@Rapportus I know. I always thought I was pretty good at FPS until I started trying to play my younger brother-in-law on consoles using a controller.
I could run circles around him on pc with a mouse & keyboard. I finally got better, but it seems incredibly non-intuitive when you've used kb/mouse since Wolfenstein 3D & Doom.

I know people will think I'm nuts, but since Wolfenstein 3D, I've always used the arrow keys instead of WASD, though I modified their binds after Wolf3D.
I think everyone migrated to WASD when Quake Champ Thresh popularized it. It's admittedly easier if you have minimal desk space. I generally slide my keyboard to the left a little to reach the arrows with more ease.
Even if you play 20 different games in a day, there are "game basics" that are pretty much universal to gaming. If you see a boss, and have a gun, you shoot the boss until it ded.

The problem with a lot of game journalists is. They aren’t gamers. They are journalists.
How could you expect them to review a game when they can’t even play it.
It’s like asking someone to review a car but they can’t drive or review some chefs equipment but they can’t cook.
Imagine paying for YT Red and having every creator put an ad in the video you physically have to skip as well.

Premium is ad free, but ad revenue alone isn't enough to pay for some of these channels. So getting sponsorships/plugging Patreon is the best way to make sure you and your staff get paid. I'd rather watch a sponsored segment where I know the creator has a working relationship with the sponsor and is getting all the revenue from said sponsorship rather than an ad from whatever ad agency is paying youtube the most this week that the creator may not agree with.
And that's why they do baked in ads

This reminds me of The Verge when they did the “How to build a PC,” video disaster. If this is how the people at IGN play games, that explains a lot.
The last game that had this problem for me was Wild Hearts, where the official gameplay and gameplay trailers looked very lackluster but the content put out by content creators who focused on Monster Hunter was infinitely better.
Still didn't buy it though, performance is not fixed to this day after all.

i refunded it and waited for the performance fixes and bought it again and it still had shit performance so refunded again. never coming back to that game
as a monhun fan since the original i will say that i never really watched anything about wildhearts just knew that it was monhun like/adjacent still kinda curious about it but not willing to buy it considering i know nothing about nor do i really want to

Prey was sooooo good! Idk why it got bad reviews and sold so poorly. With how much they earned from Prey, I doubt there will ever be a sequel. Real sad

And it turns out the IGN preview is apparently a fair preview of the game. Heck, looking at Skill Up's review, it seems more generous, actually. Man, I'm so glad I'm getting into Honkers Impact now, I'd rather play mobile game now, because at least the games *works* .

Imagine the problem isn't that they're playing 10 games a day. That kind of experience would make even an idiot somewhat competent.
It's that they're playing one game for a few minutes every ten days. They've clearly become unfamiliar with using a control pad through lack of use.
I really don't get why these companies can't just get somebody who's alright at gaming to make these gameplay videos. Take for instance the CZcams creator StealthGamerBR. That guy makes the coolest videos with Hitman, Dishonored, Splinter Cell, and other stealth-oriented games. Why not get somebody like that to make a video for a new game to show people how cool it can be...?
Because company executives are Out of touch and because it costs more Money to hire people that actually know what they're doing

Bunch of brown nosing wannabe journalist circles that pad their buddies resumes with “wrote pieces and reviews for major brand networks” etc. so they can get the job they really want. Sad thing is, many talented/enthusiastic gamers that work in journalism or in college for journalism that would love to have these careers but can’t get them because they don’t know someone from school whose dad is an investor for IGN.

IGN first is supposed to be a marketing tool to get the game in front of a large audience. If they keep having instances like these developers will have to start questioning if it's even worth it. At least pertaining to new IP.
The 10 game’s argument doesn’t make any sense. If those game’s journalists actually played 10 games a day, they wouldn’t be that bad at all games.
This is especially apparent when a feature is intuitive to someone that plays games in that genre, but then goes over the head of a game’s journalist. The Cuphead video is a great example of that.
Yong says he wants a genuine gameplay loop by a random person to see how the game plays as giving overly scripted gameplay isn't genuine. The guy playing isn't very good but that what an average person will look like. It's a new game so nobody is good at yet. You can't have your cake and eat it. They gave exactly what Yong asked for but then moans that he wants a better showing. Make your mind up.

Ngl i bought the raycon sports ear buds like 2 years ago and they are fucking amazing. The awareness mode is great for thw streets woth cars n stuff and they r water proof which is great for running and travelling

I am kinda excited for this game but also worried about certain aspects.
I like playing solo and I usually tend to cheat/mod the game at some point to make it more enjoyable like speeding up boring processes or giving myself money to buy whatever ai want in the game. Like for WILD HEARTS I would have quit it way sooner if I couldn’t speed up hunting the few monsters over and over again.
Now on gameplay, no one should get exclusive early gameplay rights. Especially with the track record of these people not touching a video game since they first played Pong. People play video games differently and it’s good to see how different people play and not just seeing one person fail to function.

This is why I have no respect for game journalists or reviewers from large sites. All talent-less biased hacks. They can't play games with basic keyboard and mouse or controller movement, hate on games (like Hogwarts Legacy) for illogical reasons that has nothing to do with the game's review, or review a game genre they hate and downrate because of it.

Just for all the comments about Deathloop, Redfall is made by a different studio (Arkane Austin, not Lyon) and the creative director is the guy who directed the Dishonored series (Harvey Smith). I thought this game looked pretty meh, but with him behind the wheel I am actually looking forward to playing this.
Death loop was great anyway? Why does it matter which studio made it? Everything's arkane puts out slaps.
Arkane's lack of experience in making multiplayer games is apparent here as the backend infrastructure for an fps multiplayer game requires significant work to ensure a seamless experience, which is why this game is gonna embarrassingly run at 30 fps on the Series X and PC port will likely suffer technical issues. I predict this game to turn out to be like Babylon's Fall where execs pushed a studio famous for making single-player games into making a live-service game.

They do in house testing, with all the bugs im curious to learn more about this way of testing a game prior to release.
The whole it's to fight against piracy excuse is nonsense, online only games do get pirated often it's just not going to connect to the server, pirates essentially get offline mode whereas paid players don't, so really the pirates get the better product.

If I was any management positions on gaming companies I would actually make sure the reviewer can properly demonstrate my game.
