A walk around the small cottage garden in Summer bloom

- In the cottage garden this week, I planted three new perennials and I give you a walk around the borders to see what is growing this time of year. I planted a shasta daisy, some verbena and an astrantia. Also, my giant sunflowers are still growing! I also tidied up some of the cut flower beds too, and I got my first potato.

I love the idea of everyone sharing their gardens! I would love to see gardens around the world!! 😍😍😍
steep garlic in hot water. Flick the stems that have heavy infestations and most will fall off. Then, Spray the aphids with it after it cools. Also, just a tiny bit of biodegradable dish soap added to the garlic water can assist with pests.
You can blast those aphids off with a strong shot of water from your hose. They will still feed the birds and will not climb back up on your blooms.
A great idea. I live in the tropics so mine would be a little different! I appreciate very much the way you always seem so content with your house and garden and the love shines through in both.
So nice of you Anne, thank you x
I agree contentment and appreciation of all the stages of growth is so good!🥰
Borage is fuzzy. I like to freeze their star shaped flowers in ice cubes to add to summer drinks. It can reseed itself for you.
I'm originally from South Africa, I live in Co Donegal now, and let me tell you... An Irish 23°C feels equally as hot as a SA 36°C, no jokes! I used to be one of those people who would think that 23° isn't hot, I know better now, from experience! 🥵😄
It totally is isn’t it 😂 it’s a different climate here!! Hope you’re loving Donegal 💗
Yes!!! I would absolutely love to see gardens around the world🌸🌿🌺🌻🍁🍂
Thank you, you help me through my hardest times. Thank you a million times over. 🇨🇦❤️ 🇮🇪
Oh I’m delighted to hear that ❤️
Mama used to say, when we got a green potato- Ah, it’s just a little sunburn, pare it off, it’s fine!!😂❤
ha ha, love it!
That plant in your tire is borage. Give it a few more weeks. You will love it 😊
You can spray your aphids with white oil, if they get too much for the plant. It’s good for all insects. You can make your own. In a blender or jar, mix 1 cup vegetable oil with 1/4 cup concentrate dish washing liquid. This is your concentrate and will keep up to 3 months. From this you mix in a spray bottle, 15 mls of your white oil concentrate with 1 litre water. Shake and spray aphids. Hope this is helpful. 👍🇦🇺💕
I’d love to see everyones garden and would be super proud to show my “Around the World” garden I started in 2020. Its coming together beautifully. And, not to be THAT person, but…yeah, it’s definitely a heat wave here in Alabama. Its the time of year where I garden in 40-45 (Celsius) heat EVERY! DANG! DAY! One of the many reason I love Europe! Haha! Love your videos and sense of humor! 💚💚💚
🪴ooh yes! Let’s share our gardens!!
I received my book in the mail today! Lovely!❤️
Nepeta is a great plant. Blondie will love it. It grows quickly and needs cutting back fairly often x
In a spray bottle put water and a few drops of dish soap try that on the aphids
I think it's a great idea for everyone to share their garden videos!🪴🌿🌵🌳
Oh it’s looking so romantic and pretty in the front and those sunflowers are so much fun, what a riot of colour everywhere ♥️
Our winter has been relatively mild so far here in South Australia. It’s 11c today, and my strawberries are still pushing out fruit - not fully colouring up but surprisingly yummy. Weird little guys 🍓
I think the sharing the garden idea is a Fantastic idea! So many gardeners are obsessed but are surrounded by people whose eyes glaze over when they start rapturising about their dahlias or zucchini - to be able to show what they’ve made to people who get it would be so satisfying 🌱
Your strawberries sound great Claudia!!
Yes,it's borage, and not only do the bees love it ,it's really good for them.
My garden has just been demolished so living vicariously through everyone else would be great!
It looks like Borage to me, I grow it every year because the bees love it and I use the blue flowers in ice cubes. ❤🇬🇧
I forgot to leave a comment and tell you I love the new plants you picked out to add. It's hard to find summer plants here now. It's sad, but you either get them all in the spring or you risk not finding any later on. I find as long as you water well, perennials winter over well when planned later in summer.
You have the tallest sunflowers!!!
every time i watch your videos i get all motivated 😆😭😂, i spring into action and start cleaning and doing my garden 🙏 Thank you 💜
I love the idea of sharing our gardens and having a gardening community…….advice and inspiration👍
All your hard work has paid off with a little Sanctuary all your own!
Oh I would give anything for 27 C = 80 degrees F here in Texas. Today was 103 F and it was like a blast furnace.
