LIVE: JHS Pedals Amps In A Box
Vložit
- čas přidán 11. 08. 2020
- On today's live, I talk about JHS pedals that are amp-in-a-box style overdrive/distortions. They do ampy in a box type stuff... is ampy a word? Whatever, just watch and you'll hear for yourself.
Sorry about the audio guys! The microphone on Josh's laptop was on by accident.

This should be in the description, or as a "pinned" comment at the top of the thread.
Good job man.
I was about to do the same, so thanks.
Quality work. Thank you
Sovtek in a box?
Mr JHS, please?
acorn amps make one
We definitely need a "Loud is More Good" amp in a box ! :D
This has been the most informative episode of the JHS Show I have yet seen. Thank you.
I don't know if I missed it, but my all time favorite pedal company, Danelectro, was founded in 1947!!! :) Josh either way I love your pedals and gear too and your show is the main show of any type I watch almost religiously! You've taught me sooo much and I hope you keep rocking always bro!!
Would love to see an episode covering "Tube amp pedals". I mean pedals with tubes in `em. Are they all hype or not. Would be interested in your take on these and get some knowledge on the subject. Great show as usual guys. Thanks for the education.
Sameeee!
Yeah that would be a good one.
They finally did that if you haven't seen it. It's called so.ething like are tube amp pedals a gimmick
@@trevorscan Thx for the heads up mate, Ill take a look :)
I have the JHS PG14 pedal. It's way cool. The video that Josh made with Paul Gilbert posted by Sweetwater sold me on it. Also, the video is hilarious. There's great chemistry between Josh and Paul. They're both funny guys.
Every time Josh says "Amp in a box" I want to hear the "he has the box" sting played, with a re-worded version!
Congrats to the winners!!! Still hankering (hankering? really?) for a PG-14, but I just bought an iMac, so it will have to wait. Every time I hear it, I can imagine ways I could use it in recording! Awesome! And nice explanation of the evolution of the Charlies, et al.
Love the info on the Charlie Brown. Also love the random Atari cartridge. Another great video!
I agree about Brian Wampler, my drive pedals are mostly Wampler pedals. I use a Euphoria into a Plexi drive deluxe and then into a Tumnus deluxe as my gain stages into a clean ‘65 Fender Princeton Reverb RI. The only other pedal that I use is a EQD Plumes as my clean boost. I’d recommend Wampler pedals to anyone, well worth the money.
From my viewing angle, I thought those were old sailing ship masts in the background on Glarry skull guitar. thanks for the show and explanation of your pedals!
I've been researching and checking out pedals for 6 months now. Every time I look at Gain/Distortion/Overdrive pedals, I always come back to JHS. It actually kind of makes me angry, because I have to put 2 kids through college and I'd spend $1000 easy on your pedals. Thanks for this. REQUEST: Could you do a better overview of the Emperor? Like to see more on the Vibrato...
Tell me about it..the PG-14 is my latest guilty pleasure but the pleasure far outweighs the guilt. Especially between a blues driver and an 808
There is not a pedal ever made that Josh doesn't think is, "awesome!".
When you think about it... all these tiny devices are pretty awesome. They are probably not meant for me or you, we might not like 'em at all... but in the end they are awesome little devices that shape and tone the signal. Ans someone created it, made it available for others. What's not awesome in that?
There's enough negativity online already. You have to be a diligent watcher to catch the few quick "not a fan of it" type comments.
I mean... He isn't wrong 🤷😁✌️
The Wampler Catapulp is discontinued. I emailed them about a month ago. Found one used on Reverb. Love it!
I bought my Angry Charlie V3 because of Ola England
You mean Ola Sweden, surely ?
(Or Ola Englund...)
Makes so much sense re the Boost on the @. I often use just the boost on a sound just to get a little more. I also definitely need to try the EQ cranked with the Air real low. Thanks for that Josh.
Really enjoying the Catalin SFT; the Stones mode is beautifully subtle and articulate, and I use this almost exclusively, always on, @ the end of my Drive section. The Stoner mode brings output up almost double, and will blow out to full on fuzz quickly, - choose the voltage, 9~18, to suit your rig.
Was also pleasantly suprised by the Walrus 385, - from solid clean, to kicking transistor Fuzz.
These have replaced the Supro Drive, which, in turn, replaced a Superbolt. The Superbolt is solid, and I used it for years, but for THAT sound, I liked the Supro transformer, - combine that with the Boost, and it is hugely sweet.
The Twin 12 is a favourite, and is occasionally swapped out with the 385; in my opinion, that whole line of Catalinbread "amp in a box", are unbeatable, - the RAH, Formula 55, DLS, WIIO, SFT, - crazy good. You live and learn, but I had to go through A LOT of pedals before I arrived there; the EQD Plumes bounced all the other D& D's that aren't Fuzz; good stuff.
Never occurred to me until today how this makes me think of going to a church with mad A/V skills and waiting for the service to begin. All that's missing is the countdown clock!
