Why I Hate The New Rolex Pepsi Oyster! - Rolex GMT Master II Review (126710)

  • Why on earth would Rolex come out with yet another variation of the same watch! It seems to me that they are getting more and more predictable. It's not that I hate the way it looks don't get me wrong I love it. It's just that I do not understand the need for it. It totally killed the market of the white gold version. Most important is what happened to the Black bezel version. So now we are just not going to have a regular black version?? I really wish that They would have come out with a new Coke red and black bezel and not the new Batman and Pepsi. Just seems a bit predictable and boring.

All black GMT is way too similar to a Sub, from 5 feet you can't even tell the difference. Rolex is trying to draw a line in the sand between Subs and GMTs in looks and another reason the Sub case and bracelet got slightly bigger.

Although 100% Rolex should have brought back the LN GMT, best looking one to date alongside the coke

I think Rolex made a great move by turning out the Pepsi on the oyster bracelet. I love mine as it was purchased from the AD. Furthermore, this can be a daily driver if one chooses. Jumping into the all gold might not be affordable and the gold isn't as tolerant to dings and scratches as the stainless steel. Therefore, Rolex made a good decision whereas its attainable at the AD level vs jumping up to the precious metal. Eric keep up the good work we love the edge you take on your channel it's the reason why I choose to subscribe.

Then when oyster came out again, I feel disappointed. Too many options is style less

Actually Eric I think the older white gold Pepsi black dial will be rly collectible in the future since it’s kinda rare compare to the steel. As a owner of the white gold Pepsi black dial, I was upset at first even when the steel jubilee Pepsi came out. But now that had time to think and digest, I rly like that mine is white gold and not many will know. In fact the white gold bezel has a slightly a different shade of red and blue. I’m not gonna change it to the blue dial either. I agree that it would be rly rly cool to have the new coke in steel and I’m hoping to see it release soon. The coke has always been my favourite variant of the gmt

It's not about the "70 hour power reserve". It's an updated movement, so it gets a new model number.
Also, in theory, putting the Pepsi on a stainless steel watch makes it more attainable for people (if there were stock).
Also, the 41mm Sub is less than half a mm bigger than the 40mm Sub, but they ditched the maxi case, so it looks better.
My fav is still the SD4K though. God I love that watch.

I usually agree with you Eric, but I think it’s a great idea for this model, I love mine. I usually never buy tool watches in previous metals and they are out of the reach for most. I like the oyster much more for a tool watch and having a lil more power reserve no big deal for me but a better value if you got it at retail. The watch just pops better the jubilee Pepsi and def looks more tool and attractive then Batman-girl. I can see this piece hitting 27-28k for Christmas 🎄. The meteorite Pepsi is a mint watch and that is the only tool watch in precious metal I would go for but now pretty much unattainable. Great video,Jeff.

For this watch to be selling over double the retail price and asking if Rolex has messed up, the market is telling us the watch is a huge success. However, I agree it's laziness and has annoyed the white gold pepsi owners but to be honest, the white gold pepsi with the meteorite dial destroyed the other white gold GMT pieces anyway in my opinion.

Sure, the SS oyster bracelet Pepsi is more attainable, but what about the collector who purchased the white gold version, what would they think? This release on some level takes away the prestigiousness and uniqueness of the white gold version while leaving a sour taste to the white gold owner.

Eric, now that i got my hands on a new 41mm Submariner I'm REALLY enjoying the extra real estate on the dial. My Batman now sits in the safe. It's not much but it does make a difference. The lugs are proper in proportion to the watch and "bracelet to watch proportion" is also proper. The 40mm Sub AND GMT are AND were a BIG MISTAKE IMHO. Rolex fukkin with the "appearance" of a larger watch was a HUGE mistake. The Submariner is fixed. Let's hope the GMT gets fixed too.

Eric, that is your opinion. In my opinion, someone who has an older reference number - when the new one comes to the market - will argue why his older reference is „better“ or „the same as the new“. Someone who has not jet bought a rolex will almost always choose the newest. yes, there is vintage market, but the prices on the grey market for older or newer reference numbers prove my point.

If the black and blue watch is called the Batman or Batgirl. Why isn’t the red and blue one called, the Superman or Supergirl.
    Seems like a missed opportunity.

I agree with you Eric that was a bit much by Rolex and the price tag too.

I would love to have your POV on palm motif dials. No one is talking about them. We never see them. Unpopularity = future grail pieces?
Thank you for your great work here.

At 14 seconds: "I hate it" and 9 seconds later in this same video..."Well I don't actually hate it". Sigh. 10 wasted minutes.

Got the blue dial white gold gmt and it’s a bad ass watch. I wonder if they will discontinue the white gold blue dial version. What’s your take Erik?

30k more (retail) is a reasonable amount to illicit hate, considering what it is and means for gray marketeers.