Your Garden is just magical. Love your Allium seed heads. Hang one in green house to dry. So beautiful. If your onions are bitter slice and soak them in ice water with a squirt of lemon or lime juice for about 10 minutes Aphids add a few drops of dish soap to a spray bottle 2 cups water and give them a good squirt. Or blast Aphids off with garden hose.
I love your Summer Motto: Water - Deadhead - Cut the grass. Repeat. Enjoyed your video. Thanks you.
You got POTATOES! I feel your excitement. Lol. In Canada we were 29C yesterday. Typical around now. Rain and humidity for the rest of the week. Plants and grass need it. My hair...not so much. Lol
The plants definitely needed but not the hair that’s right Diana 😂
Blondie has such a cute personality! She's a sweet girl. Your garden has really transformed this year, your had work is paying off. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much, I was looking back on old pictures and love seeing the transformation x
👍 It would be great to see other gardens from around the world. Super idea Catherine!
yay, happy to hear that x
🥰… Received my book 18 hours ago I am on page 131 with the pleasant surprise of finding the 💖✨pink ribbon to use as a bookmark that was attached to the book, what a beautiful surprise!
Aw yay, glad you like it x
Hello from Seattle, Washington USA. Your garden is charming. You made me smile almost all the way through your garden tour. I’m retired now after teaching children for what seemed like a 100 years, and now have time to garden. I’m especially enjoying my lovely hydrangeas. They’re blue and purple and pink and deep burgundy. I must have a variety of minerals in the soil to create such beauty. Keep enjoying your garden and home… 27 C is somewhere around 80 F here. Yes, a bit too warm for me too, but the flowers love it. Thank you for sharing your videos.
You are absolutely adorable. I can’t believe you’re even breaking a sweat at 27• !!!! That’s so mild. We call that February here. Honestly- it’s hotter than that before the sun comes up here most days in July ! Enjoy it ! Pretty garden. Pretty young lady !
🪴 I looooooove the idea of you showing peoples gardens- One of may favourite parts of GW!
I would totally share my garden all the way from Canada and it would be awesome to see others. Thanks for all the videos. Blondie is a cutie patootie.
Can’t wait to see them all!
On your next book cover you need to mimic Monty and his dog and have Blondie laying beside you!!
Borage has a delicate blue flowers and the leaves smell and taste like cucumber...yes you can eat it 🤠
Its really odd here in Australia hear 27 degrees as hot! As you can imagine its much hotter here during summer.. Overnight lows of 30's ect and days of 45.5 sometimes. It breaks the heart watching the gardens be incinerated! Your garden is looking lovely, so welcoming and abundant. I think a 'BIG" yes to adding videos! 🌹
Oh wow that is hot, I can already see some plants getting stressed and its only pushing 30, which is odd for us. I think I would fry in Australia, 20 degrees is warm for my Irish blood LOL
You can mix a couple of drops of dish soap and water to spray the aphids. You can wash them off with a good spray of get a box of Lady bugs to feast on them. Your garden is beautiful. I live in Sunny very dry Las Vegas, NV USA…25 Celsius would be amazing. We are just getting over 111 Fahrenheit. My roses have burned up but will come back in the fall, my butterfly bushes are toast but will come back in the spring. Thank you for sharing your adventures and your garden with us. Getting ready to order you book now that it is in the US. You’re adorable.
Congratulations on your abundance! Flowers, strawberries and now...POTATOES! Good job! Enjoy!
Hello from Brazil! It is winter here and it is a chilly 20C this evening LOL Your garden looks fabulous! Keep that sunscreen on and drink lots of water. Personally, I can do without the high temps...anything over 27C is completely unnecessary!! ☺☺☺
Doing my skincare while watching Dainty. Perfect chill time.
Oh my, just noticed those big alium flower tops ,they will dry perfectly, just like that ,hang them inside in cool dry place , use for a dried flower arrangement, xo
I RECEIVED MY BOOK TODAY-AND IT WAS SIGNED!!❤️🧡💛💜💙💚
Yay! So happy to hear that x
We’ve been driving from Dublin counter-clockwise around Ireland. It’s been an amazing two weeks. We love Ireland and will come back soon! It’s getting warm but not as warm as Florida!
Aw yay, I am so happy you are enjoying Ireland!
Hey Cathrine, your garden is looking so lovely, this is a cottage garden in the making, you will be giving Monty a run soon. Seeing you removing the spent flowers on your roses, brings to mind the video Garden answers put out recently about cutting back to five leave brackets instead of three, I am sure you might have seen it, excellent tips. This heatwave is hitting middle of England badly, with 40 /41 degrees C on Monday and Tuesday ! I’m getting up at 4am to water my garden and walk my little dog before it gets hot. Thank you for sharing, sending you love and blessings. ❤️🙏🏻🇬🇧
Oh, thank you for sharing that, I missed that video, I will check it out. Stay cool x
I had loads of aphids on my Roses. Made a week solution of water and dish soap. Used a spray bottle and they all gone x
Thanks for that Gill!