I'm a tube amp drive person, but these pedals are actually very good! Made me want to buy some
The JC120 pedal sounds like a great idea. Also a Ibanez AD202 rack unit for studio use. BBD delay, flanger, chorus, vibrato in one box.
Josh, I have the bolt and Twin 12. So I believe I heard you say put these pedals before reverb and modulation? Thank you for the video!
I’ve always wanted an Angry Charlie and this just intensified my desire to find one.
That Strat sounds amazing !
Eric Johnson plays with delay in front of distortion always. And it sounds amazing.
Did we ever get that “Heavy Metal” pedal? Was it the Pack Rat? Or is it something else yet to be released?
Great show! Thanks
Hello Josh, love your pedals dude!
Favorite Wampler Episode!!
Also, realized the Charlie “Brown” sound before you mentioned it- and I love it!... but funny how it becomes the Angry Charlie, and (brown) is dropped.
Love Kmd episode, that distortion scarlatta red.
8:56 the leaves were terrified off the trees during the mass skull removal and cleaning.
Could have been any season but it looks eerily similar to the season of the witch Muhahaha.
Soooooooooo excited for the 🤘🏽 METAAAAAL pedal 🤘🏽
The Sundragon amp is your answer to what was used on Stairway and Led Zep 1. It's a modified Coronado
The AT pedal is awesome. I had a black one. I played a few shows with Danger Danger back in the day (showing my age).
According to Dunlop the germanium are a slightly mismatched pair transistors...but the Fulltoner are perfect matched pair. What's the difference? and most important the original is matched or mismatched? Thanks!!!
Amp in a box so i can plug it right into the line? Need i cab sim? or it just overdrive/distortion?
What drum machine do you use for the intro music in this video?
@Josh can we use a pedal in a box device as a preamp and use it directly into the Power Amp of an amp or combo?
What’s the difference between a plexi and a blues breaker and a brown sound? That would be an awesome part two to the bluesbreaker video
Does the Charlie Brown stack well with the Angry Charlie?
Ok now you got me with the "just try stuff" shirt, now it's time to order JHS merch. I just need to ask friends if they want to order something aswell. Be prepared to send stuff to europe!
*Be prepared to send stuff* that's another T-Shirt
Woke up to this being just finished 😭
Got home from work 15 minutes after this ended.
Me too!
It's a week later and I'm watching it. 🤷♂️
Which knuckle do you tap to get a dotted 8th delay
Awesome episode
I love the Charlie Brown pedal. It’s on my bucket list.
"You muted all the stuff right"
"Yeah were good... Oh Hahaha!" - End
Are these pedals that I can use at the end of my effects chain? In the same way you'd use a Walrus ACS1 for example
great show, i'm going to get the Pg pedal.
Josh, were you meassured evening or morning? Im 6'4" in morning and 6'3" in the evening ... I was told, that the spine can compress thru day on tall people ...
That skull themed blue guitar is reminiscent of pinball graphics from the late 70's. Specifically, Corpse Revenge and Skull Island. 👍
Thank you herd the Timmons and had to have one.
Can I use angry charlie as a preamp if a will put it in the effect loop of my amp?
Producer without headphones .. stellar audio incoming!
Isn' t the Roland JC the same chorus as Boss CE-1/ Boss CE-2w?
with amps in a box... does it make sense to run them with a very clean faithful to the guitar amp? and what kind of amp is that?
I have a marshall dsl1 ...if the eq is useless where should I set the dials to effectively be at a flat signal that i can then effectively EQ externally with something like this. 12 o'clock across all 3? That's normally where I start.
Brown Sound In A Box version 2 (BSIAB2) is an excellent distortion pedal designed by Ed Guidry. Based on the AMZ MiniBooster cascading work done by Jack Orman and further refined by Aron Nelson and Doug Hammond.
why is that knob on the top right of the angry charlie not turned all the way to the right??
in 80's there was distortion pedal named "Stack in the box", by Washburn, so some one else did the pedal and Washbur put their name in it, Pedal was made in japan.
that was the first pedal that claimed to emulate Marshall in a pedal that i remember.
Josh where did you obtain your Rubic Cube shirt???
Not going to lie, I was thinking about a JC-120 in a box this morning... and then I watched this video. I mean... why hasn't someone done this yet?
The first company to release a faithful Tom Scholz Rockman pedal with the two cleans, two crunches, chorus, and delay will get my money. Now THAT is the classic ‘80s studio sound.
That would be an awesome pedal ,
I met Tom at a NAMM show years ago . He's a really cool guy !
richard mcclain I’m so jealous! I need to make a video with my Rockman and tell him how grateful I am for his contributions to guitar and rock in general! He’s amazing!
Hey I watched this a while back and I am too lazy to watch it all again so I'm just going to ask here:
Is there a simple way to understand the difference between an amp in a box and an OD pedal based on an amp.
Charly Brown - amp in a box right? Marshall style?
Morning Glory - based on a Blues Breaker amp/pedal?
