present and articulate, but I’m not sure you can even hear that running it into a mostly distorted amp that you are calling your clean tone. Luckily you still completely slay at guitar and your pedals are phenomenal.
Cool. Will it also be possible to get that cool “clean sound”with guitarvolume rolled down with the vintage fuzz ?
Hi Jesse ! Excellent demo, not quite as good as mine though... :D :D I'm totally joking, no need to say ! This pedal's great, I'm really happy with it. Oh, and that flower power pattern in the background looks amazing btw, I just love it !! Cheers !
Nice playing brother!
Looks & sounds good!
Sounds like Gary Clarke Jnr! Great demo
Nice fuzz tone. But nice clean/overdrive tone as well.
Excellente Fuzz !! on my Pedalboard !
mine is in the mail on the way to me........
now to learn some of your licks so i can do the pedal some justice!
Great playing!
I like the tone of this pedal and considering it. I realize there has to be a price point and that many don't know or care, but the SMD build makes this a throw away pedal. Today's technology yes, but this is a boutique pedal with a boutique price tag for now.
Thanks for your question. We use through-hole parts for some of our pedals but intentionally use SMT for the miniFUZZ pedals. SMT parts us help to reduce noise and improve RF immunity. In most cases SMT parts are the same as through-hole parts but without the leads. Definitely not a throw away tech, in some ways it is more resilient and long lasting. There are also times where we feel through-hole parts work better or produce a superior tone and in that situation we always use them.
Yes, that's all just fine...but, which one do I like better, silicone or germanium one...
Good amp with good pedal
9:30 uhhh Stevie Ray called, he wants his tone back.
What if you made one that had selectable Germanium or Silicon ? I can't decide which one I like more.
This
Nice sounds however I would prefer fuzz on larger knob, volume & tone adjust on your ax right
treble bleed --> rolled off volume --> fuzz --> instant SRV.
Love the pedal, but what amp are you using? Spectacular clean sound! Let us know the the signal path for this demo. Tks.
The amp is in the video description... "Twin Reverb"
Is it clean ?
Ell of a player !!!
Love it!! Would be nice to hear how humbuckers sound.
I'll post something with Humbuckers shortly :)
@@jessetwohands what guitar/pickups were used here? thanks
Hi Jesse ! First of all thanks a lot for this amazing sounding fuzz pedal. I am absolutely in love with it and it looks super retro on my pedalboard! It's really flexible with tons of useable tone in various settings.
I have been using this pedal with a 9v Carbon Zinc battery since day 1. Just out of curiosity, I tried to use my Cioks Big John power supply with centre positive power lead on this pedal today but with no sucess. The bias LED light will turn on when I plug in the input jack together with the power supply .... but the moment I plug the output jack into the socket, the pedal will just automatically shut off. Just wondering is this normal or what could possibly the issue? Appreciate your help on this. Thanks : )
Hey! This issue is caused by sharing the DC power chain with other non center positive pedals. The pedal requires an isolated center positive cable. Hope that makes sense.
i love your roomy sound
I would love to know what type of connection to make to connect the red led that tells you when bias is correct, es simply fantastic!
Amazing ! Your clean sound in the video is played with the blues power ?
Hi Jesse,
Which fuzz gets glassier with the volume knob rolled back; this one or the silicon one? Which one gets brighter? Thanks
What an incredible fuzz and great demo. Just one question. Is the power positive earth ? King Tone is seriously top draw gear.
well it looks cool.
I think the si is more versatile and being as the roll off is good on both that would be the one.
got better in clean sound
Super & impressiv Demo, super Playing awesome Tones! Can you tell me which Amp/ Speaker/ Mic you have used for this Demo?
Hi Jesse, really enjoyed that~Great playing and sounds! Do you utilize carbon comp resistors? Or perhaps you've made it work with later components. Subscribed!
Jesse, I just got my Ge Fuzz and I absolutely love it (especially when coupled with the Duellist). Would you know how the internal swtiches were set when you recorded this demo? Presuming both as default (FullRange / Boost)... Thanks and keep up the great work!
JESSETWOHANDS, how does the bias LIGHT know what the correct bias voltage should be if the germanium transistors have drifting in temperature? even if you have a reference voltage to compare against if the germanium transistors drift in temperature that reference bias voltage is not a good reference voltage any more, so it doesn't make sense to me.
Would more useful to have large control knob the fuzz; volume & bias are set & forget it. Thanks
Just ordered the pedal two minutes ago.
First time I hear -what seemingly is- yur voice. Sov
Is this your voice? You? From instagram? The badass long hair renegade dissident biker metal coolest dude looking Jesse? I am having a cognitive dissonant shock now.