I think maybe the flower your friend gave you is a pincushion flower. Gorgeous garden!
That big hairy leaved plant in tyres definitely is Borage 👍🏼. Put the blue flowers in ice cubes.
Would love to join others in our gardens. It would be so nice to see & share with others within this community. We all love gardens, tea and a good natter 🤣❤️. So where else to meet up but in each other’s gardens 🥰
That’s exactly it!! Let’s all get a cuppa and share our summer gardens 😍
Wow we are expecting 39 tomorrow and I think your 30 , it’s crazy warm 🤪,.
Remember when you did the border in the back garden and your pond that was perfect instead of waiting till better weather or spring , it looks so nice , you do have an eye for how to arrange your plants.
Hopefully if I can get my health better I would love to take over my Mother In Law’s garden it’s to much for her and she pays an arm and a leg for someone to just keep it tidy , it could look so nice with more care. Fingers crossed .
Would also love to see your followers gardens 👍🪴
Take care stay safe xx
I love the idea of sharing our garden videos! fun :)
You should be very proud of your Beautiful Cottage Garden!! I so enjoy watching your videos and the thought you put into your lovely garden. I have went out looking for special plants when I see them in your garden. 🙂
Sharing of yards would be great. You can spray your water hose on the affies, that will keep them under control.
You should look into getting a cement fountian, the water trickel will add to the garden and the birds love it. Also a cement bird bath, add height and depth to your cottage garden. Love that you have created your own piece of heaven!!
Thanks Stephany ♥️ oh a fountain sounds fab too!
Thumbs up to sharing a video of my garden 🪴!
I love the idea, each garden is always different to the next. Could be brilliant viewing.
Your garden is beautiful Catherine. I love 💕 your idea too how kind of you to share the love to your community 🙏💕💐🌹🌺🌷
I would VERY much love to figure out a way to share a video of the community garden here in Brooklyn - since that way you'll see how I "took one of your ideas and made it my own" when we were painting a little cabinet for books. 🙂
That’s definitely borage in the tire planter. Bees love it and it often reseeds the next year 🐝
Live for the sunday garden videos 🙌🙌
The flowers you didn't know the name of is called Candy Tuft here in the states
Yes I would love to see other people's gardens 🌼🌼🌼🌼
💖✨…Thank you! …I just received your “beautiful” Book…it’s everything I expected💖✨💖
Awww I am so happy x
Yes, I would love to see other people's gardens. I'm from the US, Denver Colorado.
Shading gardens is a fantastic idea
Sharing*
Both astrantia and shasta daisy will self seed really well - they can grow into quite big plants and are easily divided when you need to. The garden is really starting to come together and looks so pretty.
I love the idea of everyone sharing a video of their gardens. I would love to do that myself, if I can figure out how to do it. 👵🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Yes that would be great! Your garden is beautiful. Love Blondie as well, she is so sweet!
I feel yea on the crazy heat!!! We’ve been at 28 to 31 this past week, and our Calgary Stampede has been going on as well, and down at the grounds it’s like 10 degrees hotter with all the motors and people it’s always so much hotter. We got a reprieve today with a high of 23, but we’re going back up come Tuesday🥵 Garden looks fantastic!!!🌻🌼
Love the idea of sharing garden videos…it will truly be a “gardeners world” tour with your followers/subscribers from countries far and wide submitting videos. Hey, I might even film my Georgia, USA garden too.
Watching you from Texas where it’s 40 degrees today and will be 43 degrees for the rest of the week!
I miss the uk family friends and much cooler temperatures.
Love watching your channel pottering in the garden and diys 😃
Mini videos from all around the world......great idea!!!!!
👍🏻🌻🌹🌺🌷 Great Idea about sharing other peoples gardens too, I think you may get quite a few interesting gardens from all over the globe 🌍 Aussie land here
I’m dreaming of your weather. Right now I’m trying to keep everything alive at 102 f(38c). Mix that with no rain for weeks and it makes for a challenge. I need to come to Ireland🥰
Wash the aphids off with soap and water , they will eat up your plant. Everything looks lovely!
I am in Saskatchewan, Canada and its 34 today and no breeze. I love your video's and of course Blondie. Your yard is lovely. xxoo
What a charming person you are, with a charming garden! I Planted Astrantia roots this year for the first time; I like their nickname which is "Hetties Pincushions".
Foxglove and Canterbury Bells would be marvelous at the back of your white wall.. ( maybe you already have them)🍓Thumbs up on the "gardens around the world" idea.
