About The Game:
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is an action-adventure video game developed by Big Red Button and published by Sega for the Wii U console. Along with Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal for the Nintendo 3DS, the game is a spin-off of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series and is a part of the Sonic Boom franchise, which also consists of an animated television series (whose games serve as prequel), a comic series by Archie Comics, and a toyline by Tomy.

I think the game grumps have the mental capacity of figuring that out. But really does the game deserve that much attention? I think the grumps spent more effort improving. its snowing on mt. fuji.
It's fine if you missed the triple jump and never knew about it until needed, but Arin had already used the triple jump plenty of times before the part where he completely forgot about it.

Look, the reason the game sucks is because Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric was supposed to be a 1080p game for the Xbox One. But then Sega was like “hey button, put this game exclusively on the WiiU” and they were like “sure bro.” But then they realized the game they had could not work on WiiU because it’s hardware is to weak to play the game. So they had to COMPLETELY redo the game. Cool combos were scrapped. ENTIRE LEVELS WERE DELETED!! And big red button didn’t even know there was a show, so they had to change a bit of story to connect with the show. And they were on so much of a time limit, they couldn’t fix the bugs. They worked so hard on a game that could’ve been a great game, but it all got thrown away.
Oh... now I feel bad for them...

Note: This game is running on the CryEngine. That engine is not meant for the Wii U. Also the development process is absolute horrendous.

Yeah, aside from Hotel Mario, none of the games has been called as one of the worst video games of all time. Kind of sad Sonic is suffering hard while Mario(aside from a few titles)hasn't haved that.

Yeah. I know the CZcams Algorithm favors channels that have videos which people watch the majority of. It's about retention time. I'm sad it's gone too, but a lot of people probably skipped that section and it meant loss in potential subscribers due to a lack of promotion because of that. So that's probably why the section was removed.

No no, 06 so bad it make me want to smash it, even Sonic denied that game exited (canon) rice of lyric on the other hand, I buy it 2 months ago and it’s actually enjoyable, sure it had some nonsense scene but there’s surprisingly smooth and definitely not as bad as people tell me, though I was pretty disappoint about the music :(

There needs to be another change then. Quite frank, I believe he was being too kind by saying 06 was just as bad as Boom when really Boom is the worst. In 06, there were a few instances that shows effort was put into the game, then it actually has some damn good tracks. To make it worse, Rise of Lyric is 8 years newer and here it is being compared to an older terrible game, even by visuals.

I actually feel bad for everyone who was involved in the development of Rise of Lyric. Even though the game is terrible, the animation of it was really well made and I was actually impressed. At least the TV show is good.

It's actually CryEngine 4 for Sonic Boom, not CryEngine 3.
The Wii U can handle CryEngine 3, PS3 & 360 had quite some games using CryEngine 3.
Yeah, I heard that the development team had a terrible time with Sonic Boom since Sega didn't mention that they were changing game engines in middle of development and on top of that, they put a time limit at the end of the year so they had to rush development so that the game was complete which resulted in this disaster.
Stefannofornari ™ They we're actually screwed by the marketing team framerates and things would have been fixed if the game was on the Xbox1 and PS4 like it was supposed to Sega just forgot about the deal they had with Nintendo for 3 exclusive titles and the game was ported to Wii U very late in development which destroyed the game itself. The get still would have been forgettable at best but it wouldn't have been awful. Much like it's predecessor Sonic 06 it had the potential to be at least okay but was screwed over by poor marketing decisions
I find it very hard to find a videogame that is easy enough and interesting for the 5-9 year old age group. After playing some of this I actually think it may be a pretty good kids game.

It's a shame that one bad game can make people who aren't fans of Sonic think an entire sub franchise is bad, without even giving the cartoon or Sonic Boom Fire & Ice a chance.
Sonic Boom Rise of Lyric had potential to be a good looking game, better yet a decent one. If BigRedButton hadn't received a strict release schedule, and having this game be announced as a Wii U exclusive then this game would have been alright. They honestly should have waited until Season 2 to air (airing on 29th October), then release the game for anything but Wii U.

Well one of the main problems is that this game was supposed to be multiplatform. So it was designed with the Xbox One development Kits. However due to the Sega/Nintendo deal they needed a third exclusive for the Wii U. Thanks to the tight release schedule (seriously you'd think companies would learn that shoving a game out is an awful idea) they had to basically jury rig a way to make an Xbox One developed game run only on the Wii U. It was a mess. I feel bad for Big Red Button, they got royally screwed by their higher ups.