Is king tone more geared towards single coils...i love the sound but a lot of ppl say the builder is a strat enthusist true? or no?
Hello jess i have a duellist a germanium mini fuzz and the octaland can you tell me if there is an order wich is the Best for the moment i'm running the fuzz into the octaland witch is in the duellist
Etc... Cheers
Yeah the way you have it works great, you could also try Octaland into Fuzz into Duellist. Slightly different tone when using both the miniFuzz and Octaland.
Just try the octaland before the fuzz i really like this way thank you for the advice 😉
I'm a big blues player. I'm in a 3 way shootout between this pedal, analogman sunface, or fulltone 69 mkII. Anyone have experience with all three of these or how they compare to one another?
I own a Vintage Fuzz from Tone King, is it worth an upgrade in terms of tone or are the two pedals very similar?
I got this used and its the best fuzz ive owned..and ive owned loads.
1 question though.. anyone know the correct barrell size for the center positive cable 2.1mm or 2.5mm?
So what germanium transistors are in this actual pedal? Sound real good.
Hey, in this pedal they are the NKT275.
Are these the skinny-er recent 275's from the 90's on or the original fat boy 275's from the 60's?
@@ttswan yes these are the more recent version. We also used 2SB175 in more resent fuzzes which give the same tone but with better temperature tolerance.
Will this pedal sound good into a squeaky clean amp? (carr rambler)
I bought this pedal. It works nicely on a 9v battery but I’m having a hard time with it powered to my MXR iso brick. (Feeding it 9v 250mah). All other pedals work normal but the mini fuzz is not. (Poor sound and the bias led is not lighting up). Any suggestion is very welcome . Thank you.
As with most germanium fuzzes you need to use a reverse DC cable. Also there is an internal switch to select between DC in (battery simulator) and external battery Box, try both settings. If the bias light is going off when you use the DC brick, it means the voltage coming out of your power supply is incorrect , you might need to double check it with a meter. Please contact support for more info. Thank you!
Hello Jesse. I’m using the reversed cable. I’ll try the metercheck. Thank you.
I have the same problem, led never works
Hi Fuzzfans, I must order one of these, I just have to...! I mainly play a Les Paul with PAFs so which one should I buy?Silicon or Germanium? Thanks for your help.
What guitar pickups and did you use any other pedals in this demo? It’s the tone I always chase
Love this demo thanks so much man. Just curious Does this have nkt275’s??
I read that yes, it has. The new version mini fuzz 2 that has Ge and Si in the same pedal has other type of Ge. Thats why I bought this Ge used (it is discontinued) by almost the same price as the new one that has both other type of Ge and Si in one.
Looks like I found the Fuzz for me.
I need one. Wish you had payment plans. So I could afford one. But I will save
Jesse, I seriously need help on my clean tone man. Running an American strat with bluebirds through a ‘67 super reverb. Yes I do crank the amp up, often to 10. You, Phillip, and Nik all get this fuzz to your base tone that I just can’t seem to get. My amps break up in a different way that sounds more like traditional overdrive and not fizzy like y’all’s. Any good tips?
Hey!! Try these settings. Treble 9, middle 8, bass 3.5. Turn the amp volume up so it starts to break up. Turn the volume on the fuzz up enough so the amp clips slightly, too much and it’ll all sound mushy, too little and it’ll sound too high bright and fizzy. Let me know how you get on.
Nice pedal-appropirate playing.
What is the better temperature for use germanium transistor ?
🤔
Is there any cheaper pedal that sounds a bit like this fuzz? Would appreciate it much if you recommend me
Hey! This pedal has its roots in the FuzzFace style circuit. If you can find a germanium based fuzzface clone that is cheaper, that will get you close to this style of tone, but be careful as they don’t all sound good. Make sure it has a bias control, this is vital as Ge fuzzes need to be adjusted depending on temperature.
Where can we buy these pedals ? Sounds fantastic man.
Is this the silicon or germanium version
Hey! It’s the Germanium.
Battery only?
Would have loved to know how it handles buffers, assuming it wants to be very close to front of chain.
No rules for placement but like other fuzz pedals, it'll be warmer sounding if placed before any buffered pedals.
@@jessetwohands finally got one of these and it’s exceeded all expectations! Such a flexible and great sounding fuzz/ overdrive/ clean sparkle thing!
Does this pedal need to go first in the signal chain or is there a pickup simulator in the circuit so it can be put everywhere?
Yeah 1st in the chain is ideal. Some people like the brighter tone of using it later in the chain.
Can you tell us what amp you were using here? Sounds like a vintage bassman