Sharing garden videos is an exciting idea!🥔🍓🍄⚘🍀🍁🐈
Hi Catherine you can eat green potatoes as long as they are cooked properly. Your garden is looking so pretty and cottagey.
Omg, you’re such a joy to watch! Think I smiled the whole way through 😘
It's all looking great, the sunflowers are amazing. Maybe wear a sun hat on hot days or you'll get a headache. I've only just found my sunhat, so I'll follow my own advice 😊🌿
I just love your garden. It changes every video. The bonus of growing veggies or fruit is getting to eat the harvest...YUMMY!
There’s always something to be done ☀️♥️
@@DaintyDiaries You inspire me to plant more flowers. I just have to keep the little plastic pieces with the names on them because I can't remember them all. I am so impressed with the way you just know all of yours. By the way, you have such a calming effect on my life when I get to watch your vlog. Thank you so much!!!
Yes I love the idea of your viewers sharing their greens! Your garden is beautiful . 😍
Meanwhile 28 degrees is the low where I’m at 😫 enjoy it while you can girl!
Great idea. Yes .
My back garden is small and no grass so I have pots and wooden boxes. I'd love to c other gardens to get ideas. I find it much easier looking at every day people learning as they go.
Girl, my book just arrived, and I am soooooooo excited!💕💕💕💕💕💕
Yay! Soooo happy it arrived x
Pretty sure you can knock the aphids off with a blast from your hose. Garden looks great! I’d love to share mine but can’t wait too long to film it because the heat may ruin the flowers.
Hi dear Catherine and big helper Blondie. 👋😊WONDERFUL!!! flowers 🌼🌸💮🏵️and harvest🥔. Beautiful garden💓💮☘️🌸🌼🐞🦋🐝 I also like Monty Don😉👌. I watch his videos a lot on you tube🤗 THANK YOU very much for another beautiful video and I wish you all the best.☘️🌼🐞 With love Maťa from Slovakia 🇸🇰. Bye
Oh Catherine your garden is wonderful. In the depth of winter here but I planted gladiolus and dahlias today so fingers crossed for a summer showing. And congratulations to your rugby team, a well deserved win over the All Blacks.
PS, it is 90 F inn Colorado today, I would love it to be 80 f. Enjoy the warm weather while you have it. That's what I keep telling myself as well. Cheeky thumbs up.
Thanks Kristina 💗
Yes to sharing everyone's gardens 💐 but I wouldn't know how and I'm going to be moving soon so I will be removing a lot of my plants now.
Great idea about sharing the gardens, 31 degrees in East Yorkshire as I write this and at only 11am we haven’t peeked yet! I grew dahlias from seed this year and they have finally started flowering. Every night I water I just clear down the stems with my hand and the hosepipe. On a couple they haven’t bothered coming back after a couple of goes, but one plant seems to have some mafiose bugs and it’ll take more effort 😂 enjoy the weather and your wonderful garden x
Oh the heat in England is even stronger that’s crazy!! Stay safe in the head Andrea!
I love the idea of sharing my garden 🌸
I'm so glad I found your channel. I have M.E and when I have no energy for my garden I love watching yours. Thank you so much. I love the sharing idea. I'd send one!👍🌷
Oh so glad you found it Verity ♥️ and hope you’re doing okay! Have a lovely week xx
It would be lovely to see gardens from around the world 💕🌍
I would get excited also if I saw a little potato in my garden bed too! Nice video, strawberries look yummy.
Happy Sunday ☀️it’s 107 hair in the central valley of California☀️ went outside for about 15 minutes to do some watering in the backyard. Had to come inside🥵 my hydrangeas got a little crispy! The plants that seem to be thriving for me are geraniums and Black-eyed Susans. How exciting to see your potatoes grow! Yay! Have a blessed week Catherine🌸💕☀️
Hydangeas are my most thirsty plants! they love to drink lol x
Love watching all your content, just listening to you is a delight, I left Ireland as a 9 year old in the 70s.
My garden is a courtyard under renovation along with the rest of my studio/ granny flat, would love the ideas and inspiration
Sharing garden photos would be cool!
I am so excited, I RECEIVED YOUR BOOK TODAY, and it is signed. Thank You! Just what I needed, to be inside and read, in this 104 degrees weather(for days), in Broken Bow, OK, we are in the extreme SE corner. I enjoy watching you on CZcams, so much.
Yay! Hope you enjoy it! so happy you got a signed copy too x
I would love to share my garden with everyone ♥
Your garden looks so beautiful. I love your pink greenhouse, your flowers, your wooden planters, soft green grass, your darling cat, and just the way you chat to the birds. Makes my heart happy. 💕🐦
I never seen the red hydrangea before they are beautiful🥰