Maybe it's about the controls on the amp-in-a-box more directly mirroring that available on the amp, like the EQs?
Or not that at all?
If anyone can clarify I'd love to know, thanks :)
I am habing trouble pulling good high gain tone out of my peavy valve king 50 watt 112 . any tips or info? Its all I could afford . also what do you think of boss katana
Clean channel ....angry charlie.
Toally just sang the he has the BOX jingle when I saw the title of this vid.
That skull theme strat is badass !!!!
Love the skull Strat.
Could you do a twin 66, the "Michael Jordan/Josh Scott signature pedal that is a keyboard imitator so you can play the bulls intro on guitar?
If you have a equalizer you can create a “Dumble” style tone by arching the mids like a bell.
No 3 point lightning bolt Super Bolt
TPS did that with a GE-7 & a BD-2
Matt Gilbert what episode?
@@kevintatagiba9281 I can't recall. Old one
@@kevintatagiba9281 I theenk it was Are You Dumble? They got real close to the ODS tone, with the BD and EQ, but whiffed on the Steel String Singer. They didn't test some of the cheaper "Dumble"esque pedals, but it's well worth a looksee. czcams.com/video/pUVx-t1jeE0/video.html
What's the difference between a preamp pedal and an amp-in-a-box pedals?
Man I really want to see a rerelease of the twin twelve! I am kicking myself for not getting one before they were discontinued. I keep a fairly regular watch on the used market at all the usual re-sale places for them but they are usually priced between $350-$400 in the rare instance where you do find one.
Same here. I had that Silvertone amp when I was in high school-- I'll probably never have it back.
Will you mix them with another overdrive?
I've literally owned the AT for a couple years now and never knew the boost side was an 808... *mind blown*
Dang it Josh! You got me. Ordered a PG-14 after this live cast.
I could listen to your standby music in the beginning on loop for hours. Who wrote that?
What versions are all these pedals please?
How have you not made a Mig 50 in a box?
I need to pick up the twin 12. I bought a silvertone 1484 at a Goodwill for $12.99 it is in literally unplayed condition.
The Charlie Brown at any range of overdrive into the EHX Big Muff Germanium 4 (itself a more overdrive pedal than a Big Muff) slightly overdriven to add that germanium sparkle to the top is currently my favorite stack. I do really like the EQ range on the Charlie Brown, which is already a bit treble boosted by a Microamp+. I run that into my 68 Custom Princeton and AC15 with some of the highs rolled off is just amazing. You could call the Charlie Brown the 45 after the JTM-45 and use a 7" with the big hole as the icon. I guess then people might buy it thinking it was a vinyl style chorus like the Chase Bliss Warped Vinyl?
I'm on board for the "Favorite Wampler Pedals" episode!
menatone was the first one i remember with tbiab, top boost in a box. are they still around?
I was looking at various tbiab pedals a couple months ago, and yes, Menatone was still making theirs.
@@tpherndon i thought if i bought one i could have a top boost in a box in a box. that's reason enough to have one.
I REALLY miss this show, this format.
I know, things change, people move on, but dang I really miss it.
Supervolt V1>Supervolt V2.
I have both and run them for different things, but V2 just doesn't have the chiming/ringing headroom of V1...
Holy shit, I didn’t know the boost on the @+ was an 808. Nice.
Yes sir WampleR!! Plug and play
i loved the lick
I wasn't planning on getting a Charlie Brown, but I just got a Timmy, and I love stacking. Got the AT on the way, who even knows?
Is there a chance of JHS creating a modified Rat type pedal? Would you consider a Muffuletta type Rat pedal?
AC30 in a box?
Hi Josh, love your your show & quirky sense of humour but I refuse to be silenced by being called a phone!
Darn it!!! Missed it by That much! 😞
Intro: me entering the labyrinth in slomo -w ith the hopes of finding the goblin king. Oooh a japanese worm!
This is unrelated to this video, but you guys should put out a video regularly that says all the pedals you’re currently making and a separate one for cancelled pedals.
I wish I had this for each brand. I don’t know what I don’t know _about_ and would love to find something new to purchase.
Anyone know who did the intro tune? Is that Josh?
What is the difference in 'amp in a box' pedals and 'preamp' pedals?
Really cool one today
I really thought I was the first one with the right answer with a good amount of seconds before all the comments started showing up but servers I guess :(
Also think a disclaimer before the giveaway would be a good idea since I saw a lot of people confused about the same thing I was
*At the end of livestream*
Josh: You muted all the...
Adison: Yeah, we're good.....oh
priceless xD
Man the Supervolt sure has a Ty Tabor thing to it. Must have.
Never heard the AT before. 😍!
Silence you phone! Naughty phone.
Can we do the giveaway again? I missed the live show... =,(
You got your naming conventions but I would imagine something called Charlie Brown would be more like a Wah pedal that sounds like the adults.
The Angry Charlie sounded exactly like Tom Morello when you first turned it on.
