  • This battle report started, as many things do, with my son mouthing off about how great Lego Minecraft is. Since I can't just let things go, I had to bring up that most of those models were already represented by Warhammer miniatures, which were clearly superior in every way.
So one thing led to another, and eventually we settled on this challenge: His Lego Minecraft minifigs versus my Warhammer models in a game of Warhammer Skirmish from the old sixth edition ruleset. Specifically, we are using the classic "Bring Out Your Dead" scenario, which uses models that can easily be substituted with Lego Minecraft mobs.
This battle sees two rival wizards, a Warhammer Necromancer and a Lego Minecraft Witch, face off in a spooky graveyard to see who has greater control of the forces on undeath. They will attempt to summon Zombie minions in an attempt to overwhelm their opponent.
So watch us decide who has the superior collection of little toy monsters. And leave a comment below if you have any questions, observations or concerns. By your silence I will assume all of this seems like a perfectly normal way to spend an afternoon.
As Will Arnett would say, "Get your brick on!"

Two expensive hobbies, clashing on the battlefield.

No kidding. I have an extensive Warhammer collection going back decades, and I thought I had some valuable models. But they don’t hold a candle to some of the random Star Wars Lego sets I picked up in the 90s.

Oh, baby zombies, they are infamous killers...

Especially for someone as bad at Minecraft combat as me.

Bring out your dead is my favourite scenario, I'll have to show my son this

Very cool. I’m a little jealous of someone who has played enough Skirmish to have a list of favorites.

I thought that this was great, especially how you lured your son into playing by comparing his Minecraft Legos vs your warhammer zombies. I might be taking mental notes for how to get a game in with _my_ son.....

Thanks. The trick wasn’t really challenging him to a game, it was convincing him to use these rules as opposed to the ones in his head.

Great game, reminds me of all the impromptu bash em up games I had with the grandson. We used Zomblings at first, made rules up for them. Then migrated to Warhammer when he got older. He got me into 40k.

I had to look up Zomlings. Those are adorable and it sounds like games with those would be a lot of fun. It’s great that you and your grandson play these games, and that he got you to play 40k. Maybe I should learn a game my kids like. But that’s Pokémon. Maybe if they make a Pokémon miniature game…

@@dmgashbad4908 We had rules for flyers, poisonous ones, champions & leaders. One dice each, opposing rolls, flyers & poisoned got +1. Champions got 2 rolls and leaders got 3. Then I weaned him onto Heroquest, Warhammer Quest, Space Crusade, Space Hulk and Warhammer. He didn't need much coaxing.

Hilarious game! Loved it. I'm a bit surprised you didn't just house rule that Zombies don't get stunned. Since it would have impacted you both equally no one gets an advantage and it just makes a lot of sense. I have a sense that you particularly like to use Rules as Written, do you think that's the case? Awesome work as always, and I think this demands a rematch!

Thanks. Yeah, by default I try to play things as close to the rules as possible. I do use the Mordheim rules for attacking knocked down models, though. In both cases, I think it speeds the game up and makes things die quicker, which is also what I like.