I liked knowing the end of a game I couldn't be bothered with finishing. But I get why it's gone, it kind of broke the flow of the rest of the content, being the only section that is exclusively about story, while the rest focused on gameplay.
+Fox Mc Loud ... to see whether or not the person recommends it or not? You don't look up a review to see the ending, if you played it before, you look it up for the person's input. If you have not played it before, you're looking if you want to play the game or not. Not to un-play it because of a spoiler. Yes, Jirard puts spoilers in his reviews before, but they are warned ahead of time and given a time stamp so that the viewer who has not played the game can actually play the game.

Sadly, my uncle is a video game designer and he actually helped make this game. When he told me about it before it was even announced when I was 12, I thought it was super awesome he was working on a Sonic game, but that was before I found out how modern-day Sonic games are practically shit so I felt kind of bad for him when I saw the rating the game got.

Sonic and Tails are fine i guess but i really hate the new designs of Knuckles and Amy.
I actually love the new character designs... also, while most of the writing was terrible, three lines made me laugh in one of the earlier cutscenes.

My favorite cutscenes was where Knuckles hit Sonic on the back and loses a ring or two.
The character design is different, and most people don't accept changes.
I like the designs except for Knuckles. That just looks ridiculous, he has no neck and just looks like some beefed up steroid head with no brain cells. Also it's just weird that they all have similar body types except for him.
This game clearly was not optimized. How can we have a smooth 60fps 1080p in something as chaotic as Sm4sh, and this game falls apart at the slightest push? Clearly some optimization issues at work.
So, Big Red Button was making a game and was showing it around to various studios.
And Sega said, "we like it, put Sonic in it."
But then later Sega said, "By the way, we know you were designing this for PC with the CryEngine, but this is a Wii U exclusive now." Since CryEngine isn't optimized for Wii U, and they were previously told they'd have a lot more power to work with, Sega basically fucked them over by forcing this game into their 3 game deal with Nintendo.
So, that's the main reason behind the technical issues.

I love how you guys are always trying to improve. I used to be a supporter on Patreon but had to stop due to a change in finance but I feel so good about supporting this channel. Keep doing great things and I can really see this channel growing into something bigger. Maybe a show on tv.

Rob D. Idk man, I found it kinda dissapointing and frustrating.
I am the only one on Earth that thinks that but I actually like Sonic Boom Rise Of Lyric. I love how funny the game is and the fact that the character talk with each other in the level. I also really love how glitchy the game is because it adds an extra power/objective to the game. When I played the game for the first time, I skipped two levels of the game including the one that features time travel by spamming spindash attacks with Sonic on a locked door and I somehow glitched through it and got the level behind it. It made my second time going through the game incredibly fun as I actually discovered what I had missed my first time playing Sonic Boom. I actually really like the new designs for the character especially chunky Knuckles because he is just so funny looking but also much better proportionated. The multiplayer was just so good as I had a blast going through the game with my little brother and the four character thing reminded me of Super Mario 3D World. The new whip attack was so fun and intuitive to use and the speed segments were a lot of fun too. The hub area was funny to mess around in and I just really enjoyed the game overall which is really surprising to me as I am not that much of Sonic fan normally.

The sonic design isn’t bad in my eyes. It’s honestly like an Adult sonic, with modern sonic being him as a teen and classic being a kid. The wrappings on his shoes from them being worn, being a prick because he’s just gotten depressed over the years.
If it weren't for those weird tiny quills, I would be completely fine with this design. But as it is, it's definitely not my favorite.

Ocsttiac I agree with you about the FE1 part, but what's wrong with the 3ds games? I grew up playing the game boy and GameCube fire emblem games and I think that awakening is my favorite of all of them.

If we're talking about Sonic games that are decent to great, There's obviously the original 3 games plus S&K as well as Sonic CD and MAYBE Knuckles Chaotix. Maybe.. As for Game Gear games there's Triple Trouble and Tail's Adventure (not Skypatrol) though there are some who don't like that one.
Pretty much all 3 Sonic Advance titles are great though SA2 is probably the worst of the 3 I find. There's also Sonic Rush. Speaking of, what's the general opinion of Sonic Rush Adventure? I hear the actual levels are good but everything else is bleh. Lastly there's Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 plus Heroes, which can be terrible or good depending on how much you are willing to embrace the jank. I don't think I'm missing anything else?

There's actually a good explanation for the gameplay. Big Red Button had 3 gameplay engines designed for specific consoles. One for PS3/Xbox 360, one for PS4/Xbox ONE, and one for Wii U. Apparently, Big Red Button used the wrong engine (PS4/Xbox ONE engine) and realized it too late with the Wii U version that was released. This is one of the two reasons why the gameplay and graphics are so awful is that they used a more powerful engine on a weaker system.
